   The restaurant was closed. The city of Edmonton shut them down. Not open for business, closed permanently. Take them off your app!!

   Liked the website message, close to Rogers and wanted to support local. Went for supper with some friends prior to the Saturday Oilers game Saturday. We were the only table there except for a couple and 2 hors before game. Waitress was friendly and quick to ask for our drink order. 30 minutes for our drinks...said "beer keg was not working" we didn't order beer? Nothing unique, just simple drinks. One of my friends glasses were dirty, had to wait again and another's Moscow mule was so full of "cinnamon" he could drink it. Food came out about 40 m later. Great wings, everything else dried out including mussels and baby back ribs. Had to ask for plates, and bucket for scraps? Running late for game, paid up and left. Could have been an off night, but felt like it was par for the course. Too bad, thought we stumbled on a good playofff spot!

   Do not eat here. I used to really enjoy eating at The Hat and was sad when it closed during the pandemic. When looking for a place to eat downtown recently I noticed The Black Ship had taken over, looked at the menu, and was excited that the menu was the same as The Hat! Well. Do not be fooled. I ordered the California chicken burger with salad, same thing I've had several times before when it was The Hat. It was awful. I took one dubious bite, choked it down and that was it for me. The chicken was boiled, the bun was hard on the bottom (I couldn't even cut through it), what used to be a slab of feta was instead 1cm cubes of feta (basically impossible to eat on a burger). The "citrus glaze" that would typically be on the chicken as a...Glaze...was instead clearly from a jar and dumped (cold) on top. There was pineapple which was maybe new! But it was from a can or maybe from one of those little fruit cups I send to school with my kids. The salad. It was romaine lettuce (center hard parts only), some weird looking bacon bits, and powdered Kraft-type parmesan cheese. Apparently this is their house salad as it came with ranch dressing (I did not specify what type I wanted, only that I wanted it on the side please). When I told the waitress I'd never seen a salad like that in a restaurant ever I was informed it's because the salad dressing wasn't On the salad. My dining partner ordered Poutine. When it arrived it was cold. Why it was cold I'm unsure as there was only one other diner in the restaurant. We each had 1 bite, asked for the cheque and left. Then ordered something else for lunch on the way back to the office.

   I’ve always loved this restaurant. New ownership is excited to keep the tradition of the location alive!
