Blackwall Hitch - Rehoboth Ratings and Reviews
The shrimp and grits entree with andouille sausage had awesome ingredients but was a bit too spicy, and I’m not a ninny about spiciness. My daughter really enjoyed her scallop dish and felt it was cooked to perfection. The pineapple skillet cake for dessert was very good and totally shareable.
The ambience in the restaurant was extremely nice with a definite big city flair. There was also a wonderful soundtrack playing.
Have enjoyed drinks and fish tacos at the bar on a few visits to Rehoboth. Made reservation for Valentine's Day. Menu looked good. Unfortunately, the grouper was cold for some and perfect for others. Found out later from our friends that it was cold. Our waiter/server was excellent!
Blackwall is doing everything right - great food, fun bartender, excellent service and an amazing host Issac made our evening extra special with his attentive service. I had the biggest pork osso bucco I've ever seen, cooked to perfection - and hubby enjoyed the mahi mahi tacos - we cannot wait to go back !!!
Delicious! I love a good brunch buffet where I’m filled but not full. Blackwall Hitch delivered.
The only down side was the service. Sure, you don’t need to be quite so attentive when it’s a buffet but it would be nice to check on drink refills at a minimum. I didn’t get my second drink until dessert! And I felt bad for the guy who was cooking the made-to-order omelets, waffles, and carving beef. I know it’s off season but he’s just one person! Thank goodness Zach was there to do some of the running. There were few desserts left when I went for mine around 1pm but I found something to end on a sweet note.
In spite of some bumps, I’ll definitely be back!
We are pleasantly surprised to see the new menu at Blackwell hitch for the winter. We had there version of jambalaya and the short ribs. Both were excellent on a cold January night. Our waiter was attentive and very knowledgeable of the dishes. As we were getting ready to leave he gave us a coupon for a free brunch the next day (Sunday)!
We were there for NYE dinner and were sorely disappointed. Our server was not very good and very perfunctory in her service and attention and we got the feeling that she was not very experienced working in such an establishment. We were looking forward to a nice, cozy dinner, but there was just something about this place that didn't quite make the impression we were hoping it would. The host staff was cordial; bartenders didn't seem like they gived a crap. It is NYE for goodness sake! Our server was nice but really very awkward. She also didn't take the time to explain anything about the dishes, didn't provide us with bread and just lacked any warmth. For $100 a pop, we expected much more. We had server envy, as the server working the other tables next to ours seemed awesome.
On to the food.....again, for $100 a pop it was just average and certainly not worth the price we paid. We were pretty disappointed in the food. The cream of crab soup was standard fare; a little too salty. The salad was small and the surf and turf was just okay; I could have made better. We will likely not be back as we were pretty unimpressed overall - but again, probably because of the price tag attached for such an unremarkable meal.
I have eaten at Blackwall Hitch a number of times and I went for New Years Eve. It was a set menu which I wasn't aware of and did not see it stated on their website and I might have missed it and I understand many restaurants do this on peak days like this. The one thing I found very annoying was the loud music they were playing during our meal. It was not appropriate dining music and it was extremely loud. At one point it was Jimmy Hendrix which maybe okay another other time but not loud when I am dining. Maybe we were by a speaker but we had a hard time talking over the music. I said something to the waitress who admitted it seemed very loud but no one turned it down. I found that annoying the whole meal and can't say I really enjoyed it especially for the price. The other times I have been there were great and we never ran into this before.
On the evening prior to New Year's Eve, the heat was not functioning in the restaurant and it was cold, nearly unbearable. I had made a reservation and would have expected them to contact me if there was such problem during one of the coldest evenings of the year. Everyone was trying to pretend like it was normal and nothing was amiss...there was no offer of a warm drink, complimentary glass of wine...we should have left. As we did at the end of our meal, two women actually had their hats and scarves on in the restaurant. Additionally, there was flooding in the bathrooms...just not the way I would expect a restaurant to manage a situation if they want return clients.
We had dinner here yesterday (Saturday) nite and enjoyed the food, service and ambience. The only knock was that they didn't turn up the heat, it was cold inside the restaurant and many of the female patrons kept their jackets on from my glance around. I made the comment to our server (wearing only a polo shirt, but many other servers/hostesses were wearing fleeces) and he said he would look into it. But we never heard back and the restaurant was still cold when we finished. Our Crispy Calamari appy was very good and we enjoyed our Pork Osso Bucos (pork shank with fettuccini pasta, big portions). We added a side of Seasonal Veggies and bottle of Chianti ($30) to go with dinner. The Pineapple Upside down cake was delicious $113 before gratuity. We were a bit apprehensive before going in after reading some of the previous reviews about portion size and cost....from our experience, it appears that Management has listened and addressed the previous negative press. Some wines by the glass were still $12/glass, but our Chianti Bronfi at $30/bottle was a great deal. Free parking along the strip now that it is off-season. We'd definitely come back!
Blackwall Hitch continues to be great each time we go. The staff is friendly, with consistent but not overwhelming attention and it feels like they really care to get to know us and ensure we enjoy our meals. Food has all been excellent, including the buffet when we came for that, which I imagine is hard to keep fresh. Thank you!
Had a very nice Christmas Eve dinner at Blackwall Hitch in Rehoboth Beach. The food was well prepared, was served at proper temperatures and the ambience was great. The service was outstanding. We had an excellent waitress - she was patient with us and helped us make our dining decisions. We have eaten at this restaurant a couple of times before. This was our best experience. The prices tend to be a little on the high side for the average, but the venue is on par with pricing at the more expensive restaurants in town. We plan to go back.
Blackwells is a beautiful restaurant. The decor is very nice. Our waitress was very good. The menu offers light fare to the more filling entrees. My husband and I both ordered the short rib sandwich. He loved it and was delighted. I liked it but thought it was little fatty. With that being said I would recommend Blackwells.
We ordered four meals and two of them were simply awful. My wife and sister in law never ever return meals but one ordered branzino and the other ordered steak frites and they were inedible. The steak tasted like dishwater. The fish was oily and sour. To make matters worse, as soon as the meals were returned the waitress basically gave up on us. She never apologized. In lieu of the 2 meals we ordered cheesecake they brought one small piece. This is the first bad review I have ever written. It is deserved.
Not a good value compared to the other restaurants in the area. Scallops entree had no vegetable — just risotto with butter oozing from it. Really?? Not very appealing. Monochromatic. Tasted good, but poorly presented. For $30 per plate, we expect more.
Had Sun brunch with family members, very nice selection of foods, fresh omelets and waffles, good salads and carved meats as well as desserts. We liked the music and setting. Service was slow getting coffee and refills and clearing plates and no smiles. A bit pricey at $28 per, but all brunches are these days.
We went for Thanksgiving dinner, just the 2 of us. They made crowds of people wait at the door when numerous tables were available. We were 20 min early summer we had to leave and come back for our seating. Not only that... our oysters were frozen when we are them.
Not really anything was great.
