It took nearly an hour for our food to arrive and they completely forgot my two year olds meal. We had to have them pack it up to go since lunch took so long we had to take him home for his nap. Good thing we brought some food of our own for my son!
The food and food service was great.
However, management and the hostesses did not seem to care about their customers based upon the arrival experience
What a great find! This restaurant has a great rustic look with a casual vibe. I was there for brunch with a few friends, and we all really liked it. A nice variety of comfort food which ranges from "healthier" to really indulging. Both the Chicken & Waffle and Chicken & Biscuit were big hits. I would definitely go back again. And now, I am intrigued to see what their dinner menu is like.
Love Blackbarn’s jazz brunch ! They have live music every weekend in the front tavern, which is great for drinks or a more casual but festive brunch experience.
The waiter was super attentive and the cuisine was very tasty.
Food was great. Service not so much. Felt like we were imposing on the waiter. Potential to be 5 stars minus the attitude!
Just fabulous! Delicious food, excellent drinks, fantastic ambiance!
The atmosphere at Black Barn was cool and chic. Chairs were comfortable and loved the open kitchen. My daughter and I shared a salad and grilled octopus for appetizers. They complimented each other perfectly and then shared branzino as a main course. My husband had a special pasta appetizer and steak for dinner. Portions were large and seasoned beautifully. Our waitress was very nice and knew the menu well, but was a little flakey on bringing refills of our drink orders. Overall, a great dining experience!
Great food! And service
Waited 30 minutes for a table and the bar area was not conducive to waiting. There were many open seats & tables in the bar area - which were for walk ins that never walked in. Poor service. Good food - bring A LOT of patience.
We were in NYC for a fun weekend...Loved BLACKBARN so much for Friday night dinner that we came back for Sunday Brunch! THE BEST Bloody Mary and a super wine list. Do NOT pass up the loaded Totts!
Great food, friendly service. I was pleased with the experience overall.
Everything was excellent! Service, food, wine, and ambiance were beyond my expectations.
Vibrant scene at Sunday brunch, music in the outer dining area, rustic setting in rear dining area with rooms for private parties and a loft. Attentive service and creative cuisine. A hit all around.
We had a great evening. I recommended the restaurant to a few friends and will definitely come back again. The service was friendly and attentive and very good. The food is excellent as are the drinks. The reason for 4-stars on service is, while the apps arrived promptly, the entrees took an undue amount of time (at least thirty minutes after the apps) and our server could have been a bit more informed on the menu. 4-stars for value may seem too high for some guests. However, if you are familiar with prices in the area for this level of restaurant it is a good deal for the quality of what you are served, the level of service, and the ambiance. It can get a bit loud as the restaurant fills up. So if you seek conversation arrive close to when they open for dinner. Looking forward to returning.
Very good meal. Very happy to have them back onOpenTable!
Great wine, awesome charcuterie board, amazing beef ribs! Delicious dinner and great service for a business dinner , would recommend to anyone!
I was not in love with any of the flavors. The white pizza appetizer with carmalized onions was over sweet and the duck and sausage dish just a little sloppy in appearance and haphazard with the tastes. The Cappucino is served in an inappropriate handle free cup for the temperature served, that heats up to a ridiculous level, without a cloth napkin, too hot to handle. I’ve had brunch here and it’s excellent. Dinner I felt priced above its standard.
Food was fantastic, cool decor and nice vibe!
Good service, creative menu. Cocktails were well made and reasonably priced. Starters looked interesting but were disappointing. Mushroom flatbread was bland and the bone marrow with Manila clam tasted off and had a gritty texture. Entrees redeemed the meal. After dinner ports were disappointing.
Food was great, service extremely slow due to wait staff being assigned to a party room and our table at the same time. We starter with the mushroom toast which was very savory. Our water glasses were constantly filled and the manager ended up taking our dinner order. We were offered and accepted complimentary vegetable samosas that looked like two bite raviolis. Our group of five ordered 2 diver scallops, the squash raviolis which appeared more like giant dumplings and the artic char entrees. We shared the cinnamon donuts for dessert and the butterscotch bread pudding which was outstanding. We would go again.
Black Barn is always spot on with a great farm to table menu, great ambiance and super service.
We wanted to like this restaurant. Great location and ambiance. But service was slow with long wait times throughout the entire meal. Had to ask for more water. Ask for more coffee. The food was ok but seemed slightly over cooked. Did not seem busy. Unfortunate as we wanted a local place to frequent.
Good food - a little over priced but good. Highly recommend the French fries
Brunch was off the charts! Best in NYC
great all around. no complaints
Good spot for a corporate account. Beautiful space. Wine list is nice but entire menu is unfortunately about 25-30% overpriced for the quality.
The food was lovely. However, the service was dire.
SERVICE EXCEPTIONALLY SLOW THAT DAY - JAN 1 2019 FOR BRUNCH
WE HAD A 145PM RES - WE GOT THERE EARLY BUT THEY WOULDN'T SEAT US TILL 145 AND ONLY AFTER I REMINDED THEM THAT WE WERE WAITING
ONCE SEATED THE PLACE WAS 1/2 FULL SO WE WERE RATHER PUZZLED WHY WE WERENT SEATED RIGHT AWAY ?
Have dined here for a weekday lunch and a holiday brunch, and both times were fantastic. Excellent food with creative and unique dishes, wonderful service, and a great space with nice ambience. Will be back!
Beautiful inside! Super cozy and clean. The breakfast sandwich and avocado toast were amazing. Mimosas are a must at brunch and they did not disappoint. Will definitely be returning!
Honestly i really like it here but his was a bad day. First off we had a reservation for 2. I got in at 1:55 and waited til 2:10 for someone just to acknowledge us. And the person who finally did watched us walk in and prodceded to do something else anyway. Then when he sat us he took us through three tables that were connected so we couldn’t even walk to our table, he kept weaving in and out it was literally the most ridiculous 3 minutes he must’ve been high. Then our drinks just never came. Took us 8 mins to order and they never even came. Again I liked black barn and came a lot but your staff on a Sunday no less was horrible. Every moment of the meal was just done to the least of this companies capabilities.
An absolutely lovely interior environment, although the setting came at the price of acoustics, as our relatively compact table of three had difficult carrying on conversation. We came for brunch, and the menu was both creative and satisfying, food and drinks both delicious.
Great place for delicious food. A bit pricy though so not an everyday kind of place but the food is worth it.
This place is delicious. The staff takes extra care of you. Every detail of this place is impeccable. Must go!
The disappointing thing about this place was that after the appetizers which we thought were really good the main courses fell flat on their face. Ribs looked better than they tasted and the pastas were not good, very heavy-dense. . If I go back I would just have cocktails which are decent and split a couple of appetizers because there’s nothing worthwhile beyond that.
2nd time there - 1st time was for brunch a month ago
This time was a Saturday night dinner celebrating my daughter’s birthday
The Vibe, Decor, location is outstanding
Server was very nice but very busy with too many tables so not as attentive as I had expected
I had to ask twice to get a bread basket
Ordered $100 bottle of wine and I should have been asked if I wanted it decanted - I wasn’t but had to ask
Only reason I bring this up is the price point of this place is not cheap and service should match level of pricing
Was at Union Square Cafe last week and wow ! The Service and Food was a 10! and price points quite similar
Food was good
Seared tuna excellent
Arctic Char a bit too salty and dry
Beef Ribs good
Dessert of French soufflé was average but not a real soufflé
I would go back but temper my expectations a bit
We ate before a show so the restaurant was nearly empty but the food was wonderful. A very unusual menu but superb
Love the brunch, second time here and still amazing.
I usually go with my mom to enjoy the brunch in the front seating area of the restaurant to listen to the three piece jazz band. The music level is low enough to have a quiet conversation. This time I sat in the back of the restaurant,. More family friendly, lights are on brighter, and music is playing in the background.
The food here never disappoints, and I ALWAYS get the cauliflower steak. It is delicious and mom gets the indulgent shrimp and grits...a little too heavy for me but delicious as well. I will keep coming back to this place. Brunch for 2 with coffee and two pellegrinos and pancakes came to 107$. Yes, expensive for brunch, but keep an eye out for their PULSD deals.
We waited a good 20 minutes after being seated for someone to acknowledge us. I had the NY strip and prawn and the steak was quite chewy. The truffle Mac & cheese that came with the steak was outstanding however. My husband had the chicken and it was quite tender and moist.
