Went for the live music to see Measured Soul band. Music was incredible and the food was a bonus! Our waitress, Lynette was very pleasant and attentive. Will definitely go back again.
Lucky Peterson. Place Togo for live music. Especially Monday night Jazz jams.
100% would recommend! It was a nice place to eat and the music was fantastic
Disappointed that we could not order white meat with waffles brunch.
Some new food combinations just don't quite work. I've ordered the salmon in the past and it comes with mashed potatoes which works really nicely. This time it came with mashed sweet potatoes which, combined with the sweet barbecued sauce on the salmon really does not work. I was surprised that there were no substitutions allowed which is not what I'm used to at this restaurant.
Cornbread was good, but it was just cornbread-nothing to go to the restaurant for.
Ribs were dry and the BBQ Chicken was just roasted chicken with a dab of BBQ sauce put on it. That's not what I consider BBQ chicken.
Black-Eyed Sally's was a fail.
Our waitress was excellent!!
We were very disappointed in our "Taste of Hartford" experience at Black-Eyed Sally's.
Our meal was poor; the ribs were very fatty; both sides were room temperature (potato salad/coleslaw), not cold as we like. The waitress was not very attentive. The beer was slopped on the table & everything brought to the table by the waitress was placed on the opposite side of the table which we had to reach for. The server who brought our entrees at least placed them in front of us.
Granted the "Taste of Hartford" had 'special' pricing & we appreciate that, but overall you would think the establishment would want to impress you so that you'd return. We won't!
Tully was our waiter and was very personable, as well as efficient.
It was my birthday and I had never been there before. I was extremely pleased with my jambalaya and deviled eggs and they were also gluten free. You need a gluten free dessert for the days I am willing to indulge. My drink was a little too sweet but excellent too.
The food is very consistent, moderately priced and tasty. The ribs are very meaty and the cole slaw was better this past week than in previous weeks. I would have given a much higher rating except for the drinks. The past three times I have ordered a gin chilled with ice on the side. Every time it has been way more water than gin and very small portion for the price. There are many places in the Hartford area that for the same price the drink is ten times better. I must say I am very disappointed and it will influence my coming there in the future. Maybe it is the bartender, but you can definitely get a better drink other places for the same price.
Unfortunately we did NOT have a good experience here on 7/20. The music was Fantastic but BES's service was deplorable! Rec'd only one round of drinks & the waitress disappeared & we ended up getting are own drinks at the bar! When she did show up we ordered an appetizer that we waited for for over 25 minutes so we left!! So sad to have to write this have bern here many times over the years & the poor waitressing ruined it
We had to wait more than 20 minutes just for menus, and then another 45 minutes for our food. The food was excellent and the server was wonderful -- but we should have been given some consideration (free appetizers; a discount on the meal; a voucher to return another time) since the incredibly long wait was extremely frustrating. We were getting very tired and did not enjoy the evening nearly as much as we should have.
Wonderful first experience @ Black Eyed Sally's during Taste of Hartford/Hartford Jazzfest 2019 - our server was friendly and knowledgable, and the food and drinks were absolutely DELICIOUS! We look forward to our next visit.
I would only recommend this restaurant to someone who loves pork. I particulary do not eat it and the menu is overwhelmed with it. The salmon salad is the only thing on the menu I could eat and It was very good so this meal, I recommend.
We were here during Hartford Restaurant Week and did the prix fixe menu. Food came out fast - too fast actually. We were halfway through entrees when the server brought out dessert. There was a band playing so we paid the cover charge to listen to the show. Unfortunately the band's sound tech had one of the vocalists miked too high so the reverb was terrible. Overall still a great time as always.
This is a fun place for BBQ and Southern fare, with live music available later in the evening. The food was very good. I enjoyed Chicken and waffles and the husband raved about the ribs and brisket. Portions were generous and the service was very good. The restaurant was pretty busy and the waitress was hustling. Unlike some BBQ joints, no paper plates and plastic forks here. Overall, we had a great meal complete with leftovers. It was a good value and a slightly different food type than most in the local area. Recommended.
Great place before a Hartford show!
We went Tuesday night to hear a band. Black-Eyed Sally’s has live music almost every night. Their food is excellent, and going there is always a great experience.
Frequent stop when we are in the neighborhood and it is always good. Have tried much of the menu and no duds yet.
Great experience, great vibe.
Grandson’s 10th Birthday. The food was exceptionally good, especially the ribs, pulled pork platter and The jambalaya!! And Nicki, our server was great!
What A Great Place - Host/Hostesses were A-1. This was not our first time. We definitely will be back!
First time there - we will be back. We enjoyed the performance by Grayson Hugh. The food was good and the staff were friendly and professional. Prices were reasonable.
Great time Jo was an amazing server very on point
Great southern style cooking. Jambalaya was fantastic. Good music. Service was good and not overbearing.
Live music was phenomenal.
The best BBQ I’ve had since moving here from the Midwest in 2013. The brisket sandwich was delicious, the fried pickles and okra were SO good and the sweet tea and homemade chips were perfect. I can’t wait to go back and try more!
Good energy, reliable service, creative cuisine and overall consistency ... I've been a regular patron for more than a decade and will continue-- it's my "go to" venue for dinner and great music!
On the night we dined, there was a live jazz band. A big plus to us. Everyone was friendly and helpful. It seems to be a place that the locals frequent and everyone knows everyone. It was a very welcoming experience for these out-of-towners. I love Southern food and this was some of the best! The catfish was good and so was Sally's pig out. Our favorite by far was the fried chicken though. Also the cheesy grits were delicious! The fried green tomatoes had too much breading for my taste, but when that was peeled off, they were good. A great experience for us!
We went after reading stellar reviews. Had high hopes for a fun great tasting father’s day celebration.
I’ve eaten lots of real bbq and southern food- this was not great. A few dishes were not worth eating.
Very so so jambalaya, fish fry was dry and tasteless, brisket was tasty but by no means outstanding smoked brisket.
Overall, it was very mediocre.
We were disappointed
Food was great. They offer a variety of BBQ and southern cuisines that are very well prepared. We also stayed for the live band. For the extra $10 cover charge we were treated to a very nice show of blues and jazz.
Our server, Carolyn, was very professional and attentive. The food and drink prices were very reasonable. We got 2 entrees, an appetizer, and drinks for around $75 including a 20% tip. Highly recommended
I visit Black Eyed Sally's once a month when visiting Hartford. It's a great value for how filling the food options are, I often feel satisfied and have enough left over for a second meal, a major perk for someone traveling as much as I do. I love the atmosphere in the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend dining directly in the stage room when live music is happening if you intend to have conversation the whole time. As a musician, I support giving all one's attention to the musicians while they're playing, especially if you're dining directly in the music area (the restaurant graciously provides options to be seated in sections away from the stage). Otherwise, I wonder if the sound engineer could manage the sound of the music a little better to help accommodate the more talkative among us.
I can't wait to go back. We went for Sunday brunch. We were there before opening, but the staff took pity on us and let us in to sit inside while they readied the restaurant for service. Once seated, we were cheerfully greeted by our server who was surprising cheery considering that she worked the night before. Sunday brunch menu was super. How can you beat authentic Southern Fried Chicken and waffles? Cornbread was moist and served with honey butter. All of the breakfast choices were dynamite. Fantastic local art on the walls, fun decorations make the interior come alive. This place is known for jazz and live music. Unfortunately, not at Sunday Brunch. That was the only thing that could have been added to make this the perfect experience. As I said at the start, I can't wait to go back to try some more Southern fare, but this time, with some live Jazz!
Food was great and service
Excellent service and atmosphere. LOVED THE MUSIC ANTHONY GOMES. Easy to park and good prices. Friendly staff.
Great place, Great live music I had the most fun I had in a while...
Great show! We had good seats, it was a lot of fun!
Great place for dinner and live music albeit a little pricey with the $15 each cover when having dinner and drinks as well.
Came here for my birthday celebration with my parents and my significant other. Our server Dmitri was so attentive to our needs. He was knowledgeable about the menu and made our experience so special. The food was delicious and we enjoyed a little live music too. I live down the street and have never been there before this. Ill definitely be coming back and I will definitely be recommending it to people.
When I am in the mood for southern food I always think of black eyed sally. Thief food is always good.
