Blackbird Ratings and Reviews
I have reviewed Blackbird several times. I will just say that they continue to be my favorite Chicago restaurant, of all time. Has been from the first time I ate there. The food is fabulous. The staff is excellent. It’s sleek, hip, and grown up. I will always come back, for special occasions, and whenever I feel I deserve a sophistcated, creative, and delicious luch or dinner.
My brother and I were seeing each other for the first time in a few months. The lunch pre-fixe is the best value in the city, hands down. I love this restaurant! There is no better place to share a sophisticated yet unpretentious dining experience. Though the tables are close, they are large enough that you maintain your sense of privacy and have plenty of space to enjoy your meal. Thank you.
I love the space and open kitchen. Yes, the tables are close together, but we met a delightful couple and enjoyed talking with them. The food was wonderful. I had the endive salad which was beautiful. Before I had time to really look at it, a waiter came over and “deconstructed” it for me! My sturgeon was excellent!
This the the best quality for value restaurant that I know of in the world (including Paris, NYC, Venice, and Florence). The food is amazing inventive but also really tasty. The service is friendly and informed. Wine list is interesting. BUT it's really noisy. Do not go there to have a quiet conversation, or with a group larger than 4 (at most). Go with one or a couple of good friends who love fine food and have other opportunities to converse at length.
The lunch prix fixe consisting of three courses was absolutely phenomenal. The dishes were served very elegantly, the portions were small as expected, but the taste was beyond what I had imagined. It surpassed my mother's cooking in presentation and matched her best creations in flavor, and my mother is a very gifted cook. I highly recommend this for a romantic outing prior to a piano concert, as was our situation, or for a special occasion. Perhaps, if anything, I wish the servers were a little more attentive to a young couple, and would be kind enough to treat us more similarly to the guests who were more extravagant in their lunch selections.
We’d been to Blackbird’s more casual sister restaurant Avec several times over the years, we knew we’d be in for an upscale treat for our anniversary.
The service was outstanding, the menu small and focused but enough fascinating choices to make is difficult to pick.
The food did not disappoint with great presentation and that feeling that someone wanted to share an intimate dining experience with you with surprising flavors.
The drinks were top notch and their desserts were beautiful.
I definitely recommend this to anyone who appreciates a fine dining experience.
My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary, and got the lunch tasting menu which was amazing! We got a champagne on the house to celebrate our anniversary and loved the food. Except for the fish main dish, all the dishes were phenomenal, especially the shrimp appetizer. The tasting menu was definitely worth $25 per person, and would go again if I'm in town!
Very good place, the decor is minimalist, the staff is great 👍, the food is very tasty and inventive.
We had the 5 course tasting menu, paired with the wine. Very ,very small portions , and I am a light eater . Disappointed to have 2 desserts on the tasting menu , unless one of those, was taking place of the “trou normand” .
The wine pairing was excellent !
All French wines.
Taste the bread ! Tasty, It is just cooked to perfection in the inside , the crust is what I preferred.
I will return, but I’ll be taking a la carte .
Our waitress was knowledgeable and very helpful.
I do recommend.
Hair in my salad. Kind of threw off the whole night after that. Server was apologetic, offered a new one (declined), took it off the bill, sent complimentary dessert even though we didn't order/need any. But I was just kind of turned off after that. I was not wowed by the food. It was just ok.
Blackbird offers creative, bold, and interesting food. Our arctic char and barbecue quail were outstanding! The quail was silken in texture. Service was excellent throughout, despite the fact that the restaurant was packed. Our server recommended excellent wines that complemented the dishes we selected. Timing of courses was also excellent. Given the refined food and superb service, it should be noted that the tables are packed in tightly and you have no choice but to listen to your neighbors or even get to know them. A couple of tables of strangers near us were joking about sharing desserts amongst them! The restaurant noise level is very loud. So there is much to enjoy here, but a private conversation with your dining partner will not be possible. We plan to return because we don't want to miss the unique menu choices.
