Great food for my wife's birthday. Love Blackbird!
Enjoyed the Sturgeon, a delightful fish that very few restaurants serve. The service was excellent and friendly. A very cool dining venue. We live in CA.
Delicious food! Everything is perfect!
Always one of my favorite lunches in the City. The service is fantastic, so even if you are enjoying a wonderful 3 course meal you can enjoy it in less than an hour.
Fantastic meal for just $25. Not sure anywhere else in the city beats that value!
Tasting menu was delicious! And very nicely presented. Tables are close together - but people are so friendly, I had some great conversation with the tables next to me.
Loved the food and thought the $25 lunch was a bargain. Service was efficient but not friendly.
Went for the $25 prix fixe to try out this newly Michelin star restaurant. Can say it was an overall underwhelming experience. The service and decor was outstanding, but the food left much to be desired.
I had ordered the falafel as the appetizer, the whitefish for the entree, and the matcha tiramisu for dessert.
Falafel: delicious and probably the best dish out of all 3. Nicely deep fried, flavorful, and savory. The dish was balanced with some acidic fennel, dill, and grapefruit.
Whitefish: fish was tender, but the whole dish just tasted like bacon. Didn't feel too memorable.
Matcha Tiramisu: nice green color, but zero matcha taste. The chocolate caramel ice cream over powered the dessert. I felt it was way too sweet. I was hoping for more of a strong matcha taste in place of a strong brandy/coffee taste with traditional tiramisu. Also, the amount of "cream" to lady finger ratio was pretty extreme. Every bite was essentially a mouth full of "cream".
Worse offender was the hanger steak, which my companion ordered. Probably the toughest and chewiest piece of meat I had ever eaten from a high end restaurant. The dressing creme fraiche was overpowering and took away the beefy taste we were looking for. I had cooked hanger steak at home and it was never this tough. Even Benihana's hibachi steaks were more tender and flavorful.
Maybe dinner is different, but lunch was definitely a let down.
We want to try this restaurant becasuse the reviews, the beef was incredible, the sturgeon is like the main dish and also was incredible. We recommend this 100%
Food was a culinary experience. Servicer was knowledge and friendly and efficient. Only thing I did not like was tables were way too close. Sorry, but it was uncomfortable listening to the next tables conversations.
We were 4 and took the tasting menu of 10 courses and the wine pairing. This was absolutely wonderful. Very creative cuisine, very well presented and well described by the staff. Wine pairing was perfect but the size of each glass a little bit low. The only negative note is the level of noise which is very high especially when there are a large group at a table near you.
Very disappointing service. Never going back again. This was my first and last visit to Blackbird.
First, I was unable to order the tasting course due to dietary restrictions, and the server would not allow other members of my table order the tasting menu. The only option was for all four of us to order or no one. I understand why it is difficult for a kitchen to mange a course menu, but other Michelin Star restaurants usually ask how we would like the courses spaced if the table is ordering differently.
The biggest issue for me was related to what should have been a simple task...paying the bill. When we ordered, I ask our waiter, George, for separate checks between the two couples. When the bill came it was not split, so I politely asked again. When the checks came back, the bills were not split correctly, but they were close enough, so we didn't say anything. Then when we paid, he charge the bills to the wrong cards even though we clearly separated the checks and cards. He acted like he did not want to fix them, so I had to ask him to fix the charges. When he returned, he made the same mistake again!!! George disappeared and 20 minutes later another staff finally showed up with corrected bills. It was extremely unprofessional for George to simply disappear. While waiting I had to extend parking 30 minutes and pay more. George never returned to apologize. I reluctantly left a tip, but now I really regret it.
Splitting and paying a bill should be an easy task, but they seemed to struggle multiple times. The food was good, but their terrible service left a bad taste in my mouth.
Great ambiance, impeccable service, lovely menu. Blackbird was a memorable meal and I can't wait to go back.
Delicious tasting menu, wonderful experience, and great service! Thank you again!
Blackbird was incredible! I didn't do the tasting menu, but the a la carte items were amazing. Would recommend the beef tenderloin entree, as well as the shrimp and lobster and wagyu beef appetizers. We had a friendly, attentive server, and the noise level was manageable.
Overall food was OK. Service is slow and has been slow every time I go there (I have been there probably 3 times) and last time I remembered why I hadn’t comeback. Service is just not good.
Blackbird is a great spot in a city that has many good restaurants.
Love this place. It never disappoints. Paid $400 for tasting menu with two drinks. It's not cheap but love going here.
10 out of 10 would do it again. I have been bragging all week to my friends. It is a small space, so don't think you are going to bring your biggest purse/work bag/ backpack with you and comfortably fit. Oh, and parking is tight. However it is great place for a quick but satisfying lunch or a nice relaxed dinner.
Excellent value for gourmet American cuisine with great value
Prix fixe lunch special is a great deal with 3 great options for each course.
The restaurant was a a little cramped for my taste. The tables along the both were on top of each other
My seasonal tasting menu is great! Service was very thorough!
Fantastic in every aspect.
Probably the best meal I’ve had in my life...at least top 10!!! The food was amazing, so carefully curated and balanced. The wine was superb. The wait staff was perfect. So great!
Fantastic meal, from appetizer to desert. Everything was incredible.
The tasting menu has changed significantly since last year - now with more delicate asian flavors perfusing the meal. Great balance of sweet, savory, acidity and salt! They still have a perfect touch and a thoughtful wine list to match. Paired the seasonal tasting with a 2013 chateauneuf du pape.
Went for my fiancé’s birthday and got the tasting menu with wine pairings. Everything was absolutely fantastic, from the food itself to the waiter’s through explanation of each pairing. Thank you!
Can't argue with all the James Beard awards, food is really special. Room is very loud and it was difficult to carry a conversation at times. Also very expressive. We enjoyed our evening at Blackbird
I had no idea when Blackbird was recommended to me by a very prominent chef in St. Petersburg to eat at ( David Benstock). I got halfway through my meal and texted him that this was in the top 5 meals I have ever had. He laughed and told me about the Michelin stars and James beard awards. Truly a great experience. I would rate it as epic. I would fly to chicago tomorrow to eat at blackbird again. Thank you for the experience. It will not be forgotten.
Halibut: yum yum.
Service: Above and beyond.
Wine choices: excellent.
As always, the attention to every detail of our meal is as meticulous as can be.
Overall, an outstanding dining experience.
Our experience at Blackbird is always outstanding, so we keep returning. The menu is relatively limited, but offerings change frequently and there are always tempting choices. The white tuna and marinated tofu were excellent appetizers; the Amish chicken and sturgeon with fava beans were wonderful entrees. The staff proposed good wines by the glass and gave attentive and professional service. We left very satisfied. Our only wish is that the noise level were lower and the tables a little farther apart, but in Chicago, that is unrealistic. We look forward to a return visit.
Excellent food, excellent service, serene decor. A favorite.
The Endive salad and the skate wings were our collective favorites.
The crispy potato basket was a delicious surprise.
The skate wings were sautéed to perfection.
Yes had the grilled octopus and it was very tasty as well.
The restaurant is very crowded and the noise level makes it almost difficult to visit.
Splendid meal. Can’t wait to come back.
Creative dishes impeccably prepared and delivered. Right-sized for a satisfying meal.
The food is fun well adjusted for the season and just amazing!
Too contrived. Drinks lackluster; strong does not mean tasty. Food uninspired, so-so. Desserts overly salted. Not a pleasing experience. Will not come back.
