What Insiders Are Saying
Black Rabbit Rose is part bar, part magic show and all things very cool.
The decor was absolutely stunning, the musical entertainment amazing, and the food was tasty and filling, making it worth the pricey side
For a group that love and have eaten a lot of Thai food we were disappointed . The food was bland / not spicy and sometimes pre-made . There was a large party so they didn’t have somethings and somethings came out so fast that we were getting parts of the back up party food . Drinks were great . Great Decor ! Service was quick . No one came to us to do magic even thou the server said we would have that .
Also we heard about the magic show and the server laughed we we asked if we could go . She said it was sold out and looked at us like we’d asked to go the oscars. —-Biggest pet peeve..... Gratuity is included and she didn’t tell us at the end . It’s dark in there . I work in the restaurant industry in NYC ...... you tell people that if you do that .
This place is SO awesome!!! It's hard to tell if it's a "hidden gem" of Hollywood or if that's the complete draw of it, because although it's on Hollywood Blvd. (with the same owners' speakeasy bar "No Vacancy"--also cool--behind it), it is pretty low-key from the outside. Inside, it's dimly lit and feels like a 20s speakeasy with American cocktails and pretty good Thai food from Crying Tiger (who has a pickup window visible from the outside). The food is priced pretty decently for LA, but the best part was the magic show my boyfriend and I attended in the hidden theatre. They had a variety of performers doing card tricks to interact with the audience, a singer doing Edith Piaf and other things (I won't spoil anything, you should experience it yourself). They have witchy cocktails that fizz and mist and the space is actually an old Prohibition spot Hollywood stars used to hide out in. Will definitely be coming back this summer with family.
One of my favorite places in Hollywood, nice ambiance and the food is ok.
Magician was awesome service was awesome we had a great time. We definitely will revisit.
It was my birthday celebration
Fun atmosphere, yummy food, creative drinks, and excellent service. Our waitress Amber K was especially knowledgable and paid attention to detail.
Everyone was great and the food was yummy! The magician was an added bonus!
Had a great time here the other night celebrating my fiancé’s birthday. The food was pretty good but smaller portions and the drinks were good but pricey. The service was good and fast. The show itself was very entertaining and the tricks were amazing. Overall we had a really good time here.
First date. Good atmosphere.
Small tapas plates, good food. I'll go to the show next time.
Wonderful environment, great music and food. Cocktails were fabulous and the magician was amazing. A fun evening had by all.
Was great. it was for Chinese New Year, we went there . People were so so nice the food were so good. We will go there again
We had an outstanding dining experience. They also have a theater where they have an amazing magic show and music on some nights. Buy show tickets in advance. You will have a great time.
I went with friends to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We had dinner and drinks and also saw the Magic Show (got the VIP tickets). All of it was wonderful! I’ve been to the Magic Castle a couple of times and I love it there- this reminds me of it, just less formal. The magic show is magic castle quality plus it includes other elements such as singing, fire eating, etc. The room you are in for the show was said to be a former speak easy. It has the old Hollywood feel for sure with an aura of mystique. I’d definitely go again!
I loved the atomsphere here, amazing.
The service was super duper and the hand crafted drink I had was superb.
I stayed and watched the magic show which was outstanding.
Go Go Go
So using open table not a good idea. I used it and then contacted by black rabbit rose and I was informed I had to change my time slot reservation because open tables time slots don't coordinate with the restaurants set reservations time slots of 6, 8, or 930pm. Therefore my party of 6 ended up dining in the lobby which was uncomfortable and crowded once people lined up for the show. And we were given the check when some of us were still eating and others wanted to order more, as if they were kicking us out. So use the restaurants reservation online directly. I've never been to a lounge were I was rushed to leave. Place is small to eat or mingle, don't recommend large parties or planning to stay longer than an hour dining, but nice ambiance. This place is great if you bought tickets to see their magic show and want quick bite eats. Strolling magician, Ro B, was very entertaining. If we're not for the magicians spending time at or tables this would have gotten 3 stars. Overall would have been a better experience if the owners fix open tables error of inaccurate time slots.
This is definitely a place you need to try! The food tastes great and the ambiance was nice for a friends dinner. I wasn’t too fond of the drinks. They were very unique, just didn’t quite enjoy the taste. The food was delicious, but they run out of ingredients pretty quickly and thus you have to wait an hour for them to make your items, no matter how long you are into your dinner service. The food is served tapas style, so one I would recommend to order a bunch of different foods and share among the table. The servers are not very attentive, so we probably would have spent more money if they had given us better service. Make sure you get tickets for the magic show, it’s incredible! We spent about $300 for 6 people.
Simply the Best
Was removed from our table for a celebrity couple. I can’t even.
I made a reservation on open table which when we arrived they couldnt honor (no tables available). We were told they were sold out for a few days already and they said opentable doesnt have a cutoff.
We were then offered a table in the lobby of the connected venue or the patio, which had tables but no chairs, so we chose one of the two available tables in the lobby.
As the venue staff was getting ready for a magic show that night, the lobby had quite a bit of traffic which was fun to people watch. However, it took the staff a while to take our orders and get us waters & drinks as we were in such a hidden spot.
We ordered a couple of cocktails and small plates items which were ok.
The water came a bit later served in a bottle and 2 glasses which one was cracked and the other one still had lipstick from the previous guest on it, so we kindly asked to get a new set. When the check came we were surprised to see a 20% gratuity added automatically and I asked if thats always the case at this restaurant, which the waitress confirmed.
Our overall experience at that point was a bit disappointing, however when one of the owners noticed us in the corner spot and asked about it, I informed him of some of the things noted above and he wasted no time and asked the waitress to send us 2 drinks on the house and offered his apologies which we accepted with gratitude.
This is a really cool bar with a great ambience which we loved and we will definitely come back for drinks, but there is a lot of room for improvement if their goal is to offer a dining experience as well.
We loved Black Rabbit Rose. We are huge fans of everything the Houston Brothers creates. The food from crying tiger was totally delicious and perfectly complemented by the great inventive cocktails. We saw the show after and found it charming. We will definitely be back. What a great date night.
The magic show was very entertaining, which is why we went. The food and service lacked. There was only one bartender to work the entire restaurant during dinner and the drink service lagged. But, all in all, we had a great time and would go back again.
We'd probably do drinks and dinner somewhere else beforehand and stick to a few drinks during the magic show.
Very stylish and romantic atmosphere of the 1930s speakeasy. Great cocktails! Very fun magic show after dinner in the next room.
Amazing experience. Very special place
Really enjoyed this place. The show was a lot of fun and the food was fantastic.
They did not provide appropriate seating. They gave us a seat for 1 PERSON and tried to push 2 of us in there. I had show tickets as well, but they would not reseat us and I asked for refund for show which they said they would give and I NEVER RECEIVED A REFUND. I emailed and called but they ignored my request. They are a rip off
magic and mystery just down the street from the Castle. funny and provocative banter and fun tricks. a bit of sunshine & fun with great food and cocktails to boot.
OMG - this place rocks! The food was amazing. I would drive 10,000 miles for the orange tamarind chicken (adult chicken nuggets) and chicken shiu Mai. Its from the restaurant next door 🚪 Crying Tiger.
The show was pure old Hollywood mystery and cheekiness.
There's very few places that deliver the complete package for a date night.
Black Rabbit Rose 🌹 gets 10
While the food at Crying Tiger is rather exceptional, easily some of the best bar food in the country, perhaps the world, the experience of dining at Black Rabbbit Rose is about as bad as it gets in terms of service.
I don't think the service could possibly have been any slower, and this is not a large bar/restaurant. Time between order and receiving first food item + cocktails was about 45 minutes. We never received water, and continuously had to go get water from the bartender ourselves for the entire party of 5.
Despite multiple requests that the Phuket-style squid dish be made Thai spicy, it was marked "mild" on the receipt and was totally obvious when I got the dish, but no one was available for criticism. Fortunately, the dish is so expertly prepared by the kitchen that this dismal service did not keep it from being profoundly delicious.
It's rare to find such a mixture of great food and non-existent service.
We ended up tipping them probably around 50% because there was not really a specific mention of automatic gratuity. I suppose that they really take every liberty possible knowing they are getting money regardless of performance.
The food remains worth trying, but I would highly recommend sitting at the bar where a bartender can attend to you.
Love the overall theme. My boyfriend is a magician and I travel with him as his assistant so it was right up our alley. Loved that all the cocktails carried the theme referencing magic tricks. The Honey Bunny cocktail was super fun with the dry ice packet sending it bubbling like a cartoon cauldron. The Dark Magic cocktail was beautiful (hooray activated charcoal!) and the Smoke and Mirrors was a great recommendation for someone who generally shys away from saccharin sweet craft cocktails. Our waitress/bartender was cheerful and lovely. Wish we were in town to see a show in their little theater and that there was a little more interactive magic...but we were there pretty early and still had fun. Definitely coming back on a show night.
The food was terrific! And very reasonable! We ordered 8 of their small plates and 3 glasses of wine for the three of us and the bill only came to about $115! Had a lovely waitress named Montana. The atmosphere was a little funky and the tables had that sticky-varnish feeling but it didn't really detract from the experience!
Entertaining and tasty! We loved the Thai food and show!
I was expecting a restaurant but its a bar. A small bar and the seats are really close to each other. Other than being surprised it was a bar, I did think it was a really nice bar and well designed. The service was slow. We waited almost 30 mins for a drink. The food is tapa. Its pretty good food. I'd probably go back here.
Very nice ambiance and good food. Definitely will visit again soon. Good magic show too!
