Wonderful food and wine. Staff was amazing! Will definitely be going back for more!
Celebrated my birthday dinner there last night and we had such a great time!! We all loved the decor, food, drinks and service was amazing! Totally priced well and we can’t wait to go back. There wasn’t anything we didn’t love or wouldn’t recommend. Thanks for making my night so special!!
Everything was incredible. Food, service, atmosphere.
I am from Spain and the food was authentic and delicious. It really reminded me of home. I highly recommend Black Bull for authentic Spanish food.
Great! But just a hair pricey. Very easy to order a large number of $20 plates.
We had a good time overall. The appetizers were very tasty. We had a cheese/jamon board, croquettes, potato tortilla, and dates wrapped in jamon. We had paella (both the Valenciana and the veggies) and were tasty but not spectacular. The downsides were: our beer took longer than a bottle of wine to hit the table and the server wasn’t very attentive to our dietary needs (one guest didn’t eat seafood and meat, there were plenty of options on the menu the server could have suggested to her but he didn’t). The ambience and decor are lovely and transported us back to Spain!
The food was excellent. And our server, Julia, knew the food & drink well, & was very enthusiastic about the offerings. However, the music was too loud & not right for the ambience & food.
Charming elegant restaurant with friendly staff. Our server Angela was Excellenct suggesting vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes for our party of eight. Must-try. Will definitely return back.
We ordered several appetizers, including tuna tartar, shrimp, and brussel sprouts, as well as the aged ribeye and everything was DELICIOUS! The drinks were fantastic, our server was phenomenal, and it was overall a wonderful experience. Highly recommend! :)
Black Bull is very authentic Spanish! We enjoyed every dish we ordered. Our waitress was great and helped us work our way through the menu.
Great food, atmosphere and service. Second time there and will be back again.
Another great dinner at Black Bull. A friend had an egg allergy, and they managed it beautifully. Great wine recommendation. Did not rush us... super memorable night.
Our first time at Black Bull and didnt understand the menu. Our waiter Ethan (i think) was fantastic. I have a Garlic allergy and just about everything at the Black Bull has garlic. We informed our waiter and with his guidance and the chef's excellent cooking we had a fantastic meal.
Had no problem with my allergy.
Thank you Chef and waiter Ethan.
After dinner enjoyed the Thursday night show upstairs at Bordel.
5 stars all around.
Great service, great food, no non alcoholic beers. I’d love a drink, if I could , but those days are over.
Really tall dude with hip hair was wonderful.. I think his name Ethan. Sarah who was with me on this date thinks his name may be Kyle. Either way Kyle/Ethan did a great job at recommending dishes.
AMAZING!! Everything we had was so great and the service was awesome she was very knowledgeable
Really enjoyed our visit-- service was great, loved the ambiance. Drinks were good.
On two visits we’ve tried many different plates and each one was outstanding!
Came with a large group of girls during happy hour for a Barcelona-themed birthday. The tapas were the best I've had in the city, by far. The service was amazing - thank you Ethan! The drinks were well-priced and great. And they brought me a birthday candle in a porron which was so special! Had an absolutely amazing experience.
We made a reservation for 7:30pm. Upon checking in, we were told a table wouldn't be available for another hour! We went next door to have a drink, and an hour later the hostess texted us that a table was ready. At the end of our meal, we told our server about this, and she gave us a free round of drinks as a make-good.
The food was good, but not the best tapas I've had in Chicago. The reservation issue will likely prevent me from going back, as I can make reservations at most other places and be seated immediately or soon after.
Amazing drinks with fresh ingredients, including herbs. Fun vibe. Best service in the area. Good selection of Spanish food, tapas or paella to share.
I came here for my birthday dinner. We waited an HOUR for a table with the reservation. Once we were seated we had amazing service and food, but DO NOT come here of you are a large group.
We stopped in for a late night snack and drink after a play at the Chopin Theater. It was a fantastic end to our night. I could eat those olives all night long! yum
not bad, but I wouldn't go again. I like the decor and the staff is very nice
Everything we had was amazing! Especially the Octopus and Croquettes. Some of the most authentic and tasty Spanish Tapas I have had. Definitely recommend!
Black Bull was fantastic! Great Spanish cuisine with unique dishes and excellent service.
Loved the food, delicious! Great wait staff and a great upbeat atmosphere! Perfect for a night out.
A friend of mine was in town so I wanted a cool place for us to visit and I always wonder why I don't got there more often. We got there a little early but were able to settle in at the bar. Ordered a few tapas, sangria and everything was amazing. Great service as well! Can't wait to head back.
Absolutely fantastic dinner. Red sangria was excellent as were all the tapas. The shrimp tapas were out of this world. I gave a lower review for service only because we were initially charged for two items we didn't order. After bringing it to the waiters attention it was quickly resolved and dessert was on the house, so all good in the end!
I don't think I've ever had octopus this good. Iberico-wrapped scallops were another favorite and the selection of Sherry was a great touch. My only criticism lies in the tables. 2-tops were longer than they were wide leaving me closer to the people next to me than I was to my wife. Not a huge problem but enough to be awkward. The solution isn't difficult though: Sit at the bar. The bartenders are attentive and entertaining.
Very happy with my experience at the Black Bull. Good food, good Jerez and very good service. Reasonably priced.
Excellent food and friendly service. Enjoyed the tapas and the manzanilla. Easy access.
Beautiful decor and fixtures. The food is delicious and the servers knowledgeable.
I've always liked Black Bull a lot, but this the last time I was there, the waitress took a really long time to get to our table to take our drink order. I was also disappointed that they didn't have almost a full page of the menu wasn't available including the mussels, which we really wanted and were posted on the online menu. I also feel like a tapas bar should have more seafood- think ceviche. The price and ambience make it worth coming back, but the menu could use some tweaking.
From the first step into the restaurant customer service was perfect. The bartender Steve was quick and explained everything thoroughly for first timers-his dealer choices were amazing. Off to dinner our waitress was also very knowledgeable and attentive. Food was fresh and hot, no mistakes. She was also very helpful as we had a person that was vegetarian in our group. 5 stars.
I love tapas & was really excited to try the raved Black Bull. Unfortunately, we had a 25 minute wait with reservations (we were on time) and although the menu choices were authentic, majority of the picks such as croquetas and patatas or jamon iberico were lack luster and disappointing for the quality vs price. I would highly recommend the octopus and pork tenderloin. Kitchen did a great job on those. Sangria was notable but difficult to share in large group. Overall, I still choose Cafe Iberico if I'm in the mood for tapas. Would go back for ambiance & scene only.
Our experience did not start out on a high note; we were seated at a banquet-style table, which would have been fine other than that I sat on the side that curved around, but didn't extend long enough to reach the table, so in fact my plate was not able to be in front of me and I had to lean to the side the whole time I was eating; it wasn't comfortable and didn't create the best conversational set-up for our group of 3 (we were seated like a TV family; all facing the same direction). Our server tried to explain the menu but she seemed less than interested in talking to us. Truthfully she got better and friendlier as the night went on, and then as we were leaving she did recommend that we check out the speakeasy above the restaurant, which we didn't know about (and we did check out!), but her first impression was not great. Food was just ok. There are much better tapas choices in the city. One of the members of our party is allergic to seafood, and there were very few options for us to choose as a group. It wasn't terrible, but again, if you want tapas, try another place. I WOULD, however, recommend the hidden Speakeasy upstairs!! Great and creative drinks; interesting people and atmosphere.
Cool spot, great food. Very noisy and tables are close together but overall I really enjoyed Black Bull!
Great food and outstanding service experience.
At end of the day we were glad to have tried the restaurant but wont rush back. Sherry was quite cold. Small plates were very very good. Paella mundane. Waiter forgot one small plate we had requested. Did not go hungry but it would have been nice. Waiter did help with very nice wine.
