I took a friend out to dinner to celebrate her birthday...she wanted to try something new. We loved the food and the cocktails.
Service was great- friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Blackbird Kitchen!
It was absolutely delicious and the service from arriving until departing was warm and welcoming. We can’t wait to return.
Friday was my husband and I’s first visit to Blackbird. It was excellent. We had Italian chicory salad, scallops and whipped ricotta (small plates) and the halibut (entree). Everything was excellent from the cocktails to the food and service. We can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu items.
Very consistent, if possible it gets better and better. A few new dishes all delicious. Cocktails and wine is always amazing too! A perfect night out!
Heard about this place from a few friends and wanted to give it a shot. Food was perfectly seasoned and drinks were as if we were at s speak easy without the pretentiousness. Overall an extremely satisfying evening if wonderful tapas food and drinks. Add this place to your list.
A nice little place to meet friends. The food was excellent as was the service. The shredded kale salad was great...oh get over yourself....kale done right is delicious. :) The ricotta was lovely and the scallops were delicious. Will definitely go back again.
Food was terrible and very overpriced the quality of food was that of something canned or frozen
The food was outstanding which is obviously the most important thing when eating at a restaurant. The kale salad, mussels, scallops, runner beans and Gouda greyere were amazing. The pasta with speck was also delicious, but it didn’t taste like it was homemade. Three out of four of us got small plates, but the other person ordered a burger which didn’t come out to the very end. That was our only complaint about the service. We were seated right next to the kitchen where the orders were coming out and asked to change our table. Unfortunately our request could not be granted. We were able to ignore it but it put a damper on the ambiance. Like I said before, the food was excellent but you did pay for every peppercorn and sliver of speck. Overall I would go back and recommend it to a friend.
Jonathan makes the very best cocktails on the south shore of LI. This is one of the maim reasons we got there often. A must try
great place perfect change from the norm have recommended and will make it a twice a month spot
Food it outstanding at this place. Everything is very fresh and tastes homemade. A little expensive but worth it.
Blackbird is located on Merrick Rd in a strip center in Wantagh. While driving by it is easy to miss, the only distinguishing feature is the White and Black storefront. In side a long bar runs along the right side and tables line the left. There are also tables located in the back towards to open window kitchen. Each time we have been there the staff and owners are very welcoming and attentive. We had pre-gamed dinner so another glass of wine was all we could manage. One of our party had the burger and he is usually pretty picky. He loved it. His only disappointment was no spicy mustard, but he thought the special kitchen to be just right. A friend and I shared shredded Kale salad which I usually resist, but it was excellent. Blackbird offers a list of small plates and 4 or 5 main dishes. We also shared the meatballs and the Mayan Shrimp. Topped it all off with Passion Fruit creme brulee. Wonderful.
I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I booked thinking they observed restaurant week and they did not. Shame on you Open Table. I responded to your email about RW and this place wasn't participating. We stayed anyway. Our salad , Italian Chickories was delicious. The braised runner beans were spicy but good. We ordered the scallops. 2 scallops cut up into slices with what amounted to 1 snap pea diced and sliced was what we were served. $18 for that dish. My husband and I are foodies and have eaten all over the world. The food here may be good but it is not worth the money. We wanted to try it and we did. We will not be going back.
Small plate style and everything was delicious. GREAT drinks too! 4 Drinks cost all most as much as 4 plates of food but it was absolutely delicious all around.
Table of 6 people. We ordered 8 dishes and 2 desserts plus drinks. There was not one dish that I wouldn’t order again. The entire meal was fairly priced for all of the food and alcohol.
We were warmly greeted by a gentleman upon arrival and were lucky enough to get a quiet table in the corner. The host explained the the drink menu, i should say book because it is extensive, and gave us the daily menu. The waitress came over and explained that the menu was updated daily.
My friend and i ordered the kettle one special cocktail, it was a refreshing start to a delicious meal. We opted on sharing a few tapas dishes- white asparagus with a yummy cream sauce, the ricotta on honey toast, fabulous scallops (the shining star of the meal), meatballs and pesto ravioli. Everything was quite tasty. The only area where they fell short was the dessert. We ordered the creme brûlée which honestly was quite awful. We each took a bite and were shocked at how bitter it was. Neither one of us wanted to take a second taste it was practically inedible. That is the only reason i could t give 5 stars to Blackbirds. Our waiter and the bus boy (don’t like that term but not sure what other title to use) were both fantastic- shout out to the busboy who cleared plates and gave fresh utensils after each course. He was super attentive and i just love when a restaurant goes above and beyond for a great dining experience. I will definitely be back again to try some other items.
Loved it!! Will def be back.
Waitress was a bit inattentive and I had to track her down to pay the check. She was at the bar chatting and texting. One bright spot occurred earlier between courses when the waitress who resembles Bianca Jagger stopped by our table to say hello.
We always enjoy Black Bird. Very nice crowd.
This is a lovely little restaurant in a storefront in Wantagh. My husband and I enjoyed the atmosphere and the great service by Deirdre, who answered all of our questions sincerely and with enthusiasm. Other servers were exceptional as well. This is small plates restaurant with fine quality food and an interesting, if limited, menu. The mussels were wonderful and the home made ravioli with pesto were excellent. For an interesting experience, we highly recommend this restaurant. The cocktail menu includes an assortment of old fashioneds that is the most varied I've ever seen.
Shrimp and fluke main dish were lacking in flavor tastes very bland. Prices were very high for average / mediocre food
This was our first visit but definitely not our last!! The small plate selection was outstanding! The quality was some of the best we’ve had and the cocktails are unreal! If only there were bigger considering the price. I will say it is in line with the tasting menu. I think we have found our new favorite restaurant ! If only we can get a reservation 🤞
Amazing food! There are so many varieties for the small plates. They give a nice size potion. Drink menu is fantastic!
Our first time eating here was better than we expected. Limited menu but excellent quality and taste.
The place is very cute and the service was great. The serving sizes seem smaller then most other tapas places I’ve been. So for the size of the portions I feel a little over priced.
We love Blackbird! Inventive, fresh, delicious farm to table menu with great wines & cocktails and outstanding service. Love the dark wood & low lighting & cool music too. Never disappointed!
Ever changing menu and never a bad dish. Love the extensive cocktail menu. A real gem.
Not horrible but certainly nothing special.
For a local place, it’s good. Service outstanding - small plate shrimp overpriced and very little sauce (needs work), burger not large but very good (super salty), kale salad didnt do anything for me - date mini slices didnt fit with cheese...drinks great - fries great.
Better than most around but needs work in kitchen
Great food and outstanding drinks 🤗
Blackbird Kitchen and Cocktails was a pretty place to dine. The booze menu was very inventive - and longer than the food menu! The menu changes frequently. It was somewhat too dark - hard to read the choices.
My group of four shared all small plates - a salad, smoked gouda, scallops, and three pastas - a ravioli, cacio e pepe, and bigoli, and finally Italian meatballs. The portions allowed for a taste or two of each dish. Although the prices were on the high side, the food was rich and satisfying.
Outstanding food and excellent service. This was our second visit and we enjoyed it even more this time. The pastas are a standout!
Service was really terrible and we never complain. Had Mayan Shrimp horrible , meatballs good , black truffle pasta decent but no where near worth $40 and some type of bread ok kinda bland . Very disappointed with entire night bill almost $ 200 for my wife and I and no were near worth it , sorry for bad review but true !!
Food and service is always great. Love the new beverage menu.
The cuisine is excellent. a creative masterpiece of interesting dishes, served beautifully and the service is exceptional. Always a pleasure to be there
The whipped ricotta was amazing!!! I will be back to eat it a multitude of times!
Food and service were great. It’s dark inside and a bit noisy, but not to the level to ruin the experience.
Awesome meal. Had the chef's tasting, courses timed perfectly. Drinks were awesome. Looking forward to coming back
Really nice interior with a long bar. My sense is that they serve good mixed drinks as they have a menu dedicated to specialty drinks. The menu consists mostly of small dishes to share. We split three of these - the mussels, meatballs, and the Shrimp. All were very good. We then split a pasta. The large dishes were not extensive — I believe 4 choices — and nothing appealed to us. Wine choices were also limited which was surprising . There were no Cabernets by the glass and limited choices by the bottle.
We will go back. Not a Saturday night choice but a solid place to go for a more casual dinner. Please note — parking is a problem here.
Excellent service, fabulous food.
Best meal I've had on Long Island! Service was impeccable. Drinks were amazing. NYC in Wantagh!
