Horrible experience. The staff was rude to us and wouldn't seat us despite having a reservation.
Service was slow. Would order a drink and came out 20 min later. Restaurant was not that crowded. Sat indoors.
Service and decor were very nice. The host accommodated us early for our reservation. The menu looked enticing but the food was mediocre and somewhat bland. Bloody Mary had a harsh flavor that was not enjoyable. Would not go back.
Went at noon for a Saturday brunch. Food was good, but I expected more. The portion sizes were obscenely huge, especially the pancakes. Hard to get a refill for coffee. Live music was nice.
Great place, great food and great service. A little too noisy for a conversation, though.
Food is a bit too heavy - pork and fried items in so many dishes.
Exquite and refined a venerable feast for the senses. It was like being at every ski lodge that had an obvious sense of luxe but with an urban flair. I think if they had a fireplace we would have never left. From the sommelier to our waitress and the support staff we were treated like a VIP which we are. In addition we left another restaurant a favorite of ours in Kips Bay wanted to shove us in a two person table in the worst location after explaining that the refined booths were taken for an hour later. We were seated in a 4 person booth table with great views of everything including Chef John’s careful culinary experience and attention to every detail: My beef shank was the best meal I have ever had the pleasure of my world wide gourmand experiences in the worlds very best restaurants. Also the bread pudding was delicious but also well represented. It’s difficult to achieve style without pretension, Homey and cozy without tacky decoration. I’m sad to be so positive I mean I expect to be turned away because their so packed. I am very ruthless when it comes to reviews of a bit of a 4 dollar rated place, but I tipped the staff 30 percent and would have delighted to dine at double the price. Oscar Wilde said, “one should eat well and live well” Black Barn is culture for beginners.
Excellent brunch menu and food. Cool ambience. Service acceptable.
It’s clear there is new staff so things aren’t 100% smooth. It took about 15 minutes to get us seated for our reservation that we were on time for. The wrong side was delivered and an item was missing. But the food was fantastic as always, issues were corrected as quickly as they could, servers were friendly and made great recommendations, drinks were delicious. This is a regular stop for me so I’ll certainly be back!
Very good service ... professional and polite. Food was also good. Ambiance is pleasant. Will definitely return and recommend to others.
They don’t know how to make lattes or i should say they don’t make the effort because they did get it right the third time. They basically poor an americano in a cup and then add some hot milk on top. Hardly the steamed milk that comes our creamy with two strong shots of espresso.
The food didn’t come out at the same time for everyone.
Service was okay and food was decent. Not going there again anytime soon unfortunately.
Lunch was great-ran out of mini muffins but waiter was very nice about it and let us know at least! Good outdoor space set up!
We were there on a Saturday night; the restaurant seemed very understaffed so service was very slow. The food was fine but would not go back for outdoor dining.
Another amazing meal at Blackbarn , from the wild mushroom toast and tuna tartare to the branzino and not to be missed duck breast pastrami. Bread pudding and homemade donuts were decadent!
AMAZING!! Service was good, not outstanding, but food was incredible.
Unfortunately our service for lunch yesterday was inattentive. Despite multiple attempts to get service we were ignored most of our meal. The manager Diane did come to the table and apologize for the delay but things didn’t improve.
We noticed that the mac I get it, but I've had far better service and food (considering this is not a cheap restaurant) in New York in recent weeks. Hopefully, this was just an off night.
It was awesome. Was a patron maybe two years ago and have not been back until this past evening. The squid appetizer was to die for and the crispy skin bass entree was spectacular. The bottle of the Pascal Janvier Coteaux du Loire was the perfect pairing. The highlight of the evening was our server Kristi. She made us feel like family. Can not wait until my next visit.
Seating limited to bar area where noise level is unbearable and tables are cocktail level — too low for eating. When we asked ( three times) to be seated outside, we were ignored.
Will never go back!
I have been here a couple times for brunch, and the food and drinks have been excellent both times. I will definitely continue coming back here!
Unbelievable food 4 real
Would so come back
Love love love the brunch menue
We didn't realize there would be a concert down the block. Perhaps Black Barn did not know about it either.
This was my husband and my first date since our baby was born so, we really wanted to have a good time. Made a reservation for 1:30pm today. Was running late, let them know and arrived at 1:40pm. They were a HOT mess with the tables (we sat outside). We finally sat down 15 min later but were given no menus. Finally got menus, after I asked 2 diff people 15 min later, and ordered our food and drinks. 20 minutes later, still nothing. This is 1 hour after our original reservation time. Food was nothing special.
The service was not good. They didn't check on us at all and when they finally did notice our drinks weren't even out yet, they checked on it and brought over just one of our drinks and asked "oh did you order something too?" Mind blown. This restaurant isn't even that busy, so not sure what happened. They did end up comping our drinks though.
I don't think I would ever come back to this place. Not worth the headache and the price point. They're lucky we even gave them any tip at all. So disappointing seeing all the good reviews!
Sadly this restaurant seemed to suffer from the staffing issues associated with the pandemic, but in their defense they tried to be really nice about all the issues. First, I checked in and was seated. My friend arrived a few minutes later but the hostess told him there was no reservation under my name and I was not there. Thankfully I had texted him and he saw me. Second, no one seemed to notice us. No one asked about taking an order or brought waters etc. We flagged down a server and he told us he was just assigned the section. Ok...I ordered a burger well done. It came rare. I sent it back and it seemed to take forever to come back out. When it did, there was no ketchup so I requested some and there was a similar delay. The server was very apologetic which was good, but...my friend finished his meal before mine even came out. Not good. Also, they have these really low tables which is okay for me, but my over-6-feet-tall friend had to keep his legs to the side. Yikes. I think this place could be a great choice once the service issues are fixed, and I appreciated the apology. I would go back and try it again. The live music was nice!
Great food, wide open space. Service was excellent and we felt very safe.
The tuna sliders were amazing! I love the view overlooking the Park.
The kale salad is incredible too and they have my favorite burger and cauliflower!
We went for Sunday brunch. The food was amazing and we had great weather. There was street traffic but its across from the park so overall it was a nice spot to sit outside. Service was pretty slow but we were happy to sit so not really a big complaint.
Recommend by a friend and my wife and I were extremely happy with all aspects of the meal. I saw some reviews complaining of poor service but ours was outstanding! Highlights were the fig pizza and truffle gnocchi. Would highly recommend.
Great food and ambiance, service was amazing. For me my dish was delicious but too salty. Might’ve been an off night?
So great to sit outside at the north end of Madison Park…loved the fig white cheese flatbread while we reviewed the menu. Great as they offer both Tavern snd Dining Room menu to diners. Interesting cocktails too! Definitely plan to go again
Great location near the park, goid food
Great atmosphere and service. Waiter Olivier was knowledgeable and terrific. Food was unique and creative with great flavor. Even the physical layout was attractive. Thumbs up.
I came here three years ago and literally had the best service ever. I was very surprised this time how terrible the service was. There was plenty of wait staff and the restaurant wasn’t full. It took them over 15 min to even check on us node seated. Drinks took over 30 min to come. We had to remind them on the wine multiple times. The food is excellent but the service was terrible and if I wasn’t having a leisurely dinner with friends I would have complained in person or walked out. Please fix this!
The service was terrible and the restaurant was empty. Very disappointing!
Disappointing visit after being excited for their reopening. Service started strong but everything collectively just failed mid-meal. Food was good but flat. Managers were running food themselves after an unacceptable wait time from the kitchen….couldn’t get salt nor glasses cleared from the table. Asked for a dessert menu which never arrived until the manager brought our check and said we should take a look for next time…
This was my second time at Blackbarn. First time, dinner before the pandemic was wonderful. Had to wait a long time to go again, but brunch was just as delicious.
Want to go back again.
Great experience - however, closes earlier than you'd think.
I was really happy when I read that BLACKBARN opened again. It is a great place, with very good food and service.
I stopped by early and sat at the bar I heard from a friend to check out the burger, Seriously one of the best burgers I had in NYC.
The staff was great, they have a great selection of spirits some local some well known. I will come back again
