Need to book at 7:00 PM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Food was mediocre. Staff was over-tasked. Not worth the money.
Always delicious and Chef John is amazing. Such a thoughtful and talented chef. I always have a great time and highly recommend Blackbarn.
I booked this restaurant for my brother's 34th birthday. We had a group of 7 and our server Dimitri was amazing. He was attentive even with the large amount of tables he had and always checked in on us. We loved the menu and the drink choices for brunch at BLACKBARN. We got the chocolate babka coffee cake and it was fluffy and delicious. We also got the blue corn "johnny cakes" which I would 100% recommend and I don't love sweet foods, but this honey drenched "cake" was SO good. I got the wagyu steak sandwich as my main and it was incredible. I almost couldn't finish it all, but it was just too good not to. If you go for brunch definitely do the build your own bloody mary bar!!
Very fresh and delicious food. The place is large but stills feels intimate. Really enjoyed the service as well.
Ordered the breakfast sandwich and there cornflake crusted French toast. Food was delicious, service was excellent, vibe was very upbeat and trendy. The noise level was a bit loud and hard to hear but otherwise positive experience.
Overall, this is very much a 4 of 5 star place. The food is warm, cozy and delicious. Nothing mind blowing but enjoyable. The service vibe from staff was nice, professional but lacking that warmth you might find at a Danny Meyers restaurant. The decor and ambiance was excellent although it does get loud on a busy night. Overall, I would come back to dine here and recommend it to others.
Mushy, overcooked prawn and fatty steak served cold... charc board was very good. Our sever was very nice, but overall disappointing.
Food service and wine
We will be back.
Had dinner & drinks with 8 client/friends. Food (entrees and shareables), wine, and cocktails were all excellent. Our server made great suggestions and kept up with us expertly without being intrusive. The noise level in the room rose during peak time so for a while we were conversing in 2 groups of 4 rather than all together, but other than that, it was superb.
We had the pancakes and the Southern fried chicken with waffles. Both dishes were absolutely unbelievable. We were very impressed with the service. Our waiter, David, was excellent and attentive. When we expressed that we did not like the bloody marys but said we would pay for them, he immediately offered to take them off the bill. Later, the floor manager Jackie, came to talk to us and ask us exactly why we were unhappy with them. I've never had that happen in a restaurant. I'm extremely impressed and will recommend this restaurant often. Thank you so much to everyone for giving us great rainy Sunday afternoon in New York.
Great food, cool vibe, service a little disjointed this time.
Awesome food and drinks as always. Great place to bring my friend visiting from Australia. Love that you can reserve a table for Brunch
First time there, food was wonderful, little pricey. I think I would opt for the tavern menu next time. But would definitely go again!
Good food and everything started off well, however when me and my friend finished our meal, it took half an hour or more for someone to clear our table and offer dessert, when they finally did we kind of lost the interest in that.
None of the food was served hot. We were a bit rushed and we were only seated at 845pm. Server was friendly and food was tasty.
Had a fantastic brunch, everything we ordered was delicious
we were seated in the back which is less crazy and very comfy. all the food is exceptional. the prices are high but worth it for the food. the wine prices are honestly just too high. most bottles $80 and many over $100. but the food is exqusiite
Nice atmosphere but really loud. The bar folks spilled into the restaurant and if I’d been there trying to have a nice meal it would have annoyed me. We mostly had a few drinks and a couple appetizers. Felt much more like a bar than a restaurant. That said, I liked the space a lot.
They overbooked the tables and had no tables for us when I had made a reservation a few days prior
Spectacular service with Dimitri! The food never disappoints.! The bone marrow, fois gras, cauliflowers &pizza were delicious. The pork melted in my mouth and the BBQ beef rib was fantastic as was the lobster! This was our second time and we will be back soon!
The driest and over fried chicken wing in the world. Lobster roll was good, would go back again for lobster roll only,
We had a great experience here prior so decided to try BlackBarn again. We were thrilled again. Had a different lobster dish each time and unlike most places, they cooked the lobster in the dishes to perfection!
Our entire wait staff was attentive. The front of the house was noisy bar atmosphere, the bartender was excellent. The dining room in the back was all atmosphere, quieter and tables were spaced so perfectly to allow privacy and conversation. We will go back again!
This was my 2nd visit to the restaurant... came for my birthday with girlfriends back in Feb 2019.
My husband and I were taking out my Aunt & Uncle for their birthdays and I chose this restaurant to celebrate their big birthdays!! It was a wonderful choice. The service was excellent, except for the fact we had to ask for the bread basket. The appetizers and entrees were prepared and plated excellent.
Everyone enjoyed sharing appetizers. Our entrees were also delicious.
We ordered the Chocolate souffle and coffees for dessert.
Highly recommend this restaurant and we definitely will be back again !
It was wonderful! We had a big group. Everyone was very accommodating. We had a great time!
Excellent restaurant with great (yet expensive) wine selection. We had branzini as main course and it was outstanding! Loved the ambiance. Great place where you need to pay some $s but you get good food and service for what you pay for.
Poor service. Waited 45 minutes for entree and had no appetizer. Waited 20 minutes for a cup of coffee.
Always a solid meal and environment. A go to in Madison Square Park.
Blackburn is officially my absolute favorite restaurant right now. David who served us was awesome and his recommendations were on the money great. I do recommend sitting in the back room if you are looking to have a conversation. The front gets noisy with the happy hour crowd.
What a birthday DISASTER.
I was BEYOND disappointed with so many things at Blackbarn. I'd heard so many great things and was really looking forward to my meal. They had been accommodating the week prior as I expanded my reservation.
We sat down promptly at our reservation time, and immediately wanted to put in food and drink orders. It took FORTY-FIVE minutes to get our drinks. The appetizers were served 35 minutes after sitting down (a few flatbreads/toasts, things that should not have taken long at all) and those were good. I finally complained again and received my drink, which I wanted to enjoy before receiving my food.
The entrees themselves were sub-par. $52 for a previously frozen prawn and dry steak wasn't my idea of a birthday dinner. My husband and other guests got the lobster risotto - and the risotto wasn't cooked. We were really disappointed. Other guests got tuna and chicken which they said was good.
When we informed the manager about our disappointment with the steak he was rude, condescending, and the farthest thing from helpful. He made my guests uncomfortable, and embarrassed me. He spoke that way to 3 people at the table and I was in shock that a manager would do that. Our waitress on the other hand was very apologetic and sweet, and sent out desserts on the house which we appreciated. All of the desserts were very good.
I really was upset and let down with my experience here. I wanted to have the best meal, and expected that for the price we paid for glasses of wine and entrees, that food would be cooked, drinks would be served, and the manager wouldn't be a complete jerk. I was wrong.
The food and service was great; ate too much actual food and didn't have room for dessert. :)
The food took a long time to come. And there are no organic wines to go with the organic food
Found the food bland menu looked good but food was ordinary
Sharable kale salad was outstanding. Entrees balances flavor well and were perfectly sized. Extensize wine list...
BB was super cute!! It was my first time there and it was better than expected! We asked the waitress to suggest her faves and we selected a few of hers and some of our own (burnt grapefruit/avocado toast/waffle croque madame/egg white fritatta - all were really good! We will soon make a ressie for dinner but overall I give BB a thumbs up! PS - the live music is a plus!!!
Amazing dining experience!!!
Our server was excellent - great personality. The only downside on the rest of the service was that our water glasses were refilled once and then forgotten (mine sat empty for half the meal). Food was delicious and seasonal (heirloom tomato starter was outstanding and cleverly presented). This is likely to become one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants.
My wife and I loved our experience here. We came here for our last date before becoming parents and were not disappointed. Food was excellent, service was great, and the overall cost/value was very reasonable. My wife ordered the lamb chops while I ordered the duck breast & sausage, both of which we would strongly recommend. Noise level was moderate, which could be distracting at times, but we could still easily hear each other speak. Overall, I would definitely recommend and will likely be back one day to try other dishes.
While I called to inform them that I would be late, they said it was not a problem and that they would seat us once there. They put us at a high top bar table in the front without intention to bring us to the restaurant portion in the back until we spoke up the second twice about having a reservation. We came with the intention to participate in a restaurant week menu, but was unfortunately left with their normal menu. Given that we had so much trouble just trying to get our reservation back, we stayed to give it a chance. The fire alarm was unexpected, but directions on where to go, or apologies on the situation did not occur. There was a clear smell of smoke that traveled throughout the restaurant while our waitress claimed that the restaurant was large so any alarm would set off the entire restaurant, when the issue was clearly within seating distance from us. I do not recommend this location for dinner, but do intend to come back to rate their happy hour menu in the future.
Excellent brunch. Great variety of food. Definitely will return
I prefer Farm to Table restaurants and picked the restaurants based on that. The interior and aesthetics and seating arrangements are fun, fresh and airy. We had seafood dishes and liked them for their simplicity and freshness. The portions are a bit on the smaller side but with a shared appetizer we were fine. The wine list is for most parts above $100/bottle range but some choices around $70-90 range. All in all a good experience.
