Great place!!! Can’t wait to go back :)
Excellent food and service! I would highly recommend!
Mediocre food for b&t finance bros and their hoes. Room is cute. Acoustics are terrible.
While the food was good - the service was atrocious. Our waiter never came around to clear our starters (we had to flag someone down for that), and never told us that our food had been delayed (I think he forgot as other tables had theirs arrive and ordered after the four of us did). He then took 20 minutes to bring our bill and return the card - really disappointed.
Excellent service et qualité de plats hors du commun.
Excellent (but not overly attentive) service, surprisingly generous portions, nuance of flavors in each dish (especially the tuna), and the heavy pour on glasses of wine was much appreciated. I recommend the cauliflower as a filling veg option. Well worth the price - upscale but not stuffy. The space is large, so tables are not cramped. Will return.
The food, drinks and atmosphere were great! Our server seemed very disengaged and apathetic as if she was doing us a favor by waiting on us. She initially rattled off some specials or something, then promptly walked away before I could tell her I only heard about two words she said. My cocktail, that I knew was incorrect by appearance as the server put it on the table, was missing the key ingredient, Grand Marnier; but the server insisted that it definitely had the GM in it. I asked her to bring a small shot to add to my drink. Instead of bringing it back, she wandered around checking on other tables, going to the kitchen, etc. and never brought it back. Another waiter who knew a guest at our table stopped by to check on us and immediately corrected the drinks. As a result, I did not have the correct drink for at least 15 minutes. Also, although I indicated that we were celebrating a special occasion when I booked my Open Table reservation, at no time did our server or a manager acknowledge this by offering congratulations or greetings. I would return to Black Barn again based on the food and atmosphere, in hopes that the service was only a fluke.
This is such a fun place! Happy hour is a blast and the food is inventive without being precious.
Love the vibe and the rooms. First time there for brunch and the food was amazing and their was live music, too, which was so great!
Will be back for brunch! And Happy Hour, too!
The food and ambiance is lovely, as always (I am a many time over repeat diner) but I was dismayed at the service and won’t be going back.
I came with my one year old and asked to put in an order for a couple items right away before the others in our group had decided, so I could get her food in front of her ASAP. I was told that the kitchen/computer/ticketing system wouldn’t allow for multiple orders. I pressed the waitress and eventually a manager came over and reiterated this same message. It’s worth noting that at a previous visit, they accommodated this request, no problem.
It’s absolutely absurd, considering drink and appetizer orders go in ahead of time all the time at restaurants. Seems disgraceful to not allow for a two-stage order to get a child fed.
Sadly, I won’t be returning.
Service was not good - everything else was good!
I did find a piece of plastic in my food though....
Staff and chef was amazing!!!! Great food and drinks
Service was absolutely awful.
Great waitress. Good bread. Cold food.
I was early for my reservation so I sat down at a table in the bar while waiting for my friend to arrive. I waited for someone to come take my drink order. After about 10 minutes I went to the bar and bought a glass of wine and returned to the table. A minute later the hostess came by and told me I could not sit there because I had not ordered from the table. Then she banished me to a barstool at the charcuterie bar to wait while the table sat empty. Beyond annoying! The experience pretty much ruined my evening. I know this restaurant is better than this.
Great food. Portions were on the smaller side.
Everything was great!
We were there for brunch. The food was great, the portions were large, you could carry on a conversation and the wait staff did not rush us. We would go back.
Went for Sunday brunch and it was outstanding!!! We have been to Black Barn for dinner a number of times and it is always excellent but our first time for brunch. The menu is so interesting and creative and everything we ordered was very good. Highly recommend it!
We dined here rather late on a Saturday night and definitely appreciated their late happy hour menu, including some delicious comfort food items. It's a spacious venue with a rustic but modern feel to it and worked great for us as a group.
Comfortable atmosphere, approachable menu. Chef John Doherty and his staff have it down!Every bite had me pausing for a moment of appreciation. Service to match. Come and you'll be telling all your friends about your new favorite NYC restaurant.
Fantastic as always. Brought 4 friends who were new to Blackbarn and they loved it. Food is so delicious and flavorful with interesting combinations of spices and foods.
The food in the main dining room was delicious. bar menu is different from main dining room. So if u want something more casual the bar is n option. WE had the duck and lamb dishes, they were full of flavor. Both of us truly enjoyed out meal.
I used open table to find a restaurant near the theater we were seeing a show at. They offered an 8:45 time slot which was perfect. I understood the restaurant closed at 9 but assumed that wouldn't affect our experience. I was wrong. We arrive at 8:52 were seated and were immediately given our menus and informed the kitchen closed at 9 and that our waitress wanted to take our food orders before we ordered drinks. I can't even tell you how embarrassing was. First of all I chose the restaurant for to celebrate my birthday and had not only family with me but business clients. One of my family members owns several very successful restaurants and has been working in restaurant his entire life. His observation was that a chef must own or run the place because not in his wildest dreams would he ever rush a table of customers to order based on what the kitchen wants to do. If you offer an 8:45 reservation, then you better assume that people may not be ready to order by 9. That seems pretty reasonable to me. But to be rushed immediately after sitting down pretty much tainted the experience of have a nice celebratory meal. The waitress continued to not really give darn about us. She took drink orders for half the table and ran off, not to be seen. --- The food was excellent, the place is beautiful and I would go back. But... this one experience was not a very good one when I went out of my way to find a place I wanted to have a good time on my birthday at.
Overall good variety of food. Don’t expect to find a burger on the menu, though!
Delicious brunch, huge portions!
Amazing 💚. The food and drinks were beyond.
Amazing array of meats; great service; fun seating; open kitchen
Delicious food and great service. Also loved the decor.
Food was pretty good, ambience was great
The food wad excellent. My date and i had an enjoyable experience..
Excellent service and meal for Valentine's Day. Ribs were amazing as was steak. Great wine too as recommended by them
Valentine’s Day Menu. Loved the truffle mac and cheese,
Went here for Valentine’s Day and had an amazing time. Food is great and the atmosphere is really cute/romantic.
Steak was dry, food was cold. Overall, the food wasn't worth the price. The service was good however
When I made a reservation, there was not a prefix menu specified for Valentine’s Day. Many other restaurants on open-table offered a prefix, but I specifically chose this restaurant because of the a la carts menu and no special menu on Valentine’s Day.
Sommelier was impressive and the food was grossly over portioned.
Despite arriving on time, we weren't sat until 45 minutes past our reservation time. French fries were over salted. The Brussels sprouts were way over cooked. We barely ate any of them. Would have loved to have let our waiter know, but no one ever asked us how our meal was. They seemed to do a drive by water glass refill, but that's about it.
I will say that the overall ambiance was lovely. Total upscale rustic feel. And the bone marrow and cocktails were absolutely sublime. I had high expectations for Black Barn and I'm super disappointed. I probably won't return or recommend it in the future.
Great option for business lunch! Delicious food, great service and central location.
Was excited about the chance to eat at Black Barn. Had read good reviews, liked the pictures and menu, and the location seemed great. However was really disappointed by a combinations of things including the service, food, and price paid. Service was not anything interesting - gentleman seemed in a rush and not interested in giving his recommendation. Food was very disappointing from start to finish (charcuterie board was weak, other main dishes were so so). The price paid was $90/person with only one drink and app/person. I know it's New York, but this felt excessive given the quality of food.
