Everything about this cocktail bar is designed to create a great ambiance for good conversations with your guests. But, I guess the place is too popular because the tables for two are tightly packed side to side. I had a reservation but I felt like they were doing me a favor to give me a table for two crowded between two other similar tables. We might as well have been a party of six for how close we were. Dark fancy bars with $18 drinks should do better than that.
Wonderful absolutely wonderful service and quality of our drinks and appetizers
Went to Blacktail last Saturday night. Food was amazing, small plates . Service was really, really slow and it didn't look overly busy. Drinks, overpriced and not worth the money. I understand the bar area being a cuban theme, what I don't understand is not having a view of the beautiful harbor and especially the statue of Liberty in the actual restaurant area. Seems like kind of a waste.
Would I go back, probably not. Would I recommend them to a friend? No
Hidden gem in Battery Park. Amazing views and a HUGE bar downstairs. The Cuban theme 1920s is great and the drinks were delicious. The drink book gives a great history. The cauliflower was over the top and the steak tartare was good. Small plates to enjoy.
This was a great place to go on a date night that was intended to be both fun and romantic. While the room is a bit noisy with music playing, it was still fun and appropriately themed. The drinks were all fantastic and creative, and the food was done very well. All that said, the drinks are on the pricey side of craft cocktails, and the food was not consistently at any great value. Without any windows to the outside, it did help the allusion of being at a Cuban-themed speakeasy, but the location and premises do not really beg for a return experience.
Great drinks and very attentive server! Loved the live music too. I’d recommend making a reservation - it can get really busy
Best cocktails in the city
The bar was placed in a very scenic location, making it ideal for the style of bar. The cocktails were of amazing quality, as too the ambience. Did not dine in, but was happy to sit through a few rounds of cocktails.
Amazing cocktails, great location, awesome atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Absolutely delicious! Frisée salad, empanadas, prawns, mushroom cavatelli, hamburger and tres leeches were all outstanding! Can’t wait to return on our next trip to the city!
Visiting NYC after living here for years. Went to see the band which was awesome. Loved Blacktail!
Blacktail is one of my favorite cocktails bars in NYC. We're known for great cocktail bars in NYC but this place has the best customer service and an extensive amount of yummy drinks. Food is good but it's the service that is amazing.
I loved it hear! Cool vibes. AMAZING COCKTAILS. Good music.
Great atmosphere, great service, wonderful location.
Amazing drinks and staff. I would like to highlight Christopher and Ally for providing a great experience.
Very, very interesting drinks combined with tapas like food makes this battery place restaurant a great choice for the area
Incredible service and the coolest atmosphere. Would absolutely recommend to anyone.
Excellent cocktails and amazing service. Great night!
Incredible cocktails and original menus. A little Havana in Battery park. Highly recommend, especially with friends.
Crying babies in a cocktail bar?!?
This is an outstanding bar. I highly recommend it. The staff is exceptional. The atmosphere is great. I look forward to my next visit.
BlackTail is easily one of the best bars in NYC. Consistently exceptional service and cocktails to match. The food is an added bonus and always complements the drinks perfectly.
Great impressive place in the tip of the island, close to several financial institutions which makes this a great place to go out after work. Alcohol is great, service as well, the vibe is awesome. On the more pricy side but hey, it’s NY.
We went for Easter. We had 500 pm reservations but we couldn’t walk into the restaurant. We waited about 15 minutes before we were seated in a mostly empty space. I dislike being forced to stand on a line in the outside to create the illusion of exclusivity.
We liked the drinks but we wished there was a regular hamburger and French fries on the menu.
The cocktails are superb. Varied, well balanced, interesting. The staff was terrific overall, worked well as a team, and impressively our waiter had mastered the details of the whole list.
The food was fine, more diverse certainly than what you would find in a typical bar, but didn't rise to the level of the drinks. Think of it as enabling everyone to try more of the liquid concoctions on offer.
Best cocktail bar in NYC, especially if you like your drinks strong, flavorful and served quickly.
Blacktail is a unique upscale Cuban themed restaurant upstairs from Pier A. Very lively on most nights. Professional friendly staff. Unbeatable atmosphere for a Battery Park/downtown location. You will definitely need a reservation to be sure you get in unless you are very early or very late evening or don't mind waiting 30 min. Not a large party table place. Dark lighting in a nice way. Seems to be a popular 1st date spot although speaking may be difficult, one because its quite lively and two because most tables are fairly close to each other and you are basically sharing your conversation. However, there are some uniquely placed tables, if you want verbal but not visual privacy. The nights with live jazz are quite a treat. I go often with my wife and son, although he is usually the only kid in the place!
Everything starded very good with a little drink "on the house" But after that the waiter started to stress us to order the food. We ordered two wiskey sour and wanted to sweeten and chew for a while . But he came back over and over again and chatted for food order. Then we got tired and ordered. The waiter soon tried to remove our plates even though we had food left.We didnt ask for the bill before he came up whit it whitout asking if we wantad something more to eat and drink. So the cosy dinner we looked forward to was over in 45 minutes.Felt like the staff wanted to get rid of us as soon as possible. Therefore Black Tail was not a good experience for us.
Went for my brothers birthday and the service was great!
Amazing dinner. Each of the plates and entrees ordered were delicious. The desserts of which we ordered all three were the icing on the cake. 5 stars.
Really enjoyed having drinks at BlackTail. Great ambience and enjoyed the live music. Would go back there again.
Loved the ambiance. Drinks were well crafted. Food was delicious. Would go back.
Blacktail is hands down one of the coolest spots in NYC. We have been there a few times but this time we chose to sit in the lounge area instead of the main dining room and it was great. The service was amazing. The drink menu is of course the best. I don’t know of a better cocktail menu anywhere. And the food is great. We were a party for and we just kept ordering appetizers and they were so good we were too full for dessert! Blacktail is a must. But make sure you make a reservation. Enjoy!
Favorite bar in NYC! Best ambiance and delicious cocktails
I saw someone promote this spot on YouTube so I decided to go. Thank God I did because it was an excellent experience. They were even attentive to the waters that we had. Very thorough and the food and drinks were delicious!
Would be a great date spot if I could hear anything over the music
Love Blacktail for cocktails on a splurge night out. Ordered the fancy beans, rice, and plantains, and it was SUPER boring. The other food is so-so and a bit overpriced. Stick to Cuban fries and drinks here, and eat dinner elsewhere.
Wonderful staff, food, drinks and music
This is now my hot trendy place to take NYC and out of town friends. Extremely friendly and efficient staff, great ambiance, food is amazing and the entire drink menu truly to die for. We had a fantastic time the other night.
Food was a huge miss. Not even remotely Cuban. I’m shocked because I relied so heavily on your star system, which said it was excellent. I’ll be more cautious going forward before trusting your customers’ taste opinions!
I have been wanting to come to Black Tail since the first week it opened. I was only sorry I had not come by earlier. The atmosphere is impeccable and I would not expect anything less from the staff run by the folks who own The Dead Rabbit. Incredible cocktails and the food was truly wonderful. Only noticed the limes were not juicy but hardly a hindrance to a wonderful evening.
