Best swordfish my husband ever had, very fresh! Fish tacos, the house specialty, were excellent.
The service was excellent. They brought my husband the wrong meal but they were all over it. It was our first visit and we really enjoyed it. The food is fabulous. Five stars all around.
Placed a reservation 4 days in advance, still waited over 45 minutes for a table that night. Good food with moderately sized proportions, but poor service
Very good experance waiter was excellant!Love the fish tacos!! fish was excellant
Great Fish Tacos. I will definitely go back to this restaurant.
As always the Fish taco's are the go-to menu item. My group ordered the pork chops which were just OK, the Enchilada which was again, just OK and 2 Fish taco's which were excellent. The calamari appetizer was small and the presentation was not very appealing although it tasted fine with a very light breading.
Black Pearl is a noisy restaurant so if you are looking for quiet conversation this is not the place. The bar is an excellent date option however.
Our main purpose for the evening was to have oysters. Some were ok size but others were soooo small, we could only see the mantle of oysters. If all oysters are the same price, quality should be the same.
Also there were six of us and they put gratuity of 20 percent without informing beforehand.
We had pork too sweet and beef odd taste what they call creative.
We all felt ripped off.
We don't go there again.
The entire experience was great. I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere was superb.
I get that it is in the heart of Ann Arbor and when there is a Michigan Big Ten championship game on but when there are only less than 20 people in the room including staff, I would assume service would have been better. Took about 15 minutes after we sat down for the waitress to realize we were sitting at her section while we were watching her watch the game. The food was not worth the price. The pasta gone bayou's chicken tasted like it had spent a long time in the freezer. The cioppino's first 3 bites bits of sand, and for a seafood restaurant I would have expected the clams/muscles to have been thoroughly cleaned. When I mentioned it to the waitress all she did was shrugged and said it happens. For the price of the food I expected more especially in downtown Ann Arbor.
The food and service are good, but the restaurant is VERY noisy.
Took my boyfriend for his 33rd birthday as low-key date!
Black Pearl continues to impress. The microgreen salad is so tasty. Cocktails excellent. Andrew provided welcoming, refined service. Also, the importance of the manager stopping at each table to say hello and ensure all is going well can not be underestimated. A personal touch. Thank you, Michael!
Meet some friends
One of my best meals in Ann Arbor. Very nice menu options and excellent service!!
Best service, great drinks!! Quite date location.
Very good food, very good service. Seafood themed. Overall well worth it.
Excellent food and service. We'll definitely be returning!
Everything was good, had the tuna tar tar and the crab for appetizers. The fish tacos and the pork chop was great. That whipped sweet potato that came with the pork was amazing. The martinis are good, we recommend the chocolate and the orange martinis. It is dim lit with table lamps so good atmosphere for a date. Staff was friendly and informative of items on the menu. Overall good experience.
The burger and fish tacos are always winners! Don't miss out on their awesome appetizer selections. We always order a few to share for the group.
Such friendly staff and amazing food. We went with a large party and surprised my boyfriend for his birthday. The experience was perfect. Thank you !!
Great dinner, met my son and 3 of his friends for dinner. Great food and service, at a fair price!
The Black Pearl is a consistent "go-to" in the Ann Arbor Main Street scene. Great location, excellent ambiance, excellent food with a nice selection of "specials" on specific days. Service is always outstanding and they have a nice bar with an excellent selection of drinks.
The food and service were outstanding, especially if you like seafood. If you are in the mood for a drink, order one of their excellent cocktails. On the flip side, no beer on tap and somewhat disappointing wine menu. Could use a few more options on dessert too. But, overall the quality of the food make this place a must go in A2.
Fish tacos and cocktails were delicious. Avocado crab toast was extremely disappointing. Pasta Gone Bayou had nice flavor but just seemed like a mildly spicy mac n cheese. Wife was happy with the Cioppino. I will return for drinks and tacos but not much else.
Went once years ago and decided to go for my husband's and I's wedding anniversary because we were craving seafood. The oysters were fresh and delicious and shucked well. The scallops were amazing, cooked to perfection (I've had a few restaurants overcook scallops). We loved our cocktails. Great for a date!
Fortunately, we were seated in the back room; we had visiting friends in town and we wanted to have a conversation. The food was fabulous.
Good food, good service but too noisy! Had to shout to talk to each other!
The staff is friendly and willing to accommodate individual tastes. They never let your beverages run dry or even close to dry. Someone is always nearby to help you. The Pinot Gris is one of the best I've tasted. My wife and I each chose a different shrimp appetizer and loved them both - on with buffalo sauce and the other with house-made chips and guacamole. We each had the burger as our entree. The burger was infused with great spices and its out texture and flavor was nicely charred without being overdone. The bun was a brioche with a nice crunch to it. In the past, I've had their coffee-crusted filet mignon and it was exceptional. I've been to this place 5 times now and have never been delighted each time. I've a very selective foodie that arrives with high expectations and this place does not disappoint.
My friends and I have been to Black Pearl for Ann Arbor restaurant week before and really enjoyed it so we thought we would go back. Unfortunately, the restaurant week menu was so disappointing that they chose not to order from it. I did order from and did not enjoy my dinner and wished I too had ordered a burger. I would not go back after this experience
My husband and I had been wanting to go here for a long time. We made use of the Ann Arbor Restaurant week. All the menu items were delicious! I have celiac and my GF options were super tasty too, in fact it's safe to say that my GF entree was better than my husband's pasta :) Will surely go here again!
Love this venue for dinner!
Another good trip to The Black Pearl for restaurant week. Enjoyed the food (as always), good service, a little loud (as always). Will be back again.
Very good meal
Great service & drinks! Tacos are the best!
As everyone knows the fish taco's and drinks are fabulous...and happy hour gives you a nice variety of items! Always festive place to be!
The Black Pearl is a wonderful restaurant nestled on Ann Arbor's Main Street. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had the fish tacos and salmon and both were delicious. Highly recommend.
Great, creative cocktails.... the burger and fish tacos were super. We like to sit at the bar. Liz, the bartender, was enthusiastic and informative. Definitely would recommend The Black Pearl on A2!!
Great food and service! Loved the look of the place and the big fans were awesome
The food was alright, nothing was spectacular or extremely good. There were too many choices on the main entree menu.
The bar was good.
We love this place — the fish tacos are literally the best ever (and I do mean that literally). The space is super cool, and the big window makes for good people watching.
We went for Alexa’s birthday, and they even brought her a free dessert, which was awesome.
