Black Barn Ratings and Reviews
When I made a reservation, there was not a prefix menu specified for Valentine’s Day. Many other restaurants on open-table offered a prefix, but I specifically chose this restaurant because of the a la carts menu and no special menu on Valentine’s Day.
Sommelier was impressive and the food was grossly over portioned.
Despite arriving on time, we weren't sat until 45 minutes past our reservation time. French fries were over salted. The Brussels sprouts were way over cooked. We barely ate any of them. Would have loved to have let our waiter know, but no one ever asked us how our meal was. They seemed to do a drive by water glass refill, but that's about it.
I will say that the overall ambiance was lovely. Total upscale rustic feel. And the bone marrow and cocktails were absolutely sublime. I had high expectations for Black Barn and I'm super disappointed. I probably won't return or recommend it in the future.
Ordered the grilled octopus app. it came with one small pulpo. Apps are meant to be shared, so the portion was inadequate. Very good none the less. Scallop entree consisted of 3 scallops, again portion size an issue. Filet mignon entree delish size expected. I really enjoyed the sunchokes. Waiter was hard to hear spoke too fast and way too low.
Excellent food, service and ambience - I had the Restaurant Week menu and it was generous in terms of choice, especially for Restaurant Week. I went early, at 11:30am, and had a relatively quiet dining experience, but the tables were all full and the lobby was full of awaiting diners by 12:30pm.
Wild boar raviolo was out of this world. Mushroom toast was disappointing. Had trouble finding a wine I liked but ultimately did. You can only put in an order in full; you can’t put in an appetizer first then the meal, which I found odd given that I made the app request as soon as the waiter came to take our drink order. So it wouldn’t have delayed anything. Not was the restaurant crowded so it wouldn’t have held up forthcoming dinner guests. Otherwise it was great.
I totally loved it...great food and ambiance. Each portion was enormous but all 4 of us managed to finish every morsel....really, really delicious. Staff was well informed, helpful and friendly without being intrusive in any way. Only complaint was that it was too loud for some of our party but we loved it!!! A fun evening and can hardly wait to return!!
The service at our brunch today was poor and unacceptable for the price point. The hostess was arrogant, dismissive and incredibly unwelcoming when checking us in. The waiter was aloof, passive and disinterested in our presence. For the prices at brunch, our food was totally uninspired and lacking in flavor. I had come for drinks and dinner a few weeks ago and enjoyed the energetic atmosphere, but the service during that visit was unremarkable. Today's visit seals the deal: we will never come back or recommend this spot until others expressly confirm that service has improved.
Management -- please take notice.
Appetizers were the Kale salad and the White pizza - both very good. The Entrees were the tuna, the boar's ragu raviolo and the filet mignon. All were very good, but the winner was the raviolo - excellent. Good bottle wine selections too. I asked the waiter to substitute the mac and cheese side on the $58 dollar filet entree with fries (since they were going by me and I saw they had them) but he said no. That was a surprise, and something I would not expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Also, he did not bother to even ask anyone whether it could be done. We had two expensive bottles of wine, and racked up quite a big bill, so, that gives me pause when i think of returning to this restaurant.
Extremely disappointed, especially after having read good reviews about this place. The scallops were too salty and the chicken was sub-par. Had two bites of the chicken and sent the rest back. Our server was too daft to even inquire whether anything was wrong with the food given we had barely eaten any of it.
