Black Pearl Ann Arbor
I love Black Pearl for dinner--it's one of my favorite places for dinner. But I was *not* impressed by their Sunday brunch. We had a party of 8 for Mother's Day, went there for brunch. The place was busy but not crowded; there were plenty of open tables. I was mildly disappointed that there wasn't anything special with it being Mother's Day. Also was disappointed that the menu was limited to their minimal brunch menu--most places I go to for brunch allow ordering from either.
However, those are minor complaints. My biggest problem was that the brunch menu itself is...kind of sad. Everything that came out was very small, not well-presented, and COLD. I had the Caprese Tartine, which had a very small amount of mozz cubes on it and COLD poached eggs. It had sat for a while. My husband's tacos were cold as well. I complained to the server, who brought me a new half of the Tartine with a barely cooked poached egg that was, though warm, barely cooked. Some mozz cubes. And none of the presentation or microgreens that had come with the original.
The "shareables" were pitiful looking. They came out looking like someone dumped a tablespoon of Sweet Potato Hash on a shallow bowl that was too big for it, making it look like someone had eaten half of it.
I was very disappointed; I expect far better from The Black Pearl and have never had such an unhappy experience there. I think the brunch menu needs some serious work on presentation, size, pricing, and actual items.
This is easily my favorite restaurant. The atmosphere is social yet intimate. The menu is diverse and the food is consistently exceptional (I especially appreciate chef’s thoughtful approach to appropriate portion size). As every diner knows, the staff can make or break your overall experience. The staff at Black Pearl has consistently elevated my experience at every visit. It ALL comes together here, which is why Black Pearl is my favorite restaurant in the area...and why I never hesitate to make the 50 minute drive to dine there.
Amazing experience, perfect way to celebrate my two year anniversary with my girlfriend!
Jonathan was an outstanding server! Very attentive and knowledgeable, loved his recommendations. Definitely will be back for the fish tacos and craft cocktails 🍸
it was just fine: the fish tacos - which we came in for - were HUGE portions. really too much. stuffed us. our server was the best part of our experience, she was patient, kind, and helpful. we'd come back for her!
Friendly staff and voguish design. The dimmed lighting provides just the right level of privacy and chill vibe.
The Black Pearl consistently has some of the best service in town. Congenial, kind, easy going, timely and knowledgeable staff. Food is also consistently good. Bartenders very capable and flexible. Was a little noisy on this visit. Often “vibrant” but tolerable. Coconut shrimp, tomato bisque, swordfish and salad with ginger vinaigrette, fabulous. Would like them to bring back the Wasabi Vinagrette! Always a nice time at the Black Pearl.
I really love this restaurant. Great food and drinks. Went on a Monday so it was half off bottles of wine and oysters. I got the fish tacos but they were slightly over-fried but still good. The tomato bisque was amazing!
Great cocktails and appetizers, everyting on the expensive side, entrees just good, not great. Not a value for the money but excellent service and nice atmosphere
The food is amazing. Love the scallops, oysters rockerfeller, and the fish tacos. This place never disappoints. I'll find any excuse to dine here, but especially great for special occasions.
Liz, Tony, and a guy who's name I can't remember are all amazing. I couldn't have asked for more (yet received more than I ever asked for). Truly spectacular.
It was our first experience at this restaurant even though we have been to Ann Arbor several times over last few years. I am not sure how it skipped my attention so far since I am always looking for seafood restaurants. To our delight it was an outstanding experience. Our server Johnathan was very friendly and helpful. Service was efficient. Cocktails were innovative and delicious. Food was exceptional especially fish tacos, sticky rib tips and Avocado crab toasts. Unfortunately we didn’t get to try desserts since we were in a rush to go for a show. Well that gives us another reason to go back and visit this restaurant again in near future.
The appetizer was fantastic (Rockefeller Oyster flatbread), but when the food came out, mine was cold but my husbands was hot. There was a small party going on at the table next to us and there were people standing because there were no seats. They just hung-out and bumped-our table for about 20 minutes. It was pretty crazy for the amount of money we spent. Not sure if I would recommend
It was a great night in AA. We had delicious meals and fabulous martinis. I would recommend this to a friend. We got out in time to make our date at the Tower Center. It made for a great evening.
1st time to the Black Pearl - I would definitely go again. Wasn't super hungry so got the shrimp cobb salad. I thought the amt of shrimp could have been greater but salad overall was very good. I would like to return and try one of their entrees as they looked very enticing.
Great atmosphere, food, and people at Black Pearl! Every time.
This was their 2nd weekend of having a brunch menu and I was excited to try it. The pamplemousse cocktail was light and refreshing and since I'm not a gin drinker, I was glad it didn't overwhelm the drink. The Monte Cristo had a nice balance of bread, cheese and thick-cut bacon. Adding a bit of raspberry preserve to each bite was the perfect amount of sweetness. We also ordered a side of sweet potato hash and were not disappointed. The poblano with the sweet potato, red pepper and onion was a nice combination. I went with someone who likes to ask for recommendations and the server wasn't too helpful but as time goes on maybe they will have tried selections and be able to recommend some items.
First time at Black Pearl. Excellent atmosphere. The food was outstanding. Can't believe I haven't been there yet. Highly recommend the Tuna.
I really enjoyed my meal and the service was great! I will be back!
My boyfriend and I sat outside and had a fantastic brunch. The french toast was amazing and the service was excellent. It was very nice enjoying brunch outside in A2 on a beautiful Sunday morning. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Great food! Several veggie options! New favorite spot!!!
My boyfriend and I came her for the first time to celebrate our anniversary! We had such a great all around experience! Our waiter Johnathan was super friendly! The food was great and so were the drinks! We will most definitely be back! :)
Food was very good and service was very efficient, I'd say too efficient. Felt like they really wanted to keep turning tables. I'd avoid if looking for a relaxing dinner.
Black pearl has wonderful food. Love everything I order and the drinks are also top notch. Didn’t realize they did taco Tuesday so my tacos were only $4 each.
Katrina (?) was our server. She was very personable, knowledgeable about the menu, offered wonderful suggestions and was attentive without being overbearing. I had caramel apple salmon - and cannot recommend this dish high enough to do it justice! My friend had three types of oysters on the half-shell and lamb chops - all of which he raved about, too. It is highly recommended a reservation be made ahead of time!
Food and cocktails were very tasty. Service was good also.
Wonderful experience dining at the Black Pearl. The Freddie Mercury martini is to die for. I would also recommend the Cioppino if you like mussels.
Food and service were both good. Fish tacos are always very good here. Beer and wine by the glass selection was somewhat limited.
Pre-gallery opening. Awesome drinks & service!!
We had a great time! The food was delicious and the service top notch!
My new favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor! Food and service was exceptional! Overall an excellent experience. Better than other higher-end restaurants on Main Street!
We were a party of 10 on a Friday night. First time visit for most of us. Great food and service. Our waiter was attentive and friendly.
Food was pretty good and so was service. A little bit loud and booths at back occasionally forgotten.
Black Pearl offers sophisticated ambiance, with great food and superb, personal service. Great location too, close to The Ark.
We went to The Black Pearl for the first time and we'll definitely be back again! I ordered the pork chop and my husband had the roasted half chicken. Delicious!
Reserved table days in advance for my birthday and was given a table in the back room. Service was slow- felt like our table was forgot about in the back. However, the food was excellent.
Black Pearl has inventive drinks, great food, and a friendly staff. It's definitely one of my Ann Arbor favorites. We come here often.
Jonathan our server was tremendous. Very nice and courteous.
Everything was great!! We loved the atmosphere and the food and service was outstanding!!! We can’t wait to go back!
Great meal and we were not rushed at all. We had appetizers, main courses, dessert, and a variety of cocktails and wine. If we were in a rush it may have been a problem, but we enjoyed taking our time and enjoyed the space. It is a bit loud, but the food was outstanding and I will gladly go back again. In particular, the coconut shrimp appetizer was delicious.
