Black Hat Cattle Co. Ratings and Reviews
Dave Rodriguez and Co. run a remarkable, unforgettable restaurant. We recommend it as better than The Fort. It would be helpful if there was a vegan (no meat, no dairy) option on the menu for families/groups who have a vegan member. The decor is first-class; lots of thought and some significant investment has gone into the selection of decor items--art, art prints, sculpture, western-themed items. Always wonderful to have Dave greeting customers--so few restaurants nowadays have that personal touch. Recommend to everyone who wants to eat really good food in a quiet atmosphere, surrounded by reminders of our western environment. Thanks, Dave!
Extraordinary dining experience at one of Colorado's original hand picked cattle company restaurants. Our favorite by far, having spent many occasions with family building life long table memories in one of the most quaint mountain settings. Arrive in saddle, keep your hat on.
This is one our absolute favorite date night restaurants! We always feel so welcome, and usually by Dave Rodriguez, the owner and manager himself, in his signature Cowboy hat! The food is always fabulous (gotta try the creamed corn!), great appetizers (excellent shrimp cocktail), the steaks are always melt-in-your-mouth tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection, and it's hard to choose from all of the amazing desserts! The decor is very old-school upscale cowboy steakhouse with a horse-shoe shaped bar (the kind of place you would expect to see J.R. Ewing!), and the old classic country music takes us away! There are always great wines to choose from, mixed drinks, and plenty of beer choices. The service is always stellar and genuine! We have taken others who are always thrilled and we always have a wonderful, relaxing time! Great unique restaurant to give a gift certificate, because you know whoever you give it to will have a memorable time, get fabulous food and attentive service!
What a gem!!
Ordered three 3-course specials, one filet off menu, and one large aged ribeye off menu. The off menu filet and ribeye meals were excellent ... five-star. The special entree item of New York cut steak was not good. Ordered med-rare and were tough with maximum gristle and could only eat about one fourth of steak. Rest of special was ok. Desert was also good. BHCC will need to provide a better cut of beef on the Specials.
My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary a the Black Hat Cattle Company and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The food and drinks were superb. We enjoyed the atmosphere and surroundings. The staff were great, they were all very friendly and attentive.
We look forward to returning to the restaurant in the near future for dinner.
Nice service, unpretentious atmosphere. Def not "metro Denver". I was disappointed with the steak special which was a 14 0z Ribeye which was horribly undercooked (barely rare when I ordered Medium), very bland and not served got enough. And to boot it was $60, which is absurd and should have been indicated by the server. My fault for not asking "how much?" but when something is that expensive and not on the menu the server should volunteer it. Rest of meal was good, wife had trout which was tasty and yummy sides. So-so drinks. Guess gotta keep going to the city if you really want a fine steak experience.
We went for our anniversary on Saturday. My husband ordered a beer he got a few mins later, took about 15 mins to get my ice tea.
We ordered any appetizer which wad good and came out timely. Dinner oin the other hand, took forever. My filet tidbits were all except one well done supposed to be med- rare with some pink.
His steak was well done. Supposed to be med-rare. Not edible. He told the waitress, she brought him another steak that was raw, like bleeding, not edible.
The owner is there, drinking beer behind the bar. He should have comr over to apologize for the first steak, nope never said a word. Waste of a $150 meal.
The service was ehh.....ok but defineatly not the service you should be getting at a steak house.
Bummer since its in the mountains and we like to stay local for eating out. Won't be going back here
One of our two favorite restaurants in Colorado. Discovered by accident on a drive west from Morrison, the steaks are superb and martinis ice cold. Our favorite table is the first one inside the restaurant on the left. A great window setting with mountains in the background. A little pricey perhaps but the ribeye Montana size/style was amazing. Enjoy a great cattleman's dinner at the Black Hat!
This was one of the best dinners we have had in a very long time. The food was so tasty and the portions were generous. The service was also outstanding. We were celebrating our anniversary and were very glad we chose to go to the Black Hat. We won't forget how special it was.
We love Black hat, its our go to for any special occasion and sometimes when we just want a really good steak! Everyone there is beyond friendly and they are extremely accommodating. Our daughter has an egg allergy and our server checked everything we ordered or considered ordering for egg.
The food was absolutely amazing. I had a steak and a gluten free dessert . Both were excellent. Steak was exactly as I requested. My wife had the Seafood Mix and said it was the best seafood she had in a very long time. Service was excellent. We plan to return many times again.
Went for a nice meal with some out of town guests. Had been once before for a birthday and it was very good! This visit did not disappoint either! Although a bit pricey, it was delicious! Good place for a special occasion. We had 6 in the party and were seated in the wine room. Was a nice round table so conversation was easy. Our server, Linda, was terrific! Very hospitable and professional. Great personality! Everyone in our group had only rave reviews about their beef! Tasty and tender! Will definitely visit this restaurant again!
I have to admit I was disappointed with this place during a visit last year but for whatever reason, things have turned around dramatically. An expanded wine list, much better sides and an outstanding steak. I ordered the cowboy ribeye and it was expensive but as good as a top denver steakhouse.
Congrats on the significant improvements and I am delighted to have a great steakhouse without having to drive down to the city.
