Blackfish, the flagship BYOB of Chef/owner Charles "Chip" Roman, offers seafood-centered, progressive American cuisine with French influences.

Guests can enjoy a daily changing a la carte menu, as well as tasting menus ranging from five-to-seven courses.

Expected more seafood on the menu. Online menu was extensive. Menu at restaurant was very limited and not many seafood options.

Our friends 20th wedding anniversary the chefs tasting menu was amazing! Five courses became 7.... nice surprises and truly an epicurean delight. This is a true culinary experience. Thank you to Will for providing such lovely service!

We tried Blackfish for the first time and were very pleased. First off, the host seated us promptly for our 630 reservation. It is a BYOB, which is nice because my brother in law brought his favorite beer and the rest of us enjoyed wine. The menu features three courses but there is also a five course option for those with bigger appetites. Everything was deliciously prepared. The beet salad was a great starter, although one person in our party had the snails and was quite pleased. Everybody had fish. Our choices were the tuna and the dorado. Excellently flavored and cooked to perfection. Overall it was a wonderful choice and we will recommend. It should however be marked with more dollar signs on open table. Two dollar signs is not in range.

Another wonderful meal. We started with the smoked salmon with a great interplay of flavor and texture, mushroom bisque, foie gras terrine, and chocolate cavatelli with lamb ragout. All were flavorful and inventive. Entrees included a perfectly pan seared dorade with sunchoke purée, couscous and broccoli florets topped with a flavorful curry sauce poured at the table. Service was gracious...as usual

Have not been to Blackfish in a while and not sure why. Always so good, from the food to the service it is by far the best restaurant in the area and competes with a lot of Philadelphia restaurants. Love it and will be back soon.

Blackfish was a great find for a quiet ending to a very busy day. It's small, elegant and mellow. We loved our entrees: the tuna and the gnocchi. Our only suggestion is for a slighter larger menu or specials. We were a little disappointed that there were only two seafood items on the menu. I don't care for tuna and never heard of the other.

We were very excited to try Blackfish with good friends - none of us had been there before. We decided to try the tasting menu...interesting menu but small servings. For a final total of $180 per couple (included tip and we brought our own alcohol), I didn't feel that we got our money's worth, and it was very noisy and difficult to have a conversation. Staff was lovely and very attentive but we probably won't return.

Love Blackfish. The food is excellent, service excellent. Only issues I have are:
too many tables for the two rooms. You are on top of other diners basically. Unfortunately it was packed when we were there, and my seat was basically in between the kitchen path and the restaurant, so waitstaff rushing by were slightly jarring me, lol. The other issue is the food is delicious and different, but the portions are on the small side for the upscale menu.

We decided to try Blackfish since we had never eaten there before. We couldn’t have been happier with our decision. We decided to do the 5 course meal and let the chef surprise us. We loved every course! A few of us don’t eat meat so we went with the Pescatore option. The seafood was so fresh and delicious. The wait staff was extremely friendly and provided excellent service. We will definitely go back.

This was the weekly tasting menu featuring duck. The food was delicious and inventive. The foie gras was a standout. The 63 degree duck egg was very good. The breast outstanding and the dessert course was sublime. Loved the cocoa meringue and the la Colombe coffee ice cream. It was a quiet Thursday and we appreciated that! This is a favorite dining destination and BYOB is a plus.

The service & meal were both excellent. The charred beet salad appetizer was not only delicious, but presented beautifully. We all had the kabocha squash tortellini which was absolutely fabulous. The roasted skate wing was good, but the pan seared Dorade royale fish was even better. The light & lemony cheesecake with blackberries was a perfect dessert served with great coffee & cappuccino. Overall, a wonderful meal.

A great meal at BlackFish - the Sea Bass tasting menu was excellent - this restaurant stands way above it's peers . Also much appreciated the expertise of the staff - very pleasant and attentive but not obstrusive. We'll be back !

As always, very good. However, the skate wing, was over some very uninteresting, rather mealy cranberry beans.....with little taste...........the skate was excellent but needed a better accompaniment. Dessert = yummy!

We had the five course tasting menu. The palette cleanser/oyster was amazing! Several courses were above and beyond--the radish/ahi tuna appetizer was exquisite! Some were "B" grade, like the pasta dish and the dessert, but the lobster was also exceptional! We'll definitely go back, and I LOVE That it was a BYOB. I'd rather spend money on a quality meal rather than marked up wine!

Enjoyed ambience, food and service on a special evening. My wife and I had a lovely evening. Highly recommended. Our host Veronica was very knowledgable and was very proud to be part of the team and was did a great job looking after us. Decor and ambience aimple not distracting tI the initmacy. Service well paced.

Very disappointed!!!!!!

When i found this place, i was very excited based on reviews, menu options and pictures.
First surprise was when credit card was required and reservation cancellation would be $50. I assumes it’s a very popular place and Valentine’s Day, so no big deal.

They called to confirm reservation 24 hours in advance (too late to cancel without losing $50) and informed me that because it’s valentines, they serving fixed menu 4 course dinner at $95 per person. That’s a steep price for restaurant rated as $. Too late to back out now. They also i qui about dietary restrictions, which i thou was a good sign. I inform them that we don’t want any onions of garlic in our dishes and response was no problem.

Besides everything i already mentioned....

1. Host seemed moody when we arrived. Waitress wasn’t very friendly either.
2. No effort made for the occasion (they could have put a single rose on each table at the very least)
3. They started serving people who arrived after us.
4. They put vine next to my date and haven’t offered to pour it once during the night.
5. Onions and garlic were in almost every dish, when mentioned it to waitress she said: “nobody told me”. Not even sorry.
6. Waitress coughing into her hand and continues to serve tables.
7. Food was mediocre at best and tasted as if it was just defrosted. At $95 per person I was expecting something much better. Total ripoff!!!!!

We’re never going back.

Blackfish was my wife's choice for our Valentine dinner, and it was a very wise one! The set, prix fixe 4 course menu was spectacular, the presentation beautiful, the service superb and the evening delightful. Of course, this is always the case here! Recounting the menu will only make you feel bad, because these were special courses for the holiday and you missed it :) But rest assured that the regular menu is every bit as wonderful (we've had everything on it). We've been to several special Blackfish dinners, each special and each well worth attending. Go and enjoy!!

When my date and I arrived at Blackfish, I was a bit surprised how crowded it was, meaning so many tables crowded into such a tight space! But it was Saturday night and thankfully they led us to a table in the smaller of the two small dining areas where it was a tiny bit less crowded and loud. Given the amazing service and stellar food we quickly tuned out our boisterous neighbors and had a lovely evening. The waiter, Steven, was attentive without being intrusive and helpful when choosing from the perfectly sized menu (several choices but not too many). Since it's a BYO the high entree prices are more tolerable but still a bit ambitious given the neighborhood and the amount of food on the plate. However, all is forgiven when you taste the bright flavors and creative combinations of the seasonal menu. We will definitely return -- maybe for one of their themed midweek tasting menus!

I thought we would love this restaurant because it had such great reviews but it fell short in most areas.
The good: beautiful ambience, great bread, and dessert was excellent
The bad: request for no cream sauce was ignored and we had cream sauce on 2 out of 4 dishes and no one stopped back to ask so we gave up and ate them, service was over 3 hours, which is long even for a tasting menu, and all the thing she served from the tasting menu were offered a la carte anyway, which was pretty disappointing.
