Black Pearl Ann Arbor
Black Pearl is one of our Ann Arbor favorites. Love the outdoor dining option, although this time we dined indoors. Food was great. Service was spectacular.
Weather was perfect so we were able to sit outside.
All of our meals were cooked and presented perfectly.
Wait staff couldn't been better.
Great bar with a lot of signature drinks
I really loved the sea scallops, that dish was amazing. It was a nice place, patio seating was great, our party really enjoyed being there.
Black Pearl is a fantastic place to eat and have fun with your friends. Harry Cohen has created a place where food is excellent, ambience is exciting and the staff love what they do. Everything on the menu is good, the fish taco's are exceptional, micro greens on whitefish dip and other dishes add a tasty touch of magic. My wife is not a huge fan of fish in general, but raved about the Carmel Apple Salmon - she said, "best meal I've ever eaten in a restaurant..."
10/10 amazing food and definitely will return
Our table was very nice but is was noisy from kitchen area. The food was good but the scallop dinner came with just THREE scallops. Could have eaten another.
And another suggestion. We ordered the coconut shrimp to share as appetizer. We should have been told that there were three shrimp and hard to share. We would have gladly bought another shrimp. It was really delicious.
Some food weren’t available anymore when we went at 12:00 noon. So please make sure you have enough of supply for lunch and dinner if you are open for both.
We were stuck in the last table in the back and watched servers go by ignoring us. I finally got up and found a manager to ask how a party can be seated at 7:30 and still not have even water at 8 pm. He did the right thing and moved us outside where we wanted to be in the first place. We waited another ten minutes for a server and she ended being great. Food was fantastic, initially it was a bust. Some of the servers seemed way overwhelmed and one in particular had a miserable look on her face the whole time. Management seemed not to notice. The kitchen outshined it all.
Not bad, not great either, but definitely not worth the $50/head for one drink, an appetizer, and two entrees.
Service was great, no complaints, but we also beat the weekend dinner crowds so things might be different as the evening progresses.
The Pearl is known for their drinks and they don’t disappoint. A creative list of mixed drinks and an extensive beer/wine menu means something for everyone.
Ambience was great. Even as things got busier, it was never too loud to where we couldn’t hear each other talk across the table. No loud annoying background music either.
Unfortunately the food is where things fell a bit flat. Prices are typical Ann Arbor Main Street. Double digits for most appetizers and entrees pushing $30. But we founds things lacking. The shrimp guacamole appetizer was lacking in inspiration/creativity. It’s just guacamole with a few pieces of plain, cooked shrimp. The Cioppino has good flavor and the shrimp in it are succulent and perfectly cooked, but the clams and mussels were a bit over cooked and small in size. Not much variety in the seafood in the stew either - we got shrimp, mussels, clams, and a few tiny pieces of crabmeat. The togarashi seared tuna was cooked nicely, and was generous in portion size. But the description says it has a tako (octopus) vegetable salad...but I got no octopus. The veggies were fresh and crunchy though. The dressing has good flavor but is a little too sweet and overpowering. And the other main feature of the fish - the togarashi - got lost and the flavor of the spice barely came through.
Dinner was a bit disappointing, but if you’re looking for a place for an up-scale happy hour, the Pearl is worth looking into.
Food was ok, but great people.
Fish tacos were the best of the three entrees we ordered, and they were fine. Not as great as reviews seemed to indicate but tasty and satisfying.
Desserts were decent.
As always - great service, food and drinks! Sitting outside is always great when the weather is good!
Very accommodating for our friends 40th girls night out! BEST grapefruit martinis EVER!
I’d definitely go back...the fish tacos were great
Another wonderful experience.
Daughter in town from NY
Great food. Waiter put our business meeting in the back room on a weeknight.
Cool spot, good food, good service, and great location right downtown Ann Arbor
Good overall, couldn’t sit outside as it was very busy and there was an hour wait but had a table at the window which was the next best. We were seated promptly but not sure if it was the car show or just regular Friday night crowd, it was crowded, loud and the wait staff seemed a little off. Food was very good, our wine pour was meh. Service went downhill some at the end but it could have been due to the overly picky people we were seated with.
Food at the Pearl is creative but not over the top. Great flavors and presentation. Staff is super friendly.
Very good food. We tried the tasting menu and it was amazing!!
Fresh seafood with great outdoor seating. I enjoyed my meal.
Made a reservation, did not have to wait. Delicious food, casual but nice dining. Service great, ambiance comfortable. Would highly recommend.
Awesome outside seating ! Fun to people watch ! Drinks, service, food awesome!!!
Service was great food was great but they sat everyone right next to each other instead of spacing out the tables as they came in.
Staff dinner for 7. Table was ready on arrival, service attentive. Bit of a wait for food and beverage, but overall a nice dinner. Was louder than usual.
We always enjoy Black Pearl. This time we sat outside and of course it was noisy but we enjoyed it thoroughly. The only real glitch was our server who was s-l-o-w and a bit testy. I found myself trying to make nice with him to cheer him up. Maybe worked but service didn’t improve. Recommend fish tacos highly.
Food and service were great. It was a Saturday night and we did not experience any delay in service. Food was perfect. Thanks for the great anniversary dinner.
Good as always. Good food and even better drinks.
My first time at the Black Pearl was excellent. Great food and service!
Have always loved Black Pearl. Manager and servers are all so friendly and accommodating. I usually get the fish tacos but I decided to branch out and got the sea scallops. They were fabulous, perfectly seared. However I was underwhelmed by the risotto. Not much flavor. I grabbed a lime off my husbands plate and it helped a great deal. I’m also thinking it would be great on a bed of cheesy polenta but that’s just me. My husband had the swordfish. That was fantastic.
Food and service were great. Sat outside and enjoyed the evening.
Very lively establishment late on a Friday evening. The food was very good, service was good and our server, Katrina took good care of us and was very pleasant, friendly and smiled a lot, seemed to enjoy what she was doing. I would go back again.
Outdoor seating was perfect and food was delicious. Server was knowledgeable about the ingredients in each dish as well.
Love this place! Especially in the summer on the outdoor patio!
Restaurant was excellent
We had a great meal. We travel and dine out quite often. The Black Pearl exceeded my expectations and I would recommend them!
We sat outside, street noisy, but always interesting. Scallops were perfect. Hubby had the cat fish and enjoyed it very much. Also rest of the party had the fish tacos, which they loved. Sat and enjoyed the evening and appreciated the excellent service.
EVERYTHING at the Black Pearl was wonderful...REALLY! The drinks, food, waiter, ambience were outstanding. I was somewhat surprised; we ate there 3 years ago, outside, and were disappointed. We ate inside in a booth this time, and it was great. The St Gin, whiskey, oysters and salmon more than the best. The tacos were good, but would have preferred more fish and fewer veggies, but the taste was very good. The donut dessert surprised us, being so good with the great Roos Roast coffee. We'll go again, if only for oysters and drinks, but probably more.
