Blackbird Ratings and Reviews
Celebrated my son's 21st birthday here recently and the staff was amazing. They made it extra special by surprising us with delicious tequila shots on the house as well as a special dessert just for my son. The food was wonderful, the service impeccable and they made my son feel very special in a classy and elegant way!
The menu is seasonal but delightful. Each dish is well thought out and was seasoned to perfection. The noise level was loud when we first got in but there were only 1 or 2 seats available at the time we got in, but had cleared through out the meal. Overall a wonderful meal amd night
For a restaurant that carries such a great name, I was relatively disappointed with certain parts of the evening - namely, the service (not including the front door service). Plates such as the pork terrine, wagyu beef, venison sausage and skate were exceptional and jam-packed with strong flavors in every bite. I was not able to taste much of the blue crab, as the cauliflower overpowered the dish. Our waiter was not very tentative and appeared once in a blue moon to check on us; conversely, he was very much present at our neighbor's table. We also did not get the best recommendations or information on the plates. The night ended on a high note with the delicious apple cider donuts.
During the last few weeks we have eaten at several Restaurant week places both in NYC and Chicago. My husband and I agree that Blackbird was the very best of all of them. Our warm shrimp salad was a unique tasty start. My husband enjoyed the duck confit and I the trout. Although we had similar choices at the other highly rated restaurants, the taste was not as great.
Two of went for lunch. We had the warm complimentary bread & a glass of wine to start. We tried the restaurant week menu & enjoyed each course (warm shrimp, hanger steak & dessert). The food was flavored & cooked to perfection. The staff was all wonderful. We had an amazing lunch experience.
Don't be intimidated by the small portions; if you do the prixe fixe menu, you will be satisfied. All of the dishes were deliciously complex. The service was excellent; just as you would expect fine dining to be--replacing a white napkin with black if you're wearing dark colors, clearing each course, replacing silverware, crumbing the table, etc. I went for restaurant week and it was well worth it.
Been wanting to try this place for quite a while. Finally took advantage during restaurant week. Loved it! One of the best lunches I have ever had! The whitefish was incredible! Definitely recommend! Very clean and contemporary! Keith the server was fantastic; quick, informative and very friendly service!
I had been here 3-4 years ago for lunch and the meal was phenomenal. I was a little disappointed with the prefix lunch menu this time - the food tasted more salty than anything. I'll give it 4 stars because maybe it was the restaurant week ordering that provided me with the dishes that are maybe rushed through. I will give it one more shot before writing Blackbird off entirely.
While Blackbird has a tasting menu, it is possible to enjoy many of their different flavors without spending $125 for the tasting. We enjoyed getting a couple appetizers and desserts to share and then tasting each others' entrees and got a taste of the diverse flavors at the restaurant. Their ice cream is phenomenal!
Was at restaurant for the first time for special occasion. While the restaurant itself has a somewhat casual look, the food and service are exceptional. We both had the tasting menu and wine pairing, and somewhat in the high side compared to other restaurants with a similar concept it was a good value.
I took my husband here for his birthday. We absolutely loved it! We sat close enough to kitchen where we had the opportunity to see our food prepared. Everything was plated beautifully! Even though I'm vegetarian, there were still options for me that I loved. The service was impeccable. Would absolutely recommend!
This restaurant is definitely one of the best in Chicago. They saw we wrote it was our anniversary and came over with complimentary champagne. It was a lovely evening and the menu was so creative- a reason why it is so critically acclaimed. Really fantastic experience and service overall.
Superb delicately layering of flavors. Been coming here for almost two decades, more often for lunch than for dinner in recent years as the lunch pre fixe is great value for money.
Came for dinner again. My skate wing and lobster with celeriac was perfect. As good as the skate wing and lobster were, I think the favorite part of the dish was the celeriac. Think it was just lightly roasted.
Had the fig ice cream for dessert. Substantial portion size. Perfectly melded.
I recently dined at Blackbird as a birthday celebration with friends. Everything was good, some things very good. But here's the thing, it's a Michelin starred restaurant and I thought I would be wowed. I ordered a non-alcoholic drink of ginger and limeade. It was just o.k. The entrees were all fine. I ordered sturgeon wrapped in potato which was very nice. Our shared appetizer of eggplant tempura was tasty. Desserts were a bit disappointing though. There was an assortment of ice creams and sorbets that sounded good. One sorbet was sold out (the one I was eyeing of course) so I settled on pistachio-fig ice cream. It was really just o.k. Another friend ordered pineapple upside down cake. The waitress told us it was not really sweet and the pastry chef used farmers cheese in it. My friend took a chance but sent it back saying it was salty. We received a complimentary dessert that, though pretty, was sort of a glorified Hostess Ho-Ho. With tip it was around $70 each. Maybe I was just expecting too much. Again, nothing really BAD, but I probably would not return.
We booked this restaurant for a Thursday dinner because originally we thought this is the Chicago Restaurant week. However it turned out they only participate for lunch. But we were totally fine with having their dinner menu and tasting menu and the prices of the food are unbelievable reasonable (considering it's a One-Star Michelin). Although we couldn't order from the restaurant week menu, we were very happy with the appetizer and entree we ordered. The only thing with my food is the pasta in my entree (Skate Wings) was a little hard to chew and to cut. Service was good; but not as fancy as some of the other Michelin restaurants' we have been to. There used to be one that once we paid the bill they already informed the valet so we didn't need to wait at the door. Blackbird is not there yet (not to complain anything, just saying as a Michelin restaurant what could have been improved). But definitely a good one for foodies and the food is impressive enough to lure me to go again.
Amazing experience, staff was some of the best we have ever had- impeccable service. We had dinner early and since it was pretty quiet, they even brought us an extra appetizer. The tempura eggplant was phenomenal! Also had the truffle/steak which was extraordinary. Will definitely be back.
Waited over 45 minutes for a table and then finally asked and were seated. Host didn’t approach us at all but approached at least three other couples and talked to them. Food took forever, but was good when eventually came out. Restaurant definitely choose who they through was important and left others in the dust. Not impressed.
great service, great wine other appetizers, entries outstanding but ....
my venison sausage entry tasted like a premium hot dog
one of the desserts I tasted ,the dough was undercooked and chewy .it stuck to your teeth
fix each course to the rest of the great meal consistently is when you get a four star restaurant instead of its three star rating Daniel
This is the second time I have tried blackbird (the first being about 4 years ago) and I have been left unimpressed on that, and this, occasion.
Despite having requested a nice table to celebrate an anniversary, my girlfriend and I were sat next to a group of 4 people - even though there were about only about 5 other tables occupied at the time.
Moreover, our waiter forgot out cocktail orders and we had to remind him of our order.
Our waiter told we could order a vegetarian alternative to the quail that was listed on the menu. We got a plate of 4 burnt/fried carrots, with carrot garnish, and a carrot sauce. Awful.
Finally, the server pouring our water had horrible breath.
Very professional staff and a great creative selection of cocktails. I had the Genuine Risk and it was utterly delightful. The food was absolutely satisfactory. Overall vibe I got from the food selection was creativity. Definitely recommend it to anyone who is a foodie like me.
Food was very good, though the whitefish during restaurant week was a little too salty (and I’m a salt lover). I’ve been to Blackbird several times before and the service this time was subpar. Hopefully it was a one-off. We also saw the waitstaff dressing tables and they were touching the ends of all the silverware. In a higher end spot like Blackbird, we were caught off guard that they weren’t more sanitary in their approach.
