Once you're inside the restaurant, all is good. Driving there is probably a much better experience. We walked there, and it was a little sketchy. Nothing we couldn't handle, and well worth it once we got inside and enjoyed the delicious food we ordered. Love the room. Great service. Thanks!
A little pricey, but overall would give it another go. Food was excellent as was dessert!
Our server was amazing. She recommended the short rib gnocchi, the house favorite, and hands down it was the best meal. We ordered the peach salad as a starter and that was delicious as well. Loved the ambience and there was a parking lot right across the street from the restaurant. $10 before 7pm. Easy to get to, excellent service, knowledgable server, great experience. I'll be back!
Everyone was so attentive and everything we ordered was so good!
Delightful evening and a lovely general manager!
Needed to grab a quick bite before an event at The Los Angeles Theater Center. This was perfect. Great and filling salads. Service was very friendly and efficient; stopped back after for dessert and coffee. Service couldn't have been nicer. Will definitely be back.
Perfect DTLA restaurant for no frills casual deliciousness. Try the pasta, it was so so good. As a matter fact, just try everything. It was all great.
Food was great. Not sure why the need to guarantee reservations 72 hours in advance for $25 a head. Was not that busy. But food was excellent.
The food was delicious, however the fettuccini dish was a tad too salty. The drinks were inventive, creative and tasty!
The service was impeccable, I would say almost too quick to bring out our dishes. Overall, I would recommend Blacksmiths.
Food, drinks, service, everything was great! I can’t remember my waiter’s name at the moment, but he was great and added to the experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone and would come again!
Nice ambiance, very overpriced in a very sketchy part of DTLA.
Very disappointing. I had visited Blacksmith's a year ago and loved it. Now it's a trendy, overpriced restaurant with mediocre food and nice servers who don't know anything about food or wine. The actual dinner menu is very different from what is reflected online. They no longer offer octopus or squid and should update their online site to reflect this. The Mussels & Clams was a dish with mostly tomatoes (campari and regular sized) and a few clams an mussels. It should more appropriately be called a tomato salad. The Braised Short Rib was tender, but not flavorful and also a very small portion- looked smaller than a year ago. I ordered a glass of wine and left a small, tasting amount for my friend because he was getting a cold so shouldn't sip from my glass. We called our server to fix a wobbly table, and before we could say anything he grabbed the carafe that had only a drop of wine in it and poured that drop into my full glass, so that I could no longer drink my wine because he inadvertently spread the cold germs into my glass. I know this was an accident, and the servers were nice. But when we asked about food or drink suggestions he didn't know much at all. The restaurant is too expensive for mediocre servers with smiles but zero knowledge about food. At the end, we were still very hungry and ended up having street tacos later that night. The restaurant is posh and trendy, but the food is so so and too expensive for the miniscule and bland tasting portions.
Don't let the neighborhood or the exterior of the building get in the way of experiencing this hidden gem of a restaurant. Food, drinks, service all exceptional. Parking lot right next store. We went early before a performance at the Ahmanson and it is only a few blacks away--too far to walk comfortably but an easy drive. They open at exactly 5:00 p.m. which leaves plenty of time to enjoy your meal and still make a 7:30 p.m. showtime. It's been around for over 2 years but they aren't actively promoting the restaurant so you can easily book a table. We were pleasantly surprised to fine a place with this high quality food and drink that isn't crazy busy. Enjoy!
I made reservations here for my best friend's birthday dinner because I love their food and have had a great experience every time. This time exceeded all my other amazing experiences by far! The waitress, Rachel, was incredibly sweet and the chef spoiled us with the most amazing surprise dishes. All the staff was so friendly. Love this place!
Staff was friendly and food well prepared, delivered in a timely manner
Asked for a medium well steak got a rare steak. Asked them can the cook it a little longer they brought me back a steak that was smaller then my first one. $45 plate and they get it wrong and bring me back a smaller steak. Very disappointed. Brought the peppers $14 plate and only came with 3 peppers. The pasta was good but that was it.
Service was great. Food was delicious. Drinks were tasty and loaded.
Great menu, and the food is good. However, the ambiance was a bit off - some lights were not working, air conditioning wasn't on, and they had us in a pretty dark corner due to the light issue.
The food is good. Service is great. Only complaint is...don't come here when it's hot out. They leave the doors open to the patio so the hot air comes into the restaurant. Trying to enjoy your hot meal while it's hot in the restaurant makes it a very uncomfortable experience. Unless you like to be sweating while on a date or with friends while eating, don't come here when it's HOT in downtown la.
The gnocchi was incredible and I’m still thinking about the jalapeños. Place was amazing inside and the service was great. Can’t wait to go back.
Excellent food, good service, and beautiful location.
The decor/interior space is what stands out the most at first—if I had a restaurant, this is how I'd design it. Location is spot on, too. The 16oz Ribeye with broccolini and spinach was a m a z i n g! Crab cakes were also great, though I'd have preferred them to be a little bigger. (The Bacon Truffle Mac a little toooo cheesy). All in all, I definitely will be returning to try other delicious stuff on the menu! (Oh–and the house cabernet was fantastic as well!)
The AC must have been broken the night we came. Our entire table was uncomfortable due to the heat. The service team was very nice but the food was salty and nothing special.
Great restaurant in a newly revived part of town.... A nice Gem in LA
It was amazing I love the food and the service the writers was very kind n nice I recommended
Good service with good food overall. Lovely ambiance.
Amazing meal! Everything we had was next-level great including our cocktails.
The catfish and dirty mac was very good. Also the crab cakes. The only thing I didnt like was the huge ice cube that takes over the whole drink. They also you pasta as straws
Positives: food was great! We got the crab cakes and mac and cheese as apps, short rib pasta and fried Branzino for dinner.
Opportunities for improvement: drinks were slow, wait staff was slow.
Great food and nice atmosphere.
What a terrific experience in a beautiful restaurant! Staff and food were terrific, fun and made for a wonderful evening. Highly recommend! Especially the Drunken in Love as a way to kick off the evening!
Awesome experience - great service, FABULOUS food.
Drinks are AMAZING!!!
Great place to dine for business!
The food was great but it took an hour for our entree to arrive. We saw everyone around us who arrived after us be served. We asked a few times and were told ours was next but it still was another fifteen minutes. Maybe they have no expediting system? Either way, it took away from the night. And the valet is $12.
I’ve been here a couple of times. Every dish is delicious, but the branzino — mmmmm to die for. The craft cocktails - just keep them coming!! Wait staff is gracious and accommodating.
The food is good. The drinks are well made and curated. I would enjoy small plates and craft cocktails
great unique menu. mid-size space. large sharable dishes
