Black Pearl Ann Arbor
They are known for their "fish tacos" but they were very underwhelming. My husband ordered those and I had the pork chop. It was very tough, had to really dig in to cut it. The chop came with mashed sweet potatoes that were so sweet it felt as if I was eating a pureed pumpkin pie. I will go back for a cocktail because I liked the list of options but probably won't return for the food.
We went here before a Michigan Football Game. We had a great time! Our waiter, Michael, was very attentive. Food was excellent and our drinks were good!
Family met for dinner. We have not seen each other for over 15 years. We made a reservation, and we spent $140. That was for three people. Apparently we overstayed our welcome. Mike, the manager, came over and asked us to leave. Although he was nice, he said he had too many reservations waiting and we needed to go. Considering we had spent quite a bit of money and we were not just having a drink, I was offended.it put a cloud on the evening to be sure. Also, I emailed him to express my concerns and he did not respond.
Service way slow
We went because it was the only place around that had oysters on the menu, since they are not in season. They were fantastic. Drinks were great and our server was very knowledgeable on all the drinks and food
Our server seemed overwhelmed, or maybe just in the weeds. He wasn't rude, but wasn't friendly either. This was the second time trying this place out for a birthday dinner. The food was good, but not overly impressed.
Excellent!! Thank you!!
Fish tacos and 10th anniversary tacos were excellent. The waiter was great.
Black Pearl is a find. Delicious, great service and outdoor dining weather permitting. The food and wine selection was great and creatively presented. The ingredients are deliciously fresh. The patio was wonderful as it was a warm Ann Arbor evening. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. Would recommend trying Black Pearl. The bar even looked really fun. The inside is dark, but hip and cool.
They did a fantastic job for our birthday celebration.
Oddly cheap with bread. Food tasty. Atmosphere nice. Cocktails delicious but when I asked for another piece of bread to dip in my main dish the waiter said he was not allowed to give me another piece, even for an extra fee. He came back later and said he spoke to manager and he can give me another type of bread for extra money and I waited and waited for it as my meal grew cold and he never brought it. He then told me they used to charge extra for ketchup and condiments!!! We were floored.
The food was great overall, the service was excellent and the cocktails and wine list are always delicious here. The only reason we didn't stay for a second bottle of half of wine was the outdoor seats are super uncomfortable, which is a shame because the ambiance was great. Inside it's too dark for the summer time.
Food was disappointing but the ambiance was good. Great place for happy hour drinks and appetizers. Great high top seating in bar area and sidewalk dining options.
We love the Pearl. It is one of our go-tos. Saturday night, for some reason, the kitchen may have gotten a little swamped? Anyway, we tried 2 new dishes that were fantastic....and we didn't have a problem, but I was glad I'd already had an appetizer because some folks waited quite a while for their food. I hope it was not their first experience, because Michael and all do a great job. Love.
The Black Pearl is a very nice restaurant and the service was great. The food was delicious. The only reason I didn’t rate it higher was that the menu is somewhat limited. I was planning to return the very next night, until I realized that I would have to order the same items.
We had a great meal and got to tour the indoor grow room where they grow their own microgreens!
Amazing food and service! Will definitely be back! I have a new favorite in Ann Arbor!
Love this place. Service is always excellent. Knowledgeable staff who care about the produce and cocktails. Very helpful. Excellent cocktail list, great food.
We only ordered from the starters and they were just ok, for the price we expected more. My husband order cocktails that were mixed poorly and tasted horrible. I ordered wine and it was fine just small pours.
The Black Pearl delivers really high quality food , beautifully prepared with a high degree of consistency and pretty close to perfect service.
One of the best spots in A2. Great and creative drinks. Excellent food and perhaps the best seafood in A2. Some favorites we routinely enjoy that are incredibly tasty:
Hip stir fry
FISH TACOS - If you like fish tacos, you must try these
And wash it all down with a promenade
Fish tacos are amazing! Also loved that martinis.
The staff accommodated us as it was very noisy, then sat outside and it started to rain, so then got us seats in a quitter area. Our server David was really good.
Visited Black Pearl during the annual Ann Arbor Art Fair! Knowing that restaurant seating would be at premium, checking OpenTable early is a must for this location. Great spot in heart of Ann Arbor Campus district. Dark/Moody interior makes a great date/evening stop. Selected outdoor seating available for people watching. Anticipated that the service would be slightly delayed due to the crowds and server coverage during this popular city event, my server Jonathan was terrific. Always checking in but not hovering and making great recommendations for specialty cocktails and his favorites on the menu! Enjoyed my trip down college-memory lane with a great meal at the Black Pearl!
Just great food, great service, would continue to go here every time I am in Ann Arbor.
Went to Black Pearl for my sons's 19th birthday. Had a reservation and scored a prime spot in the window that was great for people watching without having to eat outside (was a humid night!). Food was great, service was terrific!
We sat in the back room and it was very uncomfortable—too hot. Much cooler as we were exiting the restaurant.
We found this gem while walking around Ann Arbor..Great experience!
Server was very slow and unattentive. Extremely disappointing overall
Ordered the scallops ,3pc for 28 dollars biggest rip off I left starving
A lively Friday evening at the Pearl. Service was excellent, professional yet relaxed and cordial. Food was very good to excellent. Coconut shrimp and ribs appetizers outstanding. Tuna excellent. Specialty cocktails great. Always a good time at the well run Black Pearl.
We were a table of four, one person needed accessible accommodation. We were seated at a high top table which was what we requested. Our food guide (waitress), Megan, was excellent. She was very knowledgeable, and very accommodating to our wishes and needs. Wonderful service. The meals served were very high class and worth the anticipation. All in the party were extremely impressed. I would highly recommend this resturant.
Excellent food and service. Lots of large groups who were a bit loud. Thankfully they sat us in a booth away from groups.
Dinner was great, a little noisy, difficult to carry a conversation at times. Good was very good. Definitely worth a visit, wouldn't object to going back.
The food was good, but our waiter, Katrina, was so apathetic. Cold greetings, not very friendly, not super knowledgeable about food.
The Bread Situation:
She continually brought us bread, which we appreciated, until the bill came and she charged us a significant amount. The problem wasn't that she charged us. The problem was she never informed us. When we asked he to take it off she was rude and refused. Another waiter offered to take if off for us and, again, she refused. After, she didn't talk to us for the rest of the night. Not sure why she couldn't just take it off. [FYI: Bread is not on the menu]
A perfect night ruined over some bread.
Our Anniversary dinner and it was wonderful. Thank you so much for accommodating us for the patio seating. Felt like we had the best table in the house. Food was incredible as always.
We caught Restaurant Week at the Black Pearl, it was wonderful.
Fish tacos go $18 that are supposed to be the specialty were disappointing. I would much rather have the $10 fish tacos at World if Beers
thanks to Restaurant Week, we decided to eat at the Black Pearl. We were not disappointed and will return.
Awesome as always
