Blackbird Kitchen & Cocktails Ratings and Reviews
Hidden spot, attention to detail is what I noticed here. Food is fresh, the waiter is a gentleman and has a lot of information about the dishes if you want to know more about your meal. It is a tapas restaurant, and you will wish the portions were bigger. I just savored every bite that much more. The plates while small, leave you feeling satisfied and full without the regret of stuffing your face happily. The plates are on the smaller side, and everything tastes great, things can add up rather quickly.
The Agnolotti is out of this world, please order this, I beg of you kind sirs and madams. So many flavors coming out of it bite after bite. If there is any filet mignons available jump on it, our waiter correctly recommended having it medium rare and he was spot on.
If you want a nice quiet meal, or true one on one time with a date, reserve a table between 5pm-6:30pm, as it became busy around 7pm.
-AGNOLOTTI (so good I ordered another plate) it's basically pasta stuffed with squash it's starts of salty, then flavorful and lightly spiced, then sweet...
-Special Filet Mignon (medium rare) with mashed potatoes and a red sauce that you didn't need but gladly welcomed.
-As it is a Tapas restaurant the waiter offered to have the single filet mignon prepared on two plates
-Shrimp! (6 jumbo sized, in a delicious sauce)
-Mussels (great starter to share with another diner), you'll want more bread to dip for the sauce
-Winter in Moscow cocktail (delicious, smooth and not too sweet)
-Polite waiter, and pleasant bartender
-Decor was modern but comfortable and not stiff
-There was nice reggae music playing in the background, which I loved
-1000 point reservations if you book through OpenTable
-Beware of parking on busy Merrick Rd., use side streets if you can
-I ordered cocktails during happy hour with the meal but paid full price
(the bill looked off, but I didn't realize why until later)
Absolutely loved it. I like how the bartender made a special section on Old Fashioned cocktails. I never had one before but it's my new favorite drink thanks to this place. Food was fantastic. Wife and I had 2 drinks each and 5 tapas and the bill pre-tip was only $100. Pretty good for a great meal. will be back many times.
Not one miss in our meal! We had the kale salad, tacos, pasta, poutine, grilled bread and burger. Everything was so well seasoned and delicious. The bartender John is amazing and paired our cocktails to our courses. The guy is a genius behind the bar! Exceptional night out!
This was our first time here, it was delicious. We were four people who like to eat and thought the tapas way to go would not be enough for all of us. Turned out to be perfect, we did order quite a few of the dishes to taste them all. We even had room for dessert which I would absolutely suggest the flourless chocolate cake. So good.
The Small Plates were delicious. This time around out of the five of us, 4 of us had the burger. The bun destroyed the quality of the burger. Tasteless, hard roll - I had to peel most of the bread away. The other 3 people felt the same way. It was a disappointment because I had the burger for the first time back in April and it was mouth watering delicious, so I recommended it to my brothers and husband. Also, missed the Gruyere Fries......these simple touches add a flare.
flourless chocolate cake was amazing , loved every bite of it.
wings and tacos were amazing too.
putin and octopus was okay, putin needed more cheese and gravy was not thick , it looked liked watered down.
but overall it was very good experience, will repeat 😊
WOW. that's what I thought the minute we walked in. The outside does not prepare you for how beautiful the inside is. We were quite early; however, the staff was lovely while we waited for them to finish set up.
WOW again. We were offered a wonderful appetizer while we waited. It was called Agnolotti and it was so very delicious. Homemade corn stuffed pasta with chorizo. Big yum!
WOW WOW WOW for main I had the lobster roll. Hubby had the burger. Both came with fries. This was absolutely the best lobster roll I've ever had EVER! Simple, warm roll, big big chunks of lobster, bit of celery and tarragon. Fries were not oily and nice and crispy. Hubby had a juicy burger and fries. Very very nice. He was happy too.
So full and content after this delicious meal. We are going back!
Mains are limited BUT they make it perfect so it's worth it.
I think the idea is also for beer because I saw 24 handles for serving different beers (I guess). We are not drinkers so that part was lost on us. But if the food is an example you beer lovers will be happy.
We will definitely go back before summers end. I NEED that lobster roll once more.
Thank you Chef Chris for a wonderful time.
One of my favorite local spots. The food is EXCELLENT... menu is always updated with fresh & seasonal ingredients. Their custom cocktails are great as well. And the owners are the two nicest people - so it is wonderful to support a local business that exceeds quality expectations! LOVE THIS PLACE!
Great find! Small, intimate pub with delicious tapas and interesting craft draughts. They also have a craft cocktail menu in addition to the usual cocktail offerings. We liked that we never felt rushed. We ordered several Tapas and they came out well spaced time wise. Service was good and our server was friendly and on the ball.
We will definitely be back.
Food is exceptional - the service a bit disconnected in paying attention to the customer's needs. Our bus boy was very good, was right there to fill up the water glass each time it was low, which was appreciated. The Mussels were tasty, what I found and what was disappointing is that there were alot of empty shells which means no muscle in them to enjoy.
My wife and I arrived at 5 30pm, there was approximately 5 tables with anywhere fron 2-4 people at each table. Keep in mind this is a small plate restaurant. It was now 6 50 we had been served 2 small plates in that time. We watched as the kitchen would put out one plate at a time in 10-15 minute intervals. Which meant as the other tables received their one dish the others sat and starred. Absolutely ridiculous. Food was marginal at best. I'll never go again.
Best burger I ever had! The restaurant is clean, friendly, accommodating to allergy needs and the food was super fresh. There was four of us so we got six of the small plate appetizers to share. Each one was amazing. I did also get the burger and it was so good! When the bill came we were shocked at how cheap it was. You leave satisfied but not over stuffed. We will be going back for sure!
This restaurant is clearly full of "regulars" who are happy to get together to eat and drink and don't necessarily care about what the food is like. It definitely is a great social place for friends to meet, but the food is eclectic. The idea here is to be different rather than serve food that the average person might want. It was very difficult to find something we wanted (the one dish, roast cauliflower, that I saw on the on-line menu was not offered). I settled on tempura shrimp, and they came out with their heads on. Just what I want to look at on my plate! And I can't say they tasted exceptionally well. The service was average and not very friendly. This is the place to go for friends who just need a place to eat and drink and feel good about spending too much, but otherwise - stay away.
Overall food was good, however the restaurant still needs to get their act together. No silverware on the table. Drinks took a long time and they ran out of many things for a 7:30 dinner reservation AND no desserts left at all. Some of the food was a little too ecletic (shrimp w/heads on and uncooked rice with the rice balls over them - I almost cracked a tooth). Overall though it was a nice place and I would go back.
