Saturday 5:00pm - 3:00am
CLOSED Sunday & Monday
Food is always awesome and I love how their menu is seasonal. Although they keep some great items year round. The patio is lovely in the summer, but be prepared for a noisier atmosphere. Overall a great place to dine.
This place was perfect let me tell you! The location was perfect. Food was awesome! Drinks too! My date loved it and she was super impressed. Not badly priced for what you get. If your looking for a nice date night with a little spice then take her here! Thanks to the staff we had an amazing time and I would definitely go back! Bacon wrapped dates are a must try!
We had dinner as a family. Everyone loved it.
The food , flavors and presentation was great ! The wait staff were pleasant ! We had a great time ! They also have a speakeasy bar on the second floor if you want to stay out , I think you need seperate reservations ! We were with our 19 year old and cousins so we just had dinner and left ! Would highly recommend this restaurant to people who love tapas
Lovely ambiance, great food/ drinks loved the sangria! Felt like we were on vacation!
Service was great. Our server was very attentive and explained dishes in detail. Flavors were great. The atun, pulpo and shrimp were best. Meatballs were fair. Red sangria was excellent. Parking was difficult for two guests in my party,
45 minutes wasted searching so alternative means suggested.
first time to Black Bull and what a great experience! We had a nice table by the window and it was a beautiful night. We let the waiter guide us in our selections and that was a great idea - he selected 4-5 dishes for us, each more tasty that the last! What a great evening and we will definitely return!
One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago! The staff is amazing, the seafood is so fresh, and the rib eye is a real treat. I am constantly recommending this place.
We had a great time, as always, when we go to Black Bull. Colleen was our server and she did a great job explaining entrees and wine selections and taking great care of us. Each dish that was dropped off, no matter from whom, was described to us with pride. Excellent food and great meal to share with friends. Thank you!
I took a business crowd to Black Bull for an early dinner. it was a great place to create conversations.
Fantastic food - substandard service
We had a reservation for 9pm but couldn’t be seated at our table so they sat us outside on the patio, it was a warm evening and it was nice to be outdoors.
Food was great, we had garlic prawns, croquettes, dates in bacon and crab empanadas. We had no cutlery and ate our prawns with our hands despite asking multiple serves for cutlery. Drinks were extremely slow to be served as well.
I’d go again because the food really was lovely, the servers were all really nice too but they just didn’t seem to work as a team and that let them down
Excellent tapas and drinks, with outstanding service. If anything the menu was a bit too concise, but that was easily overlooked by the sheer quality of the food.
Service was exceptional.
Every time I have eaten at Black Bull, the food has been outstanding. This was my first time dining on a weekend night, and the meal cake out slow, but being a Spanish joint, I figured that was part of the authentic Spanish experience. Will definitely continue to dine here.
Dillion was a great waiter. Helpful and gave good recommendations. The only thing the staff messed up was bringing up more orders of meatballs than we ordered. Which they gave for free and who hates free meatballs
My friends and I were SO impressed with Black Bull! Our waitress (I'm sorry I forgot your name!) was awesome and went above and beyond making sure we felt comfortable with the menu before ordering, enjoyed our food, and had a great time. We were in a group of 5 girls at a square booth and it was the perfect atmosphere; not so loud that you can't hear each other across the table, but loud enough that you know everyone's having a good time. The food was amazing. Best tapas I've ever had. We will all definitely be back!
Food was very good and authentic. We come from Spanish heritage, couple of us 1st generation, so we are typically more critical than most. We enjoyed the evening and all agreed we would go back. The paellas were very good to excellent for the black paella. tapas were also good but for a group of eight it was expensive if you order enough for everyone to have a piece of ___. Service was excellent and much of this was because we had Julia. If you want to make the experience a complete success it can happen with Julia. As for value, it was on the pricey side for this type of dining. For most folks this is not something you can do on a regular basis. that said, we are already planning our next visit.
Excellent food. Chef Tony and Chef Ames made nicely prepared Cochinillo, Chuleton, and Paella Valenciana and other surprises. Drinks were excellent especially the Citrus and the Sangria. The restaurant was lively and our server, Angela, was attentive and friendly. We have eaten at Black Bull multiple times and will definitely return.
Great food. Never disappointed with the chefs creative mix of flavors
Great food !
Chef Tony is an artist, bringing Spain to Chicago without the kitch
Epic experience (as always!!). I always enjoy black bull even if it's just for a drink at the bar or if it's a full sit down meal. I also enhoy bringing any out of town guests I have here. Always amazing good, service, and ambiance. Highly recommend black bull!!
La comida excelente, solo que envié un email al contacto porque creo haber dejado una chaqueta en el restaurant, y no me contestaron.
The food is decent, but over priced for the amount that you receive and the quality. We ordered the Tataki de Atun, Vieiras Con Jamon, Pollo A'Last, and the Pulpo. The Pulpo was by far the best dish and I would order this again - delicious char grilled flavor and cooked perfectly. The Vierira con jamon (iberico ham wrapped scallops) were good, but you only receive two. The Pollo was $13 for a single small chicken thigh and a smear of roasted eggplant puree. Lastly, the tuna was decent, but lacked in overall flavor.
Better than the previous because we got more cochinito than the last.
We reserved a table for four, and we were directed upstairs to the speakeasy while we waited for our table. About an hour later, a server told us we’d have to wait longer for our actual table so we only had the option of eating at the speakeasy. We initially agreed, although upset because we had a res, and were seated at a tiny table in the dark speakeasy. We had an overpriced cheese plate and they gave us complimentary sangria (which was very nice), but ultimately decided to leave since the table was not big enough for four for dinner, and we couldn’t even see what we were eating. Hopefully they can work better to accommodate reservations, but We will not be returning.
Servings are small
fusion Spanish not all Spanish food.
Trying to hard to be Spanish.
More hipster than Spanish
service from julia was absolutely perfect--she's knowledgeable, not at all intrusive, and seemed genuinely invested in our experience. gin tonics were tasty, sangria packed a punch, and the food was reminiscent of our time in spain. this would be a great place to bring a group for lots of tapas! we especially liked the pintxos, the albondigas, and the pulpo.
Julia was an amazing server. She had great recommendations and even better service. She made our experience there even more enjoyable. Very sexy venue that I would recommend for a date night!
Our favorite tapas in Chicago. Amazing and super authentic. Just like we had in Spain.
Pretty disappointed in the food, wasn’t as good as the server raved it was. Also super hot in the restaurant. They did give us a desert on the house which was nice.
The food was the only thing that kept us happy. Cocktails were boring and not many to choose from. The service was slow and the server didn’t even know we were there. We had come in feeling good about our last minute change but we should’ve went to Tapas Barcelona instead.
Looooves! Was in town for a trip and randomly found Black Bull via Open Table. What a wonderful find! The ambiance/vibe was warm, sultry and fun. The service was bomb. And the food & cocktails/wine were to die for. Wish I lived in the area and could make it a regular go-to!
We were the only table and the servers were chit chatting near the bar looking directly at us and did not greet us at all it took me asking the bus boy to ask the server to come over before anything happened.
Fantastic food, service, atmosphere.....everything!
I used to really like Black Bull when the menu had more items and the prices were lower. I wanted things like spicy potatoes and goat cheese (things that used to be on the menu) but they were no longer served. Compared to other Spanish restaurants in Chicago that I have been to (Cafe Iberico, Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba) this menu was very limited and it would have been less disappointing if the menu had been like this forever but it has not. It used to have way more items (and affordable ones as well) but nowadays its a limited set with average prices for even the smaller plates on the higher side.
My friend and I ordered 4 total food items (including empanadas and paella) and a pitcher of sangria and paid $134 (including tip and taxes) - I just don't feel I got my money's worth and neither did she. I thought we grossly overpaid for the food. The paella was really salty and we ended up leaving half of it. The highlight of our dinner were the gambas al ajillo which were very tasty but this one good item wasn't able to make up for the rest of the experience.
I won't be returning here as the menu is limited and my experience with the food wasn't good. The prices are on the higher end - I just don't think I can come here with a friend and not spend over $110 eating less than 5 items if we were to get drinks as well. I've been to other places where I pay that and get several more items at a cheaper price. I don't know if the management changed that made the menu change but it this restaurant isn't what it used to be in my eyes. Which is a shame because I used to really like it.
Very impressed by the food especially the black paella. Also tried the Cochinillo and it was great , definitely will be back
Wonderful food and wine. Staff was amazing! Will definitely be going back for more!
Had guest in from out of town and we all loved it!
Celebrated my birthday dinner there last night and we had such a great time!! We all loved the decor, food, drinks and service was amazing! Totally priced well and we can’t wait to go back. There wasn’t anything we didn’t love or wouldn’t recommend. Thanks for making my night so special!!
Everything was incredible. Food, service, atmosphere.
