Blacksmith's was great. Totally loved the location and the service was great. We went on the early side on a Tuesday night so it was pretty quiet. The cheese fritters were amazing. As for the dinner, I didn't like my meal (Fettucine) and think I picked wrong. I'd definitely go back and try something else, however.
The staff was welcoming and knowledgable. Pretty much everything is made in-house. The Brussels salad was delicious; I find myself craving it ever since. Looking forward to going back!
We loved it. It is a beautiful hidden gem in a small alleyway. Our server Alex made it the best experience and even the manager stopped by. Was not too busy for a Monday night but the menu was great and the cocktails even better.
Food was outstanding. Service was excellent. Perfect drinks.
The food was great, drinks were really good, our waiter was super nice, the service not the best.
I loved this restaurant. Went for my boyfriends Birthday. The food was great and so was the staff. The manager (blonde women) was extremely warm and friendly and Thank You for taking care of my IPhone! ^_^
Will diffinitely be back, sooner than later!!
For the price of the dishes, i would have went somewhere else. the presentation of each dish seemed a little not put together so well
Great food but just not worth the price. I mean 140$ for two people with an app and a main course is just too much....no wonder it was empty.
We were seated at a table of our preference immediately upon our arrival. Our server, Andrew, was training a new employee and made sure we were comfortable with that arrangement. He (and new employee Sarah) were very friendly and attentive. Andrew explained any food/wine questions clearly and accurately. This was all very nice. The truly remarkable part of our experience, was the food. Every dish we ordered was absolutely DELICIOUS. Our group goes out to dinner together once a month and has been doing this for two years. We all agreed that this was the tastiest meal we have shared. The physical space is nicely appointed and we were very comfortable. Of note, when we arrived at 6 pm the valet was not there. There are two parking lots close by, and street parking was available, so this wasn’t a problem for our party but I know this could be a problem for some. When we left at about 8 pm, the valet was there.
Scary neighborhood. Nice dinner, don't like bums begging at the valet. Won't be back.
I chose to celebrate my Birthday at Blacksmiths after reading positive reviews for the restaurant on yelp. We celebrated as a party of 10 during brunch on a Sunday. I made reservations and was happy with the cozy seating we were provided with. With regards to the food, my party and I were pleased with the quality of our selections from their brunch menu, but the cocktails we ordered were disappointing and lacked a balance in flavor. Overall our experience was positive; but the final billing is the reason I would never come back with a large party. Upon receiving our bill, we were informed that the restaurant would accept up to 4 credit cards for payment, which is totally fair and reasonable. What was unusual was that we were told the same payment amount would need to be made to all received credit cards. None of us had ever heard of this before! Why this needs to be is beyond our reasoning. It made paying for our meals more difficult than it should have been. People order different items, at different prices, especially with a larger group size. Why should all credit cards from our party have to be charged the same amount? This policy should be changed to the norm that is practiced amongst other restaurants. This policy is the reason I would never come back with a larger group.
Friends and I went here for dinner on a Saturday night, no special occasion. We were a group of 7. I made reservations using Open Table, which worked perfectly. We arrived early so we enjoyed cocktails at the bar while we waited for our table. The Palma Fizz was very refreshing. My friends enjoyed their drinks, as well (one had Vibe in the name and lavender and gin in the ingredients), one had Oaxaca in the name, and the others were beer and white wine. The actual restaurant is lovely and much smaller than it appears in photos. Our server was Matt (Hi, Matt!! I'm the fun one ). He was awesome, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu, and very funny. We shared 2 orders of the delicious Burrata salad and fries as an appetizer. Everyone enjoyed their entree, which included: BRAISED BONE IN SHORT RIB
butternut squash purée, red-wine shallot sauce, crispy leek; PAN ROASTED STRIPED BASS
marble potatoes, broccolini, spinach, braised bacon and corn sauce; CHICKEN SANDWICH
dill spread, heirloom tomatoes, crispy onions, avocado, sweet & sour slaw. Not sure what one other person got. Portions are large. You won't leave hungry. Service was excellent from the time we entered to the time we left. Fun music plays in the background, so it is kind of loud there but you can still have conversation at your table. Would definitely go back.
Went late, and they are serious about closing at 11:00. You will leave by 11:00. That said; they called and informed me when I made the reservation that it would be the case. My guess is because the neighborhood is still downtown, that they do it for safety reasons. All was well, good drinks and service.
Everything about Blacksmiths is great except the location.
Great atmosphere, service, food and drinks. One lacking element is the vicinity, hopefully neighborhood improves soon. That being said it should not deter you to try blacksmith’s, it’s fabulous.
NYE. Weren’t told of fixed price menu. Would have gone to other venue had we know
A few friends and I wanted to treat ourselves for new year’s eve, and boy did we luck out! The prix fix menu was delicious. The music that was playing was delightful, and the champagne put us in the party mood! I can’t wait to come back!
Food was great! Loved the ambience! I'd love to visit again.
Not recommended. Filthy bathrooms and sports bar quality food.
Great food, service, ambiance, location. Enjoyed it a lot.
The ambience was great and the food amazing. Their Bloody Mary was homemade and their wine selection good as well. The short rib was our favorite that we had. Definitely a great place for date night!
One of the most excellent experiences for dinner ever! Our waiter Matt was phenomenal and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend the Black Truffle Mac and Cheese, The Gnocchi and the Cast Iron Chocolate Chip Cookie! This is a great setting for a girls night out or a good date night!
Host was rude and had no problem rushing us to order before the kitchen closed. Made me want to leave immediately then our food came out incomplete/ undercooked ruined our first date
Disappointing. Worse than average. Food was fatty, unseasoned, and not worth the time, energy or money spent. Restaurant smelled like old fish and strong laundry detergent. Table and lighting design proved too dark to see food or menu. Go somewhere else. Definitely not fit for foodies.
ATMOSPHERE WAS OK, SORT OF SPEAKEASY. SERVERS WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND ACCOMMODATING. HOWEVER, THE FOOD WAS JUST AVERAGE, AND ALL ORDERS CAME OUT QUICKLY, TOGETHER, AND NOT VERY WARM; A SIGN IT WAS PRE-MADE AND WARMED OVER. MY PORK RIBS WERE TENDER, BUT NOT GRILLED, AND HAD SOME BLAND, OUT OF A BOTTLE BBQ SAUCE POURED OVER THEM.
GNOCCHI WITH SHORT RIBS WAS THIN TOUGH GNOCCHI AND VERY FATTY, GREASY SHORT RIBS.
LOCATED IN A VERY SKETCHY SIDE STREET. WE WERE APPROACHED BY THREE SEPARATE AND PERSISTENT PANHANDLERS WHILE WE WAITED FOR VALET TO PULL OUR CAR.
THERE ARE MUCH BETTER RESTAURANTS IN MUCH BETTER NEIGHBORHOODS. I WON'T BE BACK HERE.
Get the Black Truffle Saffron Fettuccine. Daily happy hour from 5-7 is a great deal.
Great atmosphere and spacious indoor seating! Outdoor patio is for smaller groups and pets (on-leash) are welcome! Brunch Menu offers variety of appetizers, entrees, cocktails and drinks. Food pricing ranges from $16-$24. Bloody Mary's could be bigger and pancakes are average at best. Braised short ribs were delicious but increased portions would be worth the price. Service can be slow if busy but very attentive if you know your servers name to call out to him/her! If splitting check - 4 cards max accepted. Our party was of 9 and gratuity was added to the bill. Parking is next door or short walk directly across the street. We prefer to park across the street, more spacious, organized and only $10 on weekends with no time limit.
Not a place one would accidentally drive by, but worth searching for. Great food, and wonderful service. Music is a bit too loud for casual conversation.
So just finished dinner and had a few moments to write a review. Was meeting a new colleague from work and was looking to try something new in DTLA and this place caught my eye on the search.
Easy parking and valet as well as an easy place to get to. Greeting was pleasant and helpful. Grabbed a drink at the bar whilst I waited for my guest.
Went for the Blacklist Old Fashioned - the glass was smoked over woodchips in front of me which was a nice touch and a little different as was the pecan and chocolate bitters. Stiff and well presented. Went back for a second :o)
They didn’t have the breaded Lamb chops which I spotted on the online menu and settled on the Ribeye- was a bigger dish then I had planned but boy, one of the better ribeyes I’ve had recent at half the price of others that didn’t meet the mark!
Service was attentive but not too attentive (only gripe which I have at most places is please don’t clear plates when others are still eating, drives me mad, it’s a Brit thing of mine)
I’ll be back with the wife next time.
Thanks for a good evening.
Great music and beautiful venue. Food was good and the service absolutely suburb
Blacksmiths had the perfect ambiance. We had brunch with bottomless mimosas. The food was exquisite. The bartender made the best Bloody Mary drinks.
Overall our experience was positively perfect for future visits!
Service was horrible. Several mistakes and forgot to put orders in. One persons main meal didn’t come out until 15 minutes after the rest of the parties did. Direct we’re forgot about.
The brussel salad was phenomenal.
We had 4 dishes as recommended by our server 2 were very good and 2 were just ok. Crab cake was very good but appetizer size. Mushroom ravioli was really good very nicely done. Bone marrow was flavorless. Tuna tare tare was also not good and miniscul. The service was good although since we ordered 4 dishes as recommended the large plates took up the entire table and the busboy took a while to clear table of meals we had finished. So I’may try again
Great Sangria and Happy Hour! Good neighborhood joint.
Celebrated my bday here. Would definitely come back!
Not a bad plate on our table! Everything was fantastic. Service was great. There's something here for everyone so it's a great go-to for family or out-of-town visitors. The only downside was the wait time for valet but that's easily avoidable :) My Italian husband and I couldn't believe the homemade gnocchi, it was incredible. Enjoy!
The menu wasn’t the same from the site and there were almost none vegetarian dishes
Food was good, service was lacking. Took an extremely long time to order drinks or get a waiter's attention.
I dined at Blacksmiths for my birthday dinner. The customer service by Manager was excellent.
My dinner: crab cakes, mussels and clams, grilled peach salad. I loved my dinner. Tasty, flavorful, unique.
Valet parking is a plus. Loved the music selection playing. Beautiful architecture and decor!
I hope to try this place for Brunch in future.
