Delicious food and coctails! Servers wore masks and patio tables were spaced apart well for some nice al fresco dining!
Amazing food, drinks, and general ambiance. In general, we observed a lot of failure to protect the employees from customer who didn’t care to follow safety protocols. It’s important that my patronage goes to companies and establishments that value their employees highly and it did not seem that there was anyone designated to enforce these standards. I understand capacity limits restrict available staff, but this can be resolved by empowering your staff to stand up for their own safety and health without fear of retaliation.
We are so happy that the Black Pearl is back in operation after COVID!!
Hi. I think it was very nice the service was questionable bc she rarely checked on us but other than that the food and drink was good. Except for that one strawberry drink was very tart!
A girl I talked to at the front was pretty rude and dismissive and I’m in the service industry I never write bad reviews or say anything. But she was and on top of that said only 4 people could sit outside and I saw a group of 5 sitting out there which we were as well so not sure why they couldn’t accommodate us. But our male server was great and so was the food.
The restaurant was taking excellent precautions against the spread of Covid19. We sat outside, waiting for a table far from the sidewalk, where passersby mostly were NOT wearing masks, nor social distancing. We saw the table and chairs being sanitized, the servers wore masks and gloves, the menus were new and disposable, utensils were clean and arrived wrapped in a napkin. The only problem was the Black Lives Matter demonstration that unexpectedly came marching by, and stopped right next to us, with people shouting. Our safety level declined greatly then! At least the protesters were almost all wearing masks. I do support the cause, but marching down a street full of outdoor diners (street was closed to traffic) did not seem effective, and was not safe. Meanwhile, the fish tacos and caramel apple salmon were excellent!! Still only $18 for those fantastic tacos.
I do hope to stay well, being old and all.
Amazing and delicious night out! ❤️
I had another amazing dining experience at the Black Pearl! My fiance and I went out to eat for the first time since the" Stay At Home" order was lifted and we both felt very safe. Black Pearl clearly had all of the precautions in place and they ensured customers were following the guidelines. We ate inside, but the open window was so nice and airy that I felt like we were outside. The food was delicious (as usual)! I forgot how great the white fish dip and wonton chips are, yum! We will definitely be going back.
The Black Pearl never disappoints.
Great evening out in downtown A2. Good food and attentive service. Followed excellent social distancing and cleanliness. Try it...support downtown business!!
Sat outside on the patio the week of reopening and enjoyed every minute of it. We felt safe with the covid protocols that Black Pearl has put into place. The fish tacos were lovely per usual and our server was wonderful- friendly and attentive.
Always Fantastic. Fish tacos are the best around, no question.
A great place to get dinner! I've been several times - the avocado crab toast is one of the best things I've ever eaten.
Amazing oysters and great service!
The Black Pearl consistently gives excellent service, reliable, consistent food in the framework of a well managed restaurant. One of Ann Arbor’s gems and a neighborhood favorite. Great people watching when the outdoor venue opens.
Hope the owners of the space cut them a break in these challenging times ahead of us that will clearly hurt the restaurant business financially.
The food was very good as usual. The tomato bisque was outstanding and I wish was on the menu year-round. The scallops/risotto is a go-to for me and it was excellent. My wife enjoyed the clam chowder and coconut shrimp dishes she had as well.
The real star is the bar (we prefer to sit at the bar). Liz our bartender is attentive and friendly. She's an excellent bartender and we have fun experimenting with her recommendations. She also makes a mean whatever-your-favorite staple is (Manhattan
or old-fashioned for me). We find the rest of the bartenders are also quite good at what they do.
We like this spot a lot. They get our return business much of the time in a town full of excellent choices. I highly recommend The Black Pearl.
Be a good place for just drinks and appetizers. Food was mediocre need more options on the menu. Overall it was OK.
Good food, great service, wait staff was very nice and attentive!
Always good times.
The waiter was helpful with the selections, but kept dripping silverware. My colleague’s dinner was alright he said (the Cioppino) and my other colleague’s and mine was really good (seared ahi tuna). The oysters were really great as well. Overall, a great experience.
The food was amazing - we had the coconut shrimp and crab toast as appetizers. The sauce for the shrimp was incredible. Then, for main course, all were delicious - scallops, half chicken, tuna, and pasta. Dessert was the molten cake and berry crumble. Martinis and beer selection was great. To top it all off, our server was friendly and efficient. Lovely evening!
Our introduction was our Bloody Mary- of all the many Bloody Mary drinks we have had this was the hottest. It was undrinkable.
I had the Cioppino- the waiter described this dish as a supposedly “Italian bouillabaisse”. I was disappointed- the mussels and clams were rubbery. It had very little crab, and the sauce had far too many onions. I mean smothered in onions. The bread was fried on the grill. It could haves more wine in the sauce. My husband had the salmon which he thought was ok, but a bit over cooked. We won’t be returning.
Awesome food & drinks! Great space! Tony is the best!
Food was good. Loved the coconut shrimp. I had sweet potato gnocchi and it was good but small. A little pricey overall but LOVED my grapefruit martini and strawberry purée martini. Good date night.
Always our favorite. Great food, cocktails and service.
Attentive wait staff and wonderful cocktails made for a great evening.
Great place to go!
Such an amazing meal. We ordered the crab and avocado toast, tuna tartare, calamari, and shrimp guacamole to start and just that was amazing. I had the salmon as a main and it was delicious. The food is fresh and flavorful. I'd highly recommend. The food is expensive but entirely worth it.
Convenient location with excellent wait staff. Great food. Amazing cocktails. We have been very happy with this restaurant and have been back several times. So far the best dishes are the scallops and the tuna. Recently tried the burger and it was outstanding. Overall a nice place to hang out and get a great meal without a lot of pretense or fancy vibe you might get from some other great places in downtown Ann Arbor
Great overall experience! The food and drinks were both outstanding and our server was very attentive.
Thanks!
The waiter was helpful from choosing a beer to explaining the entrees. We ordered the fish tacos and gnocchi dinner and shared them. Both dishes had good flavor and a decent portion. We also ordered the shrimp guacamole appetizer, unique and tasty.
We celebrated a pair of birthdays, and had a very nice experience. The waiter was attentive and helpful without being overbearing. The food was good, and in some cases very good. The cocktails were creative and tasty. Overall, a very nice meal. Just a little pricey, as so many ANN Arbor restaurants can be.
We visited the Black Pearl during restaurant week, Friday evening, 7:30pm and from the start is was a bad experience. They were out of all the appetizers on the restaurant week special menu except for guacamole and chips. Plus the soup option was out on the second course. I asked if I could substitute for another appetizer and I was told by the chef via the server that the portions are reduced for the special menu so no. Th main course was also a reduced offering and after it was all done it was a extremely poor experience. If the BP was to cheap to be part of restaurant week they should have chosen to not be involved vs trying to make some unsuccessful approach to save on the cost of food because they offered a 3 course meal at $28.00. I visit main street restaurants often in Ann arbor and they are some of my favorites. I had never been to PB before nor will I ever return. Management should work on there customer skills since they don't exist. The Black pearl had the opportunity to handle the situation in a completely better way but are so caught up on the bottom line cost's of product that they stumbled enormously to make a dining experience anything other than horrible. I have a message for them, their quality of food was sub par even after they reduced the portion size. I didn't have one but the couple we were with go there for the martini's, So if its a martini you are looking for then they may be a choice but for a nice dinner avoid........to many significantly better choices in the area.
Went for my wife’s birthday, she enjoyed it very much. I have raved about the fish tacos and they didn’t disappoint. Excellent seafood. Jonathon was helpful with drink selection and an attentive and friendly server. Noise level is a bit too loud, and I recommend not sitting near the door as the cold air flows in. But, neither of those will keep us from coming back.
Always good there. We’ll be coming back
I feel like I have underestimated black pearl… It is so much more than fish tacos! Absolutely loved the unique microgreen salad and the roasted barramundi fish entree with spiced lentils and rice. We will start coming here for dinner more often.
Fantastic service from start to finish! The food and drinks were excellent as well.
My husband and I are big fans of the fish tacos, but I ventured onto something different and tried the sweet potato gnocchi. It was really good, although the portion seemed very small. The strawberry basil smash is an excellent, refreshing drink. We come often and are never disappointed.
Really good light fare and the drinks will change your life.
Love the martinis
