Black Rock - Portage - PRIORITY SEATING
Due to our high volume and traffic, we cannot hold tables for parties like a reservation system. We have a system called Priority Seating. This system secures a table within our restaurant, however, it does not guarantee an exact seat by time. Priority is placed on your party, and if we are on a wait, your party is placed on top of the wait list as a priority. We will seat you as fast as possible, but cannot guarantee an exact time. If the restaurant is not busy, we will seat the party upon arrival.
- Surfaces sanitized between seatings
- Common areas deep cleaned daily
- Digital, disposable or sanitized menu provided
- Limited number of seated diners
- Distancing maintained in common areas
- Extra space between tables
- Waitstaff wear masks
- Diners must wear masks unless eating or drinking
- Sick staff prohibited in the workplace
- Staff temperature check required
- Contact tracing information collected
Priority seating was for 7:15pm. Received a text around 7:50pm. Food was great!
Mother’s Day meal.
Took family from out of town and they loved it! Will visit again.
We ate here on a busy Saturday evening, Western Graduation, and prom. We waited 20 minutes for our priority seating not bad at all.
April is a very attentive server. Our glasses never ran out and our food was service was prompt and correct the first time.
The restaurant itself was exceptionally clean and the ambiance was great. Our server was attentive and helpful.
1: The reservation was essentially pointless as we were seated after walk-ins.
2: We were told to wait at the bar and then told to leave the bar because a large group had taken all the chairs (a violation of their own policy and because we were standing we were asked to leave the bar.
3: We went to the area by the hostesses, looked on our phones for about five minutes, were then asked to leave and wait outside the building (no signs or any inform prior, just attitude from hostesses)
4: Finally called for a table 45 minutes after reservation time, I asked to speak to a manager. I was ignored.
5: when I talked to our waitress (who was otherwise very good) I explained what happened and she said ‘it sounds like this has been a rough one for you’. She offered us a free desert the next time we visited even after we stated that we were from out of town.
6: Also got splashed in the face with boiling hot garlic butter from their bubbling shrimp when it flashed at the table.
7: the manager did stop by for less then 5 seconds with a ‘good to see you’, he obviously was told nothing about all the BS that happened during the night… he proceeded on before I could respond.
This place is a personnel disaster and the food was mediocre. I would avoid it until they can get their act in order.
Over hyped. First time there for us. Food was very ho--hum. Steak was small for its price and was somewhat grisly. I was the only one at the table who did the rock thing. It was OK but if I had to do it over I probably wouldn't do it. We initially had a young man ask if we wanted a beverage before dinner. We asked to see a wine list. He simply pointed at a barcode sticker on the table and told me to scan it. (I did and could still not see any wine choices). We never saw him again and about 15 minutes later a waitress showed up and was very helpful. It's noisy unrelaxing atmosphere and very pricy. No thanks.
Hostess was rude. Told us we could not wait inside for our table, so we waited in our car. When we went inside to be seated, there were a bunch of people waiting inside to be seated. So apparently it was only our group that wasn’t welcomed inside....
Very good experience. Tasty food and good waiter.
18th birthday party
Food was good, rib eye could have been more tender.
Couple that came in after us (at the bar) got acknowledged and served before us. Had to flag bartender down to ask to order and ask for a 2nd drink. Over all not very attentive.
We had a great dinner. Our table had a combination of both cooked food and cooking at the table. The food was good and plenty of space between tables.
Had priority seating for 7:30 and still had to wait 30 minutes before we were seated, not sure what the benefits of the priority seating are if you are still waiting that long.
Service(Sophia) was great!! Food was good.
Great food! We were seated in a reasonable amount of time.
Great food. Great service. Covid protocols followed
I enjoyed the outing it was 3 couples and we really enjoyed our dinner and being able to socialize with our friends.. thank you for your great hospitality.
Service was awful. Food came before appetizers. Once that happened the waiter just kept walking by and never asked if we needed refills until we were almost done eating. It would have been better if he was super busy, but he kept walking right past us.
Always good food and experience. Did have to wait a short time even with priority seating reservation.
Excellent food but would not recommend priority seating. We still waited 50 minutes for our table.
Food was excellent. The sizzling on the rock is novel but the added smoke in the restaurant is questionable.
super good food, always have a nice dinner and a nice time!
Food was excellent and the wait time was better than usual.
I love this concept because you cook the meat to your own preference. I also love the side sauces that make the steak taste out of this world! I am eating keto and it's easy to stay on my diet and still enjoy dining out!
Our sever was great! It was our first time ever and we’ll be back!
Had date night with the wife and we really enjoyed or time there together, we had to wait about 10 minutes for seating, the service and food was excellent. The only thing I wish for is that the meal wouldn't of come out so quick, we hadn't finished our salads yet and the meal was already there, but its hard to complain about fast service. Still a wonderful date night with the wife.
We love Black Rock and will definitely go back, the priority seating was very helpful and a must for this restaurant.
Great service very good food awesome server. Bathrooms are not great.
My wait was a hour and 15 minutes past my reservation time which is kind of ridiculous
EVERYTHING was awesome! Food, drink and service. One of our favorite places in Kalamazoo.
Soooo good!! Long, long wait. But totally worth it!!
My server, April, was super fast and attentive. My order was correct the first time and my drink wasn't ever empty! Will definitely be requesting her on my next visit.
I got there and advised I had priority seating. They told me it would be 15-20 minutes for my table for 2 people. Then I was told I couldn’t wait in the lobby and to go to my car. We all had masks on, so why do I need to wait in my car?? This should have been advised to me when I made the reservation because I would have cancelled. Then I had to wait 25 minutes for a table which was longer than I was told. I ordered a 6oz. filet mignon with mushrooms. The mushrooms never showed up and I’ve never had a more tough, hard to cut filet mignon. The experience was not good.
Great food and drinks. The pretzels and cheese fondue are so good. The strawberry fields salad is excellent and I don't usually like salads. I also enjoyed the 6 oz. sirloin and cooked it on the black rock. It's a unique experience and so many great choices.
Priority seating still took over an hour!! Even though a table was behind us (not a distance table) empty for 45 minutes! The hostess was not helpful and seemed to be bothered
Our meals were great as always. Waited over 1 hour to be seated. Gal at the desk said it would only be 10 mins and claimed to text saying we were ready to be seated but never did. Server was very nice, but seems she was attentive to only certain other tables.
The wait even with priority seating was an hour. But as they pointed out, w/o priority seating the wait was 2 hours and a half. The food was great as usual. Our server was wonderful, very attentive.
I would have given 5 stars but we waited an hour to get to our table even with the priority seating. They said 30 minutes but it was almost an hour.
