Love this spot. Great vibe and quant. Usually everything is great. We loved the fried chicken, but the short rib was over cooked this one time. It happens. Service and staff are always great.

Our first visit to Black Dog Tavern. Our meal was very good and our server was friendly and attentive (but not too attentive). It was fairly quiet, but then it was mid-week and there are pandemic restrictions. I had the fried chicken, which was tasty, as were the sides (mac and cheese and coleslaw). My wife had the mac and cheese and enjoyed it a lot. Creamy and tasty. The menu had some good options, both for food and alcohol. We'll be back.

This used to be a favorite spot, mostly because of the ambience. It seems to have undergone a personality "vacuuming". All atmosphere is gone. No art on the walls (they used to have glorious 1920s French advertising posters); the music sounded like a Pac-Man game in the next room with overtones of dish-washer; the greeter lacked any kind of warmth or graciousness; the lighting was "hospital cafeteria-esque." The waiter was nice and gave some good info about the wine but the food was underwhelming. Steak/Frites was just that. A big slab of steak (they used to slice it nicely) which was cooked well but a bit tasteless, and a bunch of french fries. Not really frites and not even a single condiment. Had to ask for salt and pepper and aioli for the fries. Aioli was just mayonnaise. Pretty disappointing food but it really was the complete absence of ambience that really turned me off. This was once a place that we would take visitors to Kington for a charming, casually elegant evening. I would never take a guest there now. Not doing that again!

Black Dog has fallen a long way from when they were Chien Noir. Now it's nothing more than a glorified finger food place in a well-restored old building. The food is over-priced and the wine-by-the-glass prices are larcenous. If you want a decent lunch - though pricey - then you'll be happy. If you're going for a nice dinner, you'll be disappointed.

Amazing food and service! We had the steak sandwich and fish and chips - both meals were absolutely delicious. Our server was super easy going, attentive and keen to give her opinion on the menu items. Will definitely be going back.
