Black Sheep Restaurant
Black Sheep is a great restaurant. The service is almost always excellent and this trip was no exception. Our waiter was great, personable and prompt.
We had multiple happy hour cocktails which were of high quality and delivered quickly. The happy hour drinks are a great value. The Dusty Boot is my favorite and I hope it never leaves the menu.
The food was good and tasty. The kitchen at Black Sheep is one of the best in Jacksonville.
However the price for the food, even for the happy hour items, is getting out of hand. I have visited Black Sheep since they have opened. I’ve watched the pricing on the food increase over time and several items are now 30-50% higher than they were several years ago. Vegetable sides for dinner are now $7-8 dollars. A large salad is $14. These items used to be $5 and $10. The cheapest sliders for happy hour are $9. There is less meat on all three sliders combined than would be in a single small sandwich.
The cheapest main for dinner is a $15 burger WITHOUT CHEESE. A slice of cheese is $1. One. Dollar. So $16 for a cheese burger and some shoestring fries. I know it’s grass fed beef but still! It’s obscene.
If someone at Black Sheep is reading this, please, work on that menu and the pricing. You have slowly priced a loyal customer out of visiting your restaurant. You have good food but the value is no longer there. You have competition now, even in your own neighborhood. I love your restaurant and want you to win me back.
We had the mussels which were ok, but the oysters and the short ribs were delicious. We were traveling from MD to Tallahassee, and called to see if there was a dress code because we were on the toad. We were told to come as we were, true hospitality answer, specially after arriving and seeing how nice the place was.
Great food , atmosphere and service. We asked for a few specifics and were accommodated perfectly!
Great location. Food is overrated and menu is kinda boring.
Go to restaurant when you do not know what you want to eat. The menu and drinks are changing, introducing a nice variety. There are some standard items, poutine and wedge salad that are always on point. Covered patio on the roof is a great hang out and adds to the charm of the place.
The food and service were exceptional. We were a group of four and everyone ordered different dishes. Salmon, fried Chicken special, Korean ribs, and a pork sandwich. All were outstanding! After dinner, we also checked out the rooftop bar- very chic! Loved it and will go back!
Had a phenomenal meal!! Started with the poutine which was every little bit of alright. My wife had the chicken and Brussels sprouts over butternut squash puree with biscuits and I had the chicken and homemade pasta. For dessert, my wife had the chocolate snack cake and I had the banana ice cream fundae. Kevin was our server and he was outstanding. The only thing I could say that needed improvement was our choice of wine, but that was on us. We picked Spanish verdejo to go with our chicken dishes and it did not pair well. Other than that, an awesome meal and we will be back!!
Let's start with the good... the bartenders were personable and attentive. Now with the bad... for Black Sheep and Orsay to be owned by the same people and have comparable prices, there are night and day differences (food, ambiance, service). I have not had a good meal in multiple visits so Black Sheep is officially off the date night list. Orsay is head and shoulders above!
Food tasted good, as expected. Service was solid. The price was off, far too expensive for what was received. For example, $18 for seared scallops, only 2 scallops...
Food was good. Ambiance is a nice classy one. Love the ambiance upstairs as well. Service was excellent which is always a plus. Great experience over all.
Very hip place with a cool drink menu and great brunch. Nice that they serve brunch on a Saturday and that they take reservations. The rooftop bar is very cool and can’t wait to spend some time up there!!
Great Service. Excellent food but a bit pricey in my opinion. Can get rather loud
The food is delicious as are the drinks. The roof top bar is excellent and remains very warm on cooler nights. Service/staff were a bit stiff and slow for having just a few tables and were not thanked by staff/host as we were leaving, perhaps it was an off night but we felt like an after thought and not well received as customers.
I am willing to assume that Black Sheep was having a bad day since all the reviews I had seen before going were good. I chose it for lunch with an old high school friend who was visiting based on its reputation despite never having eaten there myself. His wife and I both chose the Spaghetti alla Chittara. The pasta was gummy and broccoli pesto was an unappetizing oily mess. This was mainly a social get together with someone I had not seen for a long time so I really didn’t want to make an issue of the food otherwise I would have sent it back to the kitchen. My friend ordered shrimp and grits and the shrimp were overcooked and the grits sort of pasty. My husband had the hamburger which was definitely the safety play as the French fries were excellent and the burger was acceptable. Nice atmosphere, nice server but I will not be hurrying back.
Our party of 5 were celebrating my brother-in-laws’ birthday. He and his wife are very experienced travelers who were pleasantly surprised to find some of their favorite wine on the extensive wine list. The two bottles we shared were excellent. Additionally, each of our meals were perfectly prepared. Two of us had the Green Hill Ravioli which I thought was some of the best I have ever eaten. The salads were fresh and full of tasteful veggies/lettuce. The other entrees were also excellent including the Alaskan salmon. The service was also excellent, including the personal presentation of the wine.
this is a favorite destination for brunch. we are always out on the rooftop area so the noise is minimal. Food is delicious, drinks are wonderful and the service is fantastic.
Excellent food and environment. Service was outstanding while wait was minimal.
My wife and I had a phenomenal dinner. I had the short ribs, she had the pork chop and they were both wonderful. Looking forward to going back when I get a chance.
Excellent food! Superior service! What more could you ask for. It was wonderful.
Amazing food in an outstanding atmosphere with a top notch staff. It’s the perfect date night destination for any night. And do yourself a favor and ask for the rooftop dining area.
Food was amazing! The service was poor from our waitress and we had to constantly ask other waiters for help. The waitress lacked a sense of urgency and follow up. I love Black Sheep & would recommend bc of many previous Great experiences overall but definitely not bc of service experience on Valentine’s.
Everything was good except French fries were too salty to eat. That was disappointing.
This is the stand out restaurant in that area of Jacksonville. I'm super glad we made this choice while traveling through.
My gal pals and I decide to do an early galentines day brunch the weekend before and let me tell ya! The server was superb and had some amazing drink recommendations. The food came out fast and fresh. Around the table, we got omelettes, biscuits and gravy, monte cristo, fingerling potatoes, and the pimento cheese plate. Everything was up to par! We topped it off with some heavens gate cocktails on the rooftop. Would 10/10 recommend for any occasion any day!
Shawn/Sean, was by far phenomenal and assisted in making our anniversary great. The service was amazing and the food OMG wonderful! Would Highly recommend!!!!
Solid as usual
Always have great meals at Blacksheep but the service does need improvement. We waited forever just to even get our drinks. And 2 of our 5 sat before us and no one ever even checked on them to see if they wanted anything while they waited on us other 3.
music was too loud but server was awesome and food was outstanding
A varied menu executed quite well. Every item we tried was a winner. Crispy duck risotto, outstanding mac and cheese, unique fried olives, melt-in-your-mouth pulled pork...on and on. Attentive and friendly service. Terrific atmosphere! Go and enjoy.
Excellent meal with very good service. Very nice ambiance.
I ordered the lamb tagine. It was very good but needed to be hotter.
We sat on the rooftop for brunch. My porchetta and eggs were delicious especially the homemade biscuit.
Best first date ever
We waited 15 minutes at our table to get drink orders. When we finally ordered our drinks and appetizers, we waited another 20-30 minutes for our appetizer. The guy went to go check on the appetizer and our dinner was with it. Also, the whole time we kept receiving other people orders. Our appetizer of sea scallops was $18 for 2 scallops which is absolutely ridiculous. The Koran short ribs were really good but I had to change to my side from grits to baby potatoes (dairy allergy). When my ribs arrived, my side item was French fries which is not what I asked for. My girlfriends ribeye was covered in so much butter you couldn’t taste anything else. The ribeye was 50% gristle and very chewy. I was super disappointed because all my friends and family love this place.
Great Sunday brunch at Black Sheep. I had the deviled eggs and avocado toast and a mimosa! The only hitch was when the staff tried to seat 12 of us at a smaller table - we ended up requesting a small table to add to the end so everyone had a spot. Would have preferred to have all of that sorted before trying to sit down. After that, everything went smoothly. Would eat here again.
Food and service we're great. No complaints. I'll be back.
Love the roof top terrace...especially on a day like today
The crullers are excellent donuts-a little heavy to be a cruller golden milk latte is great but had to add my own coffee, why its named a latte?? So guess i had a problem with their descriptions of menu items. Busy Sunday brunch visit. Saw all ages there. Ice cream on the menu was excellent
