We went Tuesday night to hear a band. Black-Eyed Sally’s has live music almost every night. Their food is excellent, and going there is always a great experience.
Frequent stop when we are in the neighborhood and it is always good. Have tried much of the menu and no duds yet.
Great experience, great vibe.
Grandson’s 10th Birthday. The food was exceptionally good, especially the ribs, pulled pork platter and The jambalaya!! And Nicki, our server was great!
What A Great Place - Host/Hostesses were A-1. This was not our first time. We definitely will be back!
First time there - we will be back. We enjoyed the performance by Grayson Hugh. The food was good and the staff were friendly and professional. Prices were reasonable.
Great time Jo was an amazing server very on point
Great southern style cooking. Jambalaya was fantastic. Good music. Service was good and not overbearing.
Live music was phenomenal.
The best BBQ I’ve had since moving here from the Midwest in 2013. The brisket sandwich was delicious, the fried pickles and okra were SO good and the sweet tea and homemade chips were perfect. I can’t wait to go back and try more!
Good energy, reliable service, creative cuisine and overall consistency ... I've been a regular patron for more than a decade and will continue-- it's my "go to" venue for dinner and great music!
On the night we dined, there was a live jazz band. A big plus to us. Everyone was friendly and helpful. It seems to be a place that the locals frequent and everyone knows everyone. It was a very welcoming experience for these out-of-towners. I love Southern food and this was some of the best! The catfish was good and so was Sally's pig out. Our favorite by far was the fried chicken though. Also the cheesy grits were delicious! The fried green tomatoes had too much breading for my taste, but when that was peeled off, they were good. A great experience for us!
We went after reading stellar reviews. Had high hopes for a fun great tasting father’s day celebration.
I’ve eaten lots of real bbq and southern food- this was not great. A few dishes were not worth eating.
Very so so jambalaya, fish fry was dry and tasteless, brisket was tasty but by no means outstanding smoked brisket.
Overall, it was very mediocre.
We were disappointed
Food was great. They offer a variety of BBQ and southern cuisines that are very well prepared. We also stayed for the live band. For the extra $10 cover charge we were treated to a very nice show of blues and jazz.
Our server, Carolyn, was very professional and attentive. The food and drink prices were very reasonable. We got 2 entrees, an appetizer, and drinks for around $75 including a 20% tip. Highly recommended
I visit Black Eyed Sally's once a month when visiting Hartford. It's a great value for how filling the food options are, I often feel satisfied and have enough left over for a second meal, a major perk for someone traveling as much as I do. I love the atmosphere in the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend dining directly in the stage room when live music is happening if you intend to have conversation the whole time. As a musician, I support giving all one's attention to the musicians while they're playing, especially if you're dining directly in the music area (the restaurant graciously provides options to be seated in sections away from the stage). Otherwise, I wonder if the sound engineer could manage the sound of the music a little better to help accommodate the more talkative among us.
I can't wait to go back. We went for Sunday brunch. We were there before opening, but the staff took pity on us and let us in to sit inside while they readied the restaurant for service. Once seated, we were cheerfully greeted by our server who was surprising cheery considering that she worked the night before. Sunday brunch menu was super. How can you beat authentic Southern Fried Chicken and waffles? Cornbread was moist and served with honey butter. All of the breakfast choices were dynamite. Fantastic local art on the walls, fun decorations make the interior come alive. This place is known for jazz and live music. Unfortunately, not at Sunday Brunch. That was the only thing that could have been added to make this the perfect experience. As I said at the start, I can't wait to go back to try some more Southern fare, but this time, with some live Jazz!
Food was great and service
Excellent service and atmosphere. LOVED THE MUSIC ANTHONY GOMES. Easy to park and good prices. Friendly staff.
Great place, Great live music I had the most fun I had in a while...
Great show! We had good seats, it was a lot of fun!
Great place for dinner and live music albeit a little pricey with the $15 each cover when having dinner and drinks as well.
Came here for my birthday celebration with my parents and my significant other. Our server Dmitri was so attentive to our needs. He was knowledgeable about the menu and made our experience so special. The food was delicious and we enjoyed a little live music too. I live down the street and have never been there before this. Ill definitely be coming back and I will definitely be recommending it to people.
When I am in the mood for southern food I always think of black eyed sally. Thief food is always good.
Went to see a show at Hartford Theater and saw this restaurant come up on a search . We had the best waiter Dimitrius who was awesome ! Chicken and waffles were great , catfish , Mac and cheese ! Everything just wonderful
Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable." The food was very good. Especially liked the gumbo and the catfish fingers. The music was top of the line and the atmosphere was wonderful. Very clean restaurant!! Our waiter was friendly and extremely efficient! Everyone was in a great mood and my entire party had a great time.
Half of the menu was out of food not good. The band was great, ambience terrific. I would go back for drinks/apps only
I loved the vibe of the restaurant from the second I walked in! The only thing I was a little peeved about was that there wasn’t a high chair available for the first half of our lunch, which was inconvenient because I would rather my little demon baby be strapped down vs. on my lap! But overall, this place was amazing! The music for mother’s day brunch was warming and uplifting! I’d definitely be back!
Fun place. Food was good. We were set up for a table of 8. We arrived a bit early intending to have a drink at the bar... but we were all set up and the server was waiting on us! The band started as we were having dessert. They got the place jumping!
We will definitely be back.
On a Saturday afternoon, it was a crazily noisy (we got reseated) with a loud family. Coming from a loud family, the two of us were happy to be reseated.
The food was okay.
The service was very good.
There was just a LOT of noise.
And a lot of salt in food.
Very good food and a varied selection of ‘Southern’ cuisine. Our server, Caroline, was exceptional - cheerful, knowledgeable about the menu and quick to respond to our needs. This was the first time we were there and we will definitely go there again.
very enjoyable live blues music, nice layout, very good service, pretty dang good food ( a little pricey but based on the atmosphere and live music it seemed worth the money to me). I thoroughly enjoyed myself as did my friends and will be back soon.
This was a very nice find for a restaurant half way between Amherst and New Haven. The food was excellent and prices reasonable. My only minor complaint is the the waiter, who was very helpful, didn't know anything about beer. When I told him that it was more bitter than I wanted, I wasn't offered something else. Not a big deal, but in the past, when I was with somebody who got something that wasn't what they had hoped for, they were offered a different option. Still, I would definitely go back, but get there early, and sit in the back room. My friend and I would not have been able to talk in the front room once the boisterous folks and band started up.
Unbelievable food, great decor. Wish we could have stayed for the music. Only issue was i think our waitress was high
Awesome food, Awesone service. Although my friend catfish was a little overcooked I know everyone else in my party enjoyed everything else that hit the table. Shrimp and Grits are sooo good!!
The ambience is great. Two pieces of hair was in my fries. Mentioned to staff, he apologized, someone needs to be more careful, with handling food preparation.
Always a great dining experience. Food and service is always amazing
The Brunch & Blues on Easter Sunday was a great idea. We got seated quick next to the band. The waitress was nice and accommodating. The band started right away. Drinks were on our table before we got back from getting brunch buffet. The blues was perfect and engaging. People danced on the dance floor. The singer came around to everyone during her break to talk to those at the tables. Very nice!
This was our first time here. Came to see a band play and had dinner first. Food was excellent and service was great considering the restaurant was packed. Overall it was a great experience. I would recommend this place for dinner or just for drinks. Great atmosphere.
Great BBQ and southern favorites. Even when there isn’t live music, the playlist is great and really creates a fun vibe.
Sally’s is consistently good food. The pulled pork is very good, the ribs probably a little to fall off the bone for me. I like a little bit of chew. The gumbos and jambalaya are excellent as are the fried green tomatoes and the fried pickles an okra. Serivce was prompt and attentive. They had a nice selection of beers on this trip.
Server was very helpful with our gluten free restrictions. And very accommodating and didn’t make us feel bad about it! Linette? Was her name I think! She’s very pleasing!! Would definitely return!
