Black Rock - Portage - PRIORITY SEATING
Due to our high volume and traffic, we cannot hold tables for parties like a reservation system. We have a system called Priority Seating. This system secures a table within our restaurant, however, it does not guarantee an exact seat by time. Priority is placed on your party, and if we are on a wait, your party is placed on top of the wait list as a priority. We will seat you as fast as possible, but cannot guarantee an exact time. If the restaurant is not busy, we will seat the party upon arrival.
Enjoy our NEW lunch menu with our soup and salad combos. Quick in and out expert service for a wonderful lunch experience. Also enjoy our happy day drink prices!

Great experience! Highly recommend to make a reservation because of its popularity!!
Ok first it’s a Saturday so I will let you judge from there. We had the opentable waitlist for 6:45, so thought we’d check in early at 6:30, which I think worked but still we didn’t sit down until 7:30. Lots of big groups so it was really loud and we were seated out in the “garage” area. One thing when walking in the restaurant the floors are super slick. So we were seated, waitress was there in a reasonable time got drink orders then took food orders when she returned. Then it was 35 mins before she returned, no idea where she went but was clear she had expected our app to be there. It wasn’t and my drink was empty. During this time while she was away I watch 4 other tables that were seated after us, get the same app delivered to their table. Once she realized that there was a problem she acknowledged, and went to go chase it down 15+ mins later she returned with the missing app and explained it’d be free (yippee and I’d hope so after all this). I asked to speak to the manager to which she explained that the waitress was new and it was likely the waitresses fault (really?). No offer to do anything else other than we would receive the same level of service as everyone else. Sure!
Food: Well the pretzel app when it showed up was good, the shrimp were good, the steak was meh. I guess I can only blame myself as I was the one cooking. I will stay that the process it weird and requires coordination I don’t have. The slab of meat comes on the brick, and you need to cut it up in to bites to cook it. I’d say high top tables isn’t the best for this. The dishes aren’t really conducive to cutting either prior to the meat going on the brick again. I will say with that many people cooking, they do need to work on ventilation.
Overall, neat concept, bad execution. This a go to once and don’t really think I’ll return again.
My family went to Black Rock to celebrate my birthday. What a fun ,new experience. There is something for everyone on the menu. We will definitely be back!
Great concept with high quality meat and seafood choices
Baked potatoes came out cold, my daughter’s steak was over cooked. Not a cozy comfortable place.
My boyfriend and I went to Black Rock for the first time on our two year anniversary. The service was friendly and the food was incredible. I think I have a new favorite restaurant.
Food, and the whole experience was amazing definitely recommend. Our server Darrin was amazing, his level of service was second to none !!
Very busy on Saturday nights. Service very friendly but a tad slow. Food good didn't try cooking our own steak maybe next time.
Food is always good and atmosphere is fun and lively. We love the pretzels and goat cheese platter as well as the steaks!
Another great meal
Food was awesome
Still had to wait 35 mins for a table. Would expect to be seated in 10-15 minutes using priority seating.
We were seated immediatley and the wait staff was excellent and very friendly and a lot of fun.
Great food and great service as always, .
We were visiting our daughter who is in college and she wanted a good meal. The meal was very good.
It was ok but not great! The lobster dip was pretty bad. Greasy puddles and too salty by far!! The cooking on a stone was cool.
Everything was good except the 1st service person at the Bar area was not friendly and did not smile. Another young lady came to help us and she was great! Smiled very informative on product and is an asset to your Company. The only thing with the food was I order a an up charged side and it was prepared incorrect.
We were greeted promptly and the host let us know we would have a 10-minute wait (Hint: Use Open Table for Priority Seating during busy periods).
Server was friendly, attentive and helpful in explaining the process. Courses were served promptly and all were delicious.
Great place for a special event.
The service, food, and overall experience was great.
Priority seating is a joke. Had reservation for 6:45, arrived 6:40 and advised it would be a 20 minute wait.
Wait area was full. Others who had reservations also had to wait and were also very unhappy. parking lot was full and had to park in an adjacent hotel parking lot, where we waited for text for a table. 20 minutes later texted that table was ready walked back and advised table was given to someone else "because our response was not timely" 5 minutes later we we were taken to table.
Our Waiter was the ONLY positive experience. The Black Rock was nothing more than a heated cement brick. A complete novelty/gimmick to get business. Lobster bisque was a cup of tatseless orange white flour with a dry lobster claw that needed to be cracked and placed in the flour mixture. Spinach/apple/strawberry salad with candied pecans ( more like candied gravel).
We have had nothing but great experiences with Open Table and we would highly recommend this restaurant be removed from your list. WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING AND WILL RECOMMEND TO OUR FAMILY/FRIENDS NOT TO GO!
love this place!
best apps, best steaks and fast service.
we go here whenever we have a craving for a good steak.
Smokey when you have a lot of other guests dining and ordering from the cook your own option. Good service, large portions, multiple TVs to watch the game!
Normally I would give a five to Black Rock because it is one of my favorites. But this time I put in for 6:00 priority seating. We arrive at 5:55 and checked in. They were telling people that just walked in 40-45 minutes. We waited 30 minutes with priority seating. We ordered our meal when she took the drinks because we had 3 other stops to make before they closed. It took quite a while for our meal also. We barely made it to our last stop before they closed.
Noise level is high but i think it should be as people are enjoying themselves
Our grandsons love Black Rock. We booked it for a birthday, but there was no acknowledgement of the birthday—we bought dessert. Cocktail prices are high. Hard to mess up the food when you cook it yourself. Cocktail sauce should be an option with shrimp. Side of asparagus was four Spears. Very noisy & smoky.
We were seated immediately, Our waitress was very helpful, it was obvious she knew what the common questions were and she answered them before we even had to ask. We started with the onion ring tower, they were the best onion rings we had ever had, both dipping sauces were fantastic. The main course was amazing, the sauces that go on the stone were perfect with the steaks we had ordered. Great flavor, tender and good portions. The baked potato was fantastic. And... We finished the evening with the volcano brownie. Amazing!!!. We gave it our best shot but couldn't finish it. Overall it was one of the best experiences we had ever had in a restaurant.
Maybe the filters in the vent fans need changing. Extremely smokey in the dining room this time.
super easy check in. Priority seating saved us a really long wait. The lobster was super salty this time thus the 4 stars on the food. Other wise everything else was great.
Overall enjoyed it. Food was wonderful, server was very nice and helpful. A little noisy. Would recommend it to friends and definitely come back.
Great food, was a wait but we got in with priority seating in about 15 minutes. Others had 45 min to an hour wait. It was a Saturday evening so that's to be expected. Server was kind and helpful, food took a little longer than it should have to come out but they made sure we were good on drinks. Also asked if we wanted more pretzels for our appetizer to help out. We will be coming back.
The food was phenomenal. Priority seating cut our wait time compared to everyone else in half. We had a great waiter and had no issues. Everything we tried was really good! The experience with the rock was really cool. We will be back. 👍☺️
We enjoyed our experience at the Portage Black Rock. The only issue we had is we were sat in a both by the bar and there were 5 of us. We only had our salads for 5 minutes before our dinners came out. Needless to say the plates/stones made it very crowded and we were nervous about our kids accidentally touching a hot plate or stone. The young lady at the front wasn’t in the best mood either. She was a little rude both on the phone and when we arrived. The gentleman was a lot nicer and very friendly.
Steak was amazing. Great waiter experience. Would not hesitate to go back!
Priority seating worked real well. We had a 6:30 seating celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary. We clicked the special occasion circle when booking our time and nothing was noted, so this is worthless to have on the priority seating page. The meal we had was less than average. Kobe sirloin for my wife and regular sirloin for me. I realize this is not a great cut of meat, but you should be able to cut through without much effort and no membrane running throughout. The side dishes were great, but service to fast. We just got drinks and salad and our food came and created a conjested mess on our table. I think turnarounds are very important here. We both agreed we may try Black Rock again, but this time disappointed.
Dinner with our daughter who is away at college.
Food was amazing and a fun change to going out for dinner.
Food is great! Staff is very friendly and we never had to ask for a refill on drinks.
Food was great, service a little slow.
Our waiter Moon was incredible! It’s hard to find such good service as he gave.
One of the best dinners my husband and I had in years! Loved the whole experience with the lava rock to cook our steaks. Great place to celebrate our 25th Anniversary!
