Black Fig Greek Kitchen & Bar
Friday & Saturday: 11:30am - 11:00pm;
Sunday: 12:00pm - 9:00pm
We had a 6:00 PM reservation. There were only a few tables being occupied. My wife and I were seated right next to another couple in the “2 seat area”. It was extremely close to the other people. We had absolutely no privacy there. The waiter was taking the other table’s order and was basically in our lap while doing so. The bread seemed like it came from another table. The food was not hot when served. We had to track down the waiter for water. We have been there at least 8 times and we’re happier with our dinners... We were very disappointed and will probably not be back. What a shame.
Always on point. Great grilled octopus and amazing bronzino
It was a great experience and you guys helped me make a great impression on my date!
Had a reservation on Saturday night for dinner. Were seated at our table at 730. We were greeted by our server who explained the dinner specials and took our wine order. He came back with our wine selection and took our dinner order. Our appetizers arrived in about 15 minutes. The food was good. The restaurant was busy but there were open tables. At 9:10 pm we still hadn’t received our entrees. I called the server over and he advised that the kitchen was running behind. At 9:30 we still hadn’t received our entrees and I asked for the check. The server apologized and paid the bill and left. We were never offered any compensation for not receiving our entrees. The food was good but the service was horrendous.
We sat down at 7:15. Appetizers came relatively quickly. They became very backed up. It appeared that they had little waitstaff. We got our dinners 8:30 and one was completely wrong. The pasta in one dish was totally undercooked and the shrimp penne pasta dish was as salty and the shrimp over cooked. We were told the tuna that came out originally as penne pasta was almost done and we said not to bring it as we all had finished. I asked for ice water three times before I finally got it. The restaurant is very pretty but so noisy it was hard to speak to the other couple at our table with music that had the same resounding hard thumping beat. Not appropriate for that type of restaurant. Unfortunately the experience was one of the worst we have had in a very long time. Disappointing as we were looking forward to going there.
Real traditional greek food, very delicious. I will go back.
The Sesame Fried Feta appetizer was delicious as well as our entrees. I was looking forward to some Harlaftis Nemea wine but they didn't have any which was disappointing. They were also out of Corona beer which is odd for a Saturday night right before happy hour. Our service was fast but our waiter was either nervous or just a total WEIRDO with no personality and a blank expression on his face the entire time. We've been there before and definitely plan on going back as the food is great. Two entrees, one app, 2 glasses of wine & 2 bottles of beer were well over $100. One more suggestion, a glass should be offered when someone orders bottled beer. It's kind of tacky to be expected to drink straight out of the bottle at the dinner table in this type of establishment.
Pleasant experience , good food and service, nice ambiance
I went there with friends for lunch. Good food , good value, and good service
The waiter was strange. We sat at the table for about 15 minutes and no one came over. My husband finally call someone over to get our waiter and he turned out to be him. He had just standing around. The food was just okay. Really not much to write home about. The noise level was high. We had been to the restaurant for a graduation party and really enjoyed it c . We thought we would like it but we did not. We won’t be going back.
This isn't a ding on the Black Fig but society in general ...
When you enter an establishment such as the Black Fig put your cell phone on vibrate or lower the volume of the ringer.
And if you receive a call take it outside. Dont tell the caller at the top of your lungs where're you're at, who you're with and all about your day.
Its called courtesy. The establishment won't tell you because they want you to come back.
We'll be back as the food is soooooo good.
We love Black Fig! The lady and I had stuffed meatballs and a cheese with beets and fresh blood orange appetizer. Amazing! Then the scallop appetizer and vegetarian mouseaka dish. Perfect! Wine to match which made it even better. Thank you Kris for visiting our table and making us feel at home. Love it! See you soon!
Always passed by and wanted to try and finally had dinner here on 29 Sept. Great evening. Wife had the scallop appetizer (a special for the evening) and the lamb shank. I had the eggplant spread and the seafood risotto (also a special). All the dishes were well-prepared and presented. Unbelievably tasty. Freddy delivered great service! Looking forward to another dinner here!
We went there with great hopes because people in the area had recommended it. It was, to say the least, very disappointing. The waiter, who is very nice, but obviously was not trained properly. I had to explain to him how to serve wine, which is so fundamental I was astounded that he did not know how to do it. Food, was mediocre, and not very hot.
It started off on the wrong foot when we walked in and the host, who was also our waiter, was wearing a track suit - way too casual for the vibe of this restaurant.
It got worse when he poured my wine into a glass that still had someone else's lipstick on it.
The wine, a Pinot Nior (supposedly), tasted like it came out of a giant discount jug. Blech.
The meals came out, and although one of my table mates ordered salmon, she was served lamb. The "waiter" took her plate back and had a piece of salmon prepared, but we were almost done by the time she got her meal - and they left the side dishes on her plate to get cold in the meantime.
My meal, the moussaka, is what I order at every Greek restaurant I try, so I have had many, many versions. This was by far the worst. There was plain, unseasoned ground beef in the bottom of the casserole dish (which is supposed to be a lamb ragu), with some vague eggplant/tomato combo in the second layer, and topped by an edible bechamel. No potatoes could be detected (they are usually the bottom layer), and the whole thing was extremely disappointing.
Towards the end of the meal, we were deep in a business discussion, and the waiter came right up and inserted himself to see if there was anything else we wanted. I literally had to pause mid-sentence so that he could ask us because he was hovering there with his face right between ours. The table was cleared, but we lingered to finish our business meeting, so he came over and topped off our water glasses - and mine included a piece of something back floating in it. He literally looked right at it and put it down in front of me anyway.
HUGE disappointment overall, and I will not be returning.
There on a Friday evening and surprised it wasn’t busy. Despite this there was a delay in being greeted by staff and seated and service was relatively slow. Salmon was over cooked and lamb undercooked. We have eaten here before and this time was disappointed
We ate dinner at the bar. Christina was great!!!
Food is always good and consistent at the Black Fig.
We really love the food. However, the service is horrible. We waited over 10 mins before I waved someone to come to our table. The waiter apologized and said he was pulled from the bar to wait on tables. Saw several men in waitstaff outfits but not really doing much. Our waiter made our drinks and served them as well as bringing our food. He had too many jobs. We had to call him over to clear our plates. Then, we had to signal him we wanted to order desserts. We sat for 15 mins waiting for dessert. Had to catch our waiter when he left the bar area to ask for our desserts. So frustrating. A person came to our table to ask if everything was ok. Didn’t introduce himself. I saw him sitting at the table behind us for awhile. I asked if he was the manager and he said yes. I tried to explain that we love the food and have recommended this place to friends but if he wants his guests to return he needs to work on table service. He basically walked away with an attitude. He didn’t care what I was saying. But, he should of at least pretended to listen and say sorry. He needs to work on his management skills. Lastly, when we sat down, important to know we were only the fifth table and they couldn’t handle the load.
The food was good, but some of the dishes weren’t really to my liking. The spanakopita had a great flavor but very salty. Unfortunately the air didn’t seem to be working when we ate there so it was extremely hot through the entire meal on a 100 degree day.
We arrived, waited over an hour for an appetizer that never arrived. The drinks were sub par to say the least. After an hour we asked what the problem was And finally he came back saying the kitchen was slow but still without the humus. We said thank you but no thank you. Not worth the wait. Not coming back
Food great as usual. Need to switch that ac on several hours before opening. It was hot in dining room. Couldn’t keep the ice in the water — kept melting. Still love this place, food is great and always enjoy.
Service was as bad as it could be.
The Bar era not stocked well.
Asked for Kettle One and Pinot Noir . Not Available.
Probably will not go back.
Food took over an hour to get to us but was very good.
They need trained Staff or they will never last.
GREAT food, but hard to have a conversation with someone right next to you. Noise echoes a bit loud here. Also loved the decor and feel of the place. Would definitely return though!
Food was excellent...service was excellent. I thought the prices were a little high, but o recall very good
Very enjoyable dinner and evening at Black Fig. We had an opentable reservation for 6:00pm on a Friday evening and were seated promptly. Surprisingly, the Restaurant was not busy at that time on that day. Our dishes were well prepared and our waiter was very nice. The bronzino was excellent, as was the Santorini dish.
Our only recommendation would be for the restaurant to hire a greeter (mait're de) with the sole job of checking people in, checking reservations and seating people at the appropriate available tables for the size of the party. Our initial impression upon entering the restaurant was not good, as we were greeted and seated by waiters or some others from the staff that were not trained to do this job. A bit more attention to a professional environment at this restaurant would go a long way to increasing business and making a good initial impression.
No air conditioning in August. And no attempt to go get a fan for guests. The food was great.
This was the 4th time I have been to the restaurant. The air conditioning was broken and I can get past that...the server I had, I cannot. He was MISSING IN ACTION most of my meal and when my friend needed an additional club soda, we had to ask another server to refill her drink.
Being that the air conditioning was broken, there should have been ice in the water to make sure that people stayed cool. I know the restaurant it owned by the chef and therefore, he should have an experienced front of house person to be able to handle all these details and allow him to be creative in his kitchen while the needs of his guests are being properly serviced. Just an observation!
This place was just OK. It was a hot summer day and it was warm inside. The beer on tap was warm. The grouper was very ‘fishy’...I have driven by it many times in the neighborhood so I wanted to give it a try but it doesn’t seem to be anything other than OK. Too many other options in the area to go back
Overall the food was good but would recommend Bronzino w/ a little bit of sauce over it or on the side as it was slightly dry. Appetizers-we got the assortments and it was delicious. We got 4 kinds of desserts that they had to offer on their menu and all were enjoyable. Service was good-our waiter-Greg was very attentive. Had a very nice time!
I was very disappointed with my whole experience here. The waitress was pretty bad. She never once asked how everything was doing, left our appetizer, dirty dish on the table through the whole meal, and was very inattentive. I had the lamb Gyro and the meet was extremely well done and pretty tasteless. My daughter had the osso bucco, which actually was very good, and we brought the unfinished portion home. I just cut all the way into it, to the bone, and found pink uncooked meat. Very just satisfied.
The young servers were very attentive and friendly. Food was delicious and portions were large. The zucchini chip appetizer was tasty but a little soggy. We will return to this restaurant
Food was delicious. Service was attentive. Place is nicely decorated and clean. Overall great place!
The food was good and the atmosphere was nice, however it took 3 attempts to correct the bill. We were over charged by $52. Just watch your bill when you go. "There is a computer glitch"
Drinks and food were delicious! Service great! We will return soon!
Delicious food, great waitstaff, beautiful restaurant but air conditioning was broken that night so it was a bit uncomfortable. We’ve had many dinners there and it’s always wonderful.
It was VERY hot while we were eating. Maybe the AC was broken? Very uncomfortable to eat while sweating
Food was good. There are some dishes I would like to try. I will return despite very fair service.
Father’s Day dinner.
We started with Dirty water glasses followed by Warm water. Like they just fill from the facet. There was a black board just above our table with nice seafood selection but non were available. Do u think it should have been erased? As 1 of the appy’s we ordered duck confit ( it was old, stale and gross) we sent it back not 1 person came over to apologize. They just took it back to the kitchen and avoided us the rest of the meal. I had asked to substitute a vegetable in place of potato, I was told no problem. They gave me sautéed broccoli rabe ( they use frozen vegetables) and up charged $3.00 without informing us.
Well I enough about the food.
Then came to our plates away, I was actually still eating next thing I know my plate was stacked on top another and off it went. Then they came over to ask about dessert my mother was still eating her main dish. I told them to let us finish our main course. We did not bother with anything else. Just wanted to get out. It’s a shame the decor was nice but very unprofessional staff and poor quality food.
A group of 4 people came in for dinner at 8pm ( closing is 9pm) and they were turned away. I guess they were the lucky ones...
Food was good and service was just okay. The Saganaki was delicious. Our server seems inexperienced and didn’t have a clue.
Overall we enjoyed our dinner. Service was good but we had to ask if there were specials. Though we took it stride, one of the glasses did have lipstick on it. It was replaced promptly. Usually when ordering Saganaki it is flambéed at the table. Disappointed because the children at the table would have enjoyed that. Lamb shank was tasty but did have some dry pieces. Our Birthday celebration was nice with a sparkler on one of the desserts. Seafood was good over the orzo. We will go back.
