Black Barn Ratings and Reviews
I originally had a 1246 reservation for a party of five. Four out of five people were there on time. I was told that was fine as long as we could order upon sitting which was not a problem. Time went by and it wasn’t until we asked to speak to the manager that we were told that if your party is not there within 15 Mom you lose your spot for a table. This was never told to ya not once. However upon sitting we had amazing waitstaff who went above and beyond and we received many complementary items. Overall job well saved
I have been here a several times, drinks are great, lunch is pretty descent , the dinner menu is weak and the food the past three times has been really bad not to mention two other people I know have gotten sick from the raw seafood at this restaurant the past two weeks.
The service was very slow for the most part. Was hard to get water. They required that we put our full order in at the same time but didn't bring our food at the same time and forgot one of the main dishes. The fries were cold so they sent a new batch and took some of the dishes off the bill without us having to ask. Overall its a good option in the neighborhood but there is always something a bit off.
Brunch didn’t live up to expectations . I’ve been there for dinner a couple times and the food and service were excellent. This time, everything was just off. We got the appetizer 2 minutes before entrees arrived. We got our cocktails after our entrees arrived. Bread service was also sent to us after entrees arrived. The shrimp and grits entree was just meh, the shrimp was over cooked and the grits were not seasoned at all. Oh, and we waited 30 minutes for someone to clear the table and give us the check. Very disappointing because I really did like this place.
Have eaten at Black Barn a number of times and it's always very good. Food is top notch, service is helpful without being pushy. One doesn't get the sense that the restaurant is playing a volume game, trying to get you in and out as fast as possible. Menu is expansive. To me, it's the best bet in this part of Manhattan.
I was so curious about this restaurant so I decided to try it with a group of friends.
The place looks good - although it is not my style - the tables are big and the chairs very comfortable but the level of noice is so high that it is impossible to talk if you are more than 4 (we were 10). In any case the food is good but I hoped in a better level. The best part is the dessert. They have a very great and tasty variety of cakes .
The overall assessment is that you overpay for what you get.
What a huge disappointment all around. Not one part of this meal was as good as I thought it was going to be.
My partner is having surgery Monday so we could not drink alcohol. The waiter seemed ticked off so we ordered bottled water and diet cokes. that was $16 so much better than just tap water.
We ordered the $54 filet which came with truffle mac n cheese, a salad and 2 shrimp on top. The dressing on the salad was so salty it was inedible. The mac was greasy --the flavor was ok but the grease was a turn off. The steak had zero flavor and there was some watery substance poured over the top of it with no taste either. There were 2 shrimp on top. Even Ruth's Chris gives you 3.
The bus boy brought us a streak knife as we were finishing our meal and was like "sorry". A good waiter would have brought that right over from the start.
The bread basket has flavorless bread straws that tasted burned. There was one roll and two slices of bread -- neither of those were exceptional either. They gave a block of butter with one drop of balsamic vinegar on it -- really --one drop what do you think that is going to add? I can tell you -- nothing.
We were going to get dessert but the waiter never one came over to ask how our meal was or why we only ate about 1/2 of the food. I wasn't going to stick around for another disappointment.
So 2 steaks , a bottle of water and diet cokes was over $160. None of the food held any value and I would never return. Poor service with even poorer food. This was my number one pick for our trip. I was a fool.
did a dinner here with friends - a catch up dinner. we were all running late but thankfully was able to push the rez by 30 min. the front area is small and intimate, dark and the back area is large, bright (i loved it). i love the idea of a rustic setting and i was super surprised by how big the place actually is. the open kitchen is so nice. started off the evening with cocktails (we kept it flowing bc we all had long days - i recommend the resposado and mezcal and nomad cocktails they are amazing!! we all had about 2-3 cocktails each - then we ordered the bone marrow, pizza, octopus and 2 servings of the gnocchi OMG they were all so good. then we had 2 ducks and 2 ribs. both dishes were SO good, they are a must order. i will be back for sure!
Food is EXCELLENT !!
Ambiance is GREAT!!
But the owner needs to send some of his staff to Hospitality school. Rude, self important & unprofessional ... especially the blonde at the door on 10/17/17 at 6:00
There are too many GREAT restaurants in NYC .... good food is a big part ....but the EXPERIENCE is also as important!!!
Would never return!
