Black Fig Greek Kitchen & Bar
Friday & Saturday: 11:30am - 11:00pm;
Sunday: 12:00pm - 9:00pm
Food was good. There are some dishes I would like to try. I will return despite very fair service.
Father’s Day dinner.
We started with Dirty water glasses followed by Warm water. Like they just fill from the facet. There was a black board just above our table with nice seafood selection but non were available. Do u think it should have been erased? As 1 of the appy’s we ordered duck confit ( it was old, stale and gross) we sent it back not 1 person came over to apologize. They just took it back to the kitchen and avoided us the rest of the meal. I had asked to substitute a vegetable in place of potato, I was told no problem. They gave me sautéed broccoli rabe ( they use frozen vegetables) and up charged $3.00 without informing us.
Well I enough about the food.
Then came to our plates away, I was actually still eating next thing I know my plate was stacked on top another and off it went. Then they came over to ask about dessert my mother was still eating her main dish. I told them to let us finish our main course. We did not bother with anything else. Just wanted to get out. It’s a shame the decor was nice but very unprofessional staff and poor quality food.
A group of 4 people came in for dinner at 8pm ( closing is 9pm) and they were turned away. I guess they were the lucky ones...
Food was good and service was just okay. The Saganaki was delicious. Our server seems inexperienced and didn’t have a clue.
Overall we enjoyed our dinner. Service was good but we had to ask if there were specials. Though we took it stride, one of the glasses did have lipstick on it. It was replaced promptly. Usually when ordering Saganaki it is flambéed at the table. Disappointed because the children at the table would have enjoyed that. Lamb shank was tasty but did have some dry pieces. Our Birthday celebration was nice with a sparkler on one of the desserts. Seafood was good over the orzo. We will go back.
Service was friendly and attentive but not very knowledgeable. Flatbread appetizer was very good. Main courses were good but not great. One chicken dish had to be sent back as the chicken was undercooked and still pink inside. When it came back it was better but not cooked through. Desserts were not very good. Baklava was tasty but tough to chew. The second dessert was supposed to have fresh fruit as part of it but they put almond shavings instead. Server pointed it out and apologized but didn’t know why. Overall, there are better choices in the area.
Our reservation was not honored.
We booked at 8:00 reservation through OpenTable for Mother's Day. We received confirmation by email and text. When we arrived, we were turned away and told that our reservation was for 7:00 -- even though we showed the email with the 8:00 time. Ended up with fast food for Mother's Day.
We were there for Mother's Day, but the restaurant was not that busy that the service issues we had were affected by the crowd. There is certain restaurant etiquette that is expected based on the restaurant and prices. This restaurant needs to teach it's servers the proper way to serve a table. Women should be addressed first from menu presentation to food presentation oldest to youngest. Since it was Mother's Day, the matron of the table should have been addressed first. Our server started with my son and worked his way around the table with my Mother's order taken last. Our appetizer of mussels did not come with a serving spoon. Instead of being alert to the needs of the table, we had to request more pita and water. Food runners did not know who got which dish when they came from the kitchen. One server reached across my wife to serve and push my food to me. My dish had mussels and clams in shells, but I was not given a shell plate. We had to request more drinks rather than being asked. It was about 10 minutes between plate removal and presentation of dessert menus. Our bill was presented timely, but no one even looked at the table to take payment. We had to ask a busperson to get someone to take our payment.
The food is above average and priced fairly. The restaurant accommodated my wife's food allergy by preparing dessert she could eat. this was our second visit and we had service issues both times. For this restaurant to get better reviews, service has to improve. I would go back for the food.
Great restaurant with a nice atmosphere. Very nice decor with spacious tables. The menu has a nice selection of food that comes in good portion sizes. I wish there was more selection of custom cocktails but otherwise the food and the experience was nice.
I’ve been to the Black Fig a few times before, and the food has always very good, as it was this past time. The prices for most dishes are moderate, with a few of them being pricy, and others being a great value. However, I ordered a scallops appetizer (special), which I found out cost $32, after I got home. There were 4 scallops, and the priciest seafood appetizer on the menu is octopus for $17. For me, $32 for 4 scallops is grossly overpriced, and a patron should be made aware if the special is nearly double the cost of the most expensive appetizer on the menu (there are only 2 entrees slightly more expensive than than $3). I called the restaurant to speak with a manager to let them know I was disappointed. He kindly offered to buy me a drink the next time I visit. I appreciate the offer,l and will likely go back, but I won’t order another special from here without first knowing the price.
The Black Fig is a phenomenal Greek/Mediterranean restaurant with an eclectic menu that will more than satisfy everyone’s taste buds. The wait staff was amazing. Very friendly and attentive to all your needs. Try one of their signature cocktails for a different type of alcoholic beverage. The Black Fig is here to stay and we’ll be back real soon.
Andrew is great and our server O was fantastic. Great food and experience
Overall service and food were good but I won’t go back due to the noise level. It was so loud that I was almost shouting so my friend could hear me and we were at a small table for two. We left immediately after our coffee because we couldn’t take it anymore. My throat was sore when I got home. They should consider carpeting to help soften the noise level.
Great place. Food was delicious.
We have been here several times and the food is always delicious. They seem to run out of things sometimes (fish specials a couple of previous times and a couple of cocktail items this time), but the server was apologetic and offered alternate recommendations. I love the ambience and will definitely return.
Need to make better use of the space. You’re cramming parties into the main dining area while two larger tables were empty the entire time we were there. Servers were bumping us trying to walk around tables. Found restaurant very noisy too. Food excellent. Parking tight. No more people/parties can park there. Get rid of some of the tables — you’ll never fill up.
Great food. Service was outstanding.
We had great experience! Food fresh and super delicious
very elegant, staff is very friendly. Definitely come back
The food was mediocre at best and our server was missing in action.
The food was fresh, delicious, and plentiful. Can’t wait to go again!
Very good food and service. Only complaint is very tight seating.
As usual, we had a great evening at the Black Fig to celebrate ammy wife's birthday. We started with the swordfish skewer appetizer special which should become a regular menu item. Then we each tried the black sea bass special. So flavorful. Another keeper.
As we were leaving the host, Andrew, asked how our server did. After we told him that he was very attentive and we had no complaints Andrew told us it was the server's first night. Keep up the great work.
Excellent experience. Food was outstanding!
The drinks and the food at the Black Fig are excellent. Our server Lauren was friendly, knowledgeable and on-point...an absolute top notch young lady!
The service at the bar is abysmal- 5-10 minutes to get anyone to acknowledge you. When they do, they are friendly however, leaving $ on the table by not getting to people quick enough. After ordering the drink, I had to inquire twice about where it was ( very easily sidetracked by other duties) over another 5 minutes. It was a busy Saturday evening, but we had the same experience on 2 other occasions during the week. When we told the owner his response was a defensive “it’s a very busy restaurant and bar with 25 seats”. Made me scratch my head...which is why I explained that is all the more reason he needs more bartenders. I typically frequent other busy restaurants on Saturday nights that don’t have trouble at the very least, acknowledging the patrons waiting for drinks!
I am also a former waitress myself, if it makes any difference.
Sadly, this was our 3rd and will be the last visit to this restaurant. We so wanted this place to excel but everytime something goes amiss.
Last night, the Plaki was very very salty, smothered in too much tomato sauce. Lamb youvesti was only ok; again too much tomato sauce. Also, did you run out of pita bread??
Service was very poor. Our server was very distracted and seemed uninterested. She did not respond and/or acknowledge ANY of our questions. And the final straw was when she grabbed the signed credit card receipt while we were still sitting at the table without saying a word.... No thank you, no hope you enjoyed your dinner...nothing. I was extremely insulted. Anyway, does not matter as there will be no next time.
Rolled in at 7:15 on a snowy Saturday evening. Parking was a chore. Limited space had me parking across Rt 34 and walking across in a slushy hurry.
Greeted promptly and a table for two was ready for my wife and I.
We were immediately served some wonderful crusty hot bread with olive oil.
Waited a bit long ( about 10 minutes) for our server. The couple seated next to us was waiting longer that we were.
When the waiter took our drink order we already knew what we would have for appetizers and dinner and ordered all at once.
The appetizers of smoked eggplant and a grilled avocado salad were excellent. Plenty to share.
My wife ordered the lamb gyro ( shaved lamb not the mystery meat that many are accustomed to). Wonderful with Tatziki and flat bread and grilled vegetables.
I had the Moussaka. WOW, it was out of this world. A hint of cinnamon that I have not experienced in this dish before. Awesome!!!
Baklava with coffee ice cream was very good.
I highly recommend Black Fig
Great bar and xoxktails
The salmon was very fishy smelling and tasting...not fresh..had to send it back. They were nice enough not to charge me for it and offered free dessert even though I don’t eat sugar.
Very disorganized restaurant. Went on Valentine’s Day. Long wait for apps long wait for entree and only one came out at a Time
The first hint this wasn’t going to be an authentic Greek restaurant was the Italian bread and olive oil on the table instead of pita. The food was “OK”, not awful, not memorable. The service was awful.
The waitress had no idea what she was doing. When we wanted to split the bill on credit cards, she first put it all on one card and didn’t return my card. Finally, she understood what we wanted and found my credit card near the register.
The tables are so close together that in order to get in and out of your chair, the person at the neighboring table had to move.
The service was very slow. The appetizer was amazing but the meal was over cooked. We wait 45 minutes just for our drinks.
Food was wonderful. Service was a little slow but the place was packed. The tables are way too close together and very crowded. And it’s LOUD in here. Don’t expect to be able to have a conversation unless you are YELLING.
we went about 1:00 expecting the lunch menu and were told only the dinner menu was available which were mostly larger heavier meals than we wanted and much more expensive. we opted for the lamb gyro plate which was pieces of cut up lamp with a side of tzediki and cut up pita for $15- cheapest entree on menu. it was good , not great. service was slow.
Our server was great! She was very friendly and knowledgeable about any questions we had. Tomatoes in our salad were soggy, as if they were frozen and thawed. My main course was very good, served hot and yummy! I’d like to try their lunch, I’ve heard it’s very good.
Food always fresh! Great atmosphere! Highly recommend
Fantastic meal as always! Drinks were on point, spreads were delicious and our entree ls were fantastic! We will be back soon!
Outstanding Greek food in a pleasant atmosphere. My wife and I ordered two appetizers. An excellent eggplant spread and another of confit of duck. We loved both. A word of caution, the portions are quite large. One appetizer for two is more than enough. My Osso Bucco was cooked to perfection, my wife really enjoyed her Branzino. We shared a dessert. Wine list was small, moderately priced. At the end of the meal, the owner came over with free after dinner drinks. He was very nice, turns out that he owns a restaurant Kyma in Somerville that where we have eaten several times.
Excellent dinner. Great service. Everything was done right at this place.
Had dinner reservation with my husband & son. Went to the bar first to have a drink. We decided to eat dinner at the bar. Annie & Nina were fabulous!!!! So attentive and beyond sweet. We were there a few weeks ago and Nina remembered something my husband liked. Thought that was a nice touch.
We arrived at 7:25 for our 7:30 reservation and was told by the owner to take a seat at the bar because our table wasn't ready. I ordered a cocktail which was delicious by the way, and continued to wait, and wait, and wait. I watched the owner seat parties of 4, 5, and 6 while we sat at the bar and chatted.
At 7:55, I told the bartender that waiting this long for a table with a reservation wasn't acceptable. She made the owner aware of the situation and then told us that we'd be seated as soon as a table became available. She felt awful, so she made me another cocktail, no charge.
We were finally seated at 8:05. Our waitress was lovely. She took our order and promised to be right back with a basket of bread. 15 minutes later she came back to the table, no bread in hand and asks my partner what he ordered because she forgot. Food finally comes 25-30 minutes later and mine is cold. I kept my mouth shut because I didn't want to embarrass my partner and I was starving.
Both female bartenders are the only reason I'd return to this place. Both ladies had great personalities and excellent customer service skills. My advice to the owner: Don't take reservations if you can't honor them in a timely fashion.
