First visit. Would definitely go back! Good food. Southern cuisine not too common in this area. Cool atmosphere. Would’ve liked to stay for the music but had tickets to a show at the Bushnell. Short walk from there.

Loved the Cajun meal! Discounted tab with our tickets for a play at the Bushnell! Friendly & attentive service.

Homemade chips were amazing ! Damn good chicken was delishious and a huge portion (could have used more sauce though). The walls and decorations are awesome.

There were two groups of patrons that were yelling and screaming so loud that everyone else in the room was very annoyed. Fortunately someone from the restaurant asked them to tone it down and it did come down for a while then started to get very loud again. First time I've had this kind of experience here. Otherwise, our service was perfect, Carolyn was delightful and helpful, and the food was delicious and arrived relatively quickly.

Food and waitress was excellent. I had a party of 6 and only two complaints. They thought the gumbo could have been spicier. And the salmon portion could have been bigger. The fried catfish, ribs collard greens and garlicky green beans were the “Belles of the Ball!” All and all great experience, prices were reasonable and we definitely would come again!

I decided to try Black-eyed Sally’s during the taste of Hartford week. I must say we were very pleased with our meals. The service was friendly and our food was served within a reasonable time. I will attend again.

First time there. Wonderful food. Waitress great! Honestly a little put off by hostess- not friendly and never cracked a smile? It was a weird vibe from her for sure. But maybe she was having a bad day? Who knows and it usually doesn’t bother me too much about people’s attitudes except she is in restaurant business. Smiles work well.
Planning to visit again as the food and drinks were yum!

Food was great. The only thing was, our main meal took too long to come out. Our waitress apologized 3 times for the wait. I will go again because the food was great.

For a Thursday night it was fantastic, not overly crowded. We saw two live bands and service was spectacular, they even were nice enough to accommodate my dairy allergy with their entree items and desserts. Highly recommend. Have gone here since I was a little girl with my family and not much has changed with this energetic eatery since!

Nice bar area. Cozy place to see live music...which means it’s small and very loud. Food is ok. They have certain traditional southern menu items. Don’t expect a large selection of healthy food options. My only bad note is that upon entering the establishment, there was an overwhelming smell of mold. Not sure if rug had been washed recently or they had a water issue. Either way, I would remove the cheap rug at the entrance.

Service was very slow for some reason, restaurant was nowhere near capacity and did not seem full as there were several open tables around. There were 2 very loud groups (8+ people each) who seemed to be trying to outdo the other for who could be the loudest. The food was just ok, couldn’t wait to leave. I would not recommend this restaurant based on this experience, perhaps they deserve another chance?

Went here for the first time on a whim while waiting for a train. Was so impressed that when I was back in Hartford for a conference, took a group over and we all ate well and had too many leftovers! Still have to return and bring my husband who has missed out on both occasions!

I love the blues so it doesn't take a whole lot else to make me happy there. The food is good but I have to say the service was very rushed like as if in some kind of race. Did not check back or refill water and such at all. Food came out reasonably quick but after that your on your own. I figure they are short staffed and still left a good tip but may be sorry that I chose to take my relations, who traveled 1,000 miles to visit us.

Disappointed for the second time in as many months. When you're busy - your quality suffers. Waited 20 minutes for my reserved table to be ready. Asked for a generous table for 6 adults and we were crammed in a nook. Couldn't hear our guests, music was far too loud to enjoy and the food was cold. Server was great - very attentive but waiting 50 minutes for our food to arrive was unacceptable seeing as we spent $150. Taking a break for awhile due to these recent experiences.

Went for a belated Father’s Day dinner with my sons. Cornbread was fresh and delicious. Rib platter, pig out plate, and brisket platter were all good, and the rice/beans and cole slaw sides were excellent.

I went with friends for dinner and live jazz on a Monday night. A fabulous time was had by all! Everyone loved their dinner (highly recommended: shrimp and grits, Cajun catfish, and mac and cheese), and the live music was exceptionally fine. I also recommend the mojitos! Will definitely return!

This is a great place to dine and enjoy the company of your dinner companion. The music is generally jumping on Saturday evenings and you can hear it played from most any location in the restaurant, however you can pay a cover charge to be seated in the area of the band. It's a great place to eat. I highly recommend it.

I have been to Black Eyed Sally's twice now and both times I thoroughly enjoyed it. The first time I ordered the mac and cheese brisket which wasn't my favorite, but I think that is just because I am not a brisket type of girl. I went with a group the first time and majority of those around me ordered chicken and waffles which I of course tried and loved! It was overall good company and food. The second I went was just yesterday and this time I ordered a combo with ribs and BBQ chicken with mac and cheese and rice and beans. Let me just say that I left there full and dancing! I was much happier with this meal choice and once again I had great company and good food! I would definitely recommend this restaurant! :)

I invited several friends to meet me for lunch at Black Eyed Sally's because I've been many times before and I've always enjoyed delicious food and excellent service; also, I live in MA and my friends live in CT so Sally's is a great mid-way meeting point. One of my friends ordered fried green tomatoes followed by shrimp and grits which she loved. Another friend ordered salmon salad and she too was very pleased with her meal. I ordered chicken and waffles for the first time. The meal came with a side of macaroni and cheese and one drumstick and a breast; additionally, I received two quarters of a Belgian waffle and a side of syrup. Elba, our excellent server brought my Southern slam along with my friend's appetizer so we were able to enjoy our "starters" together which was nice. There was a slight snafu with my initial order but Elba quickly took care of everything and my friends and I enjoyed a wonderful meal and great company. I really appreciated the personable and responsive service, the funky and fun atmosphere with some great blues medleys playing in the background. I've been for both lunch and dinner and would recommend both!

The live band was WAY too loud for the small space...couldn't talk to anyone!
Waited 2 hours for our meals, and the waitress told us she had no idea when our food would be ready! We never got served! Left at 11:15pm and went to Trumbell Kitchen which had great food.
