What Insiders Are Saying
BKW is the Prospect Heights restaurant from Brooklyn Winery. It isn't especially exciting, but it's a good place to get a bite if wine is a priority.
Was perfect place to meet up with friends for a bite to eat and cocktails before a 530 entry to the David Bowie exhibit. And, they had Bowie playing on the sound system while we dined. Shared several small plates -- all delicious.
We were told the food is made for sharing but the portion isn’t big. So we ordered 7 dishes to shared at the end. Foods were fantastic, it was the best after I tried quite a few nice listing in Manhattan, but no smiles welcomed us. One of the staff accidentally spilled our wine but did not apologise.
We were excited to visit but ended up leaving largely disappointed. Service was friendly but mostly slow and inattentive, some of the food was unexpectedly spicy in ways that were unnecessary (the chimichurri dipping sauce for the fries is hotter than any chimichurri I've ever had, which was particularly disappointing given that one of the other three sauces is "hot and spicy," leaving us with only an uninteresting saffron option)even to the point of being inedible (e.g the calamari, which wasn't described on the menu as spicy). The sliders were very good as was the shrimp, but two big misses on four dishes makes for a disappointing evening -- particularly when you can't get a waiter's attention, no one comments on the fact you are not touching one of the dishes at all and the busboy doesn't bring the items asked for. I'd say skip it.
V nice waited, I believe his name was Alex.
Food v good, great drinks, comfortable seating.
We just shared a few appetizers and had a Bowie themed cocktail prior to seeing the Bowie Is exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. The hummus was flavorful and satisfying. Our server JJ couldn't have been more pleasant. He went out of his way to ask the bartender for a vegan option in a cocktail I was interested in and made sure to ask the chef if there were additional vegan options available. We purchased a bottle of rose to go as well. Wonderful experience!
The four of us came in for lunch after a morning at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. It is 7min away by car. We ordered 7 plates..........wonderful, tasty, incredible plates of food. We enjoyed our lunch, every bite, every morsel. What a find in the neighborhood. It was delicious!
Our compliments to the chef, Debra! Best of Everything to you.
They recently changed their menu and it's a change for the worse. they seem to be only offering small plates and its a limited selection. i hope they go back to their previous approach.
There were two of us- out for an afternoon in Brooklyn to see an art exhibit at the nearby Brooklyn Museum. The food was good; most of what is on the menu (which is select) was what I would classify as comfort food: calamari, mussels, beef sliders, brussel sprouts, mac and cheese, Spanish tortilla (which seemed more like a quiche). All of the food was good quality and properly prepared but nothing that I would rave about. Our server was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is pretty basic. The wine list and possibly some of the drink specials are the real "pull". For what we ate it was a little on the pricey side for something so casual. In another location the price would have been 15-20%. Then again- it is NY.
The food was excellent! I've been here a few times with my husband for brunch. Our server J.J. was great. We love the restaurant. It's definitely a must try.
Didn’t like the change in menu format
The Okey-Dokey flight was great and I really enjoyed everything my party had (cheese plate, pate crostini, shishitos and cheese curds).
We also had pretty good service and I recommend BKW to anyone.
Came here for my Birthday drinks and food were amazing. David Bowie drinks were delish!
The cocktails and wine have always been solid, but unfortunately the food menu has greatly declined. Our group was very disappointed with the new "share menu". Prices are high for the quality and portion size. $12 brussel sprouts and $7 fries need to deliver, and they just don't. They're edible, but just about anywhere else in the neighborhood will serve a better version for a more reasonable price. I had one meat dish, the pork and it was small and just underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, I am happy to pay fine dining prices for a fine dining experience, but the food has to be of fine dining caliber. Additionally, BKW used to be vegan friendly, but the new menu lacks a solid vegan meal option. To the servers' and chef's credit, they did try to offer adjustment options for the vegan in our group, but the substitutions were less than inspiring. The old menu had bountiful meal options for everyone and we were more than happy to pay a premium for a premium experience. We'll probably be back for cocktails and wine, but we'll pass on food unless the menu changes for the better.
Great food & drinks for a date night! Ambiance was casual yet trendy.
Great atmosphere and very relaxing. Food was yummy.
The Restaurant Week menu was generous and included a glass of wine. Unfortunately the food and the wine were both a bit disappointing. I probably would have been much more disappointed had I paid full price. The service, however, was prompt and attentive.
Very nice. Beautiful setting. Tasty food good drinks.
I cannot remember the last time I had pancakes that tasty, seriously! Also, the hurricane mimosa was excellent, appropriately portioned for $10 too. Tom, our waiter, is a good guy with a great sense of humor. I'm sure my friends will want to do brunch here at least once a month now.
I’m surprised by the good reviews. It just seemed like a slightly nicer Applebee’s. The food was average; nothing we couldn’t have made ourselves and not very inventive or creative. It was painful to spend $120 on dinner here.
We were there for a date during the special week (three course menu for $42, dinner).
The wine was really good, but the food was nothing special. It was good, but just not exceptional. The brussel sprouts were amazing though! The service was very nice and we felt well. We might come back, but we wouldn’t say that we definitely loved this place.
The Olive Oil Madelines are a must!
My husband and I had a great time at BKW the other night. I have dietary restrictions that I like to be as low-maintenance as possible about, but the staff there was more than accommodating and our server was on it. We had a lovely meal along with some great wines. Great experience. I highly recommend this sweet little spot.
This is a pleasant spot with a limited food menu. The dishes are tasty and well cooked comfort food. The wine is produced, mostly from local Long Island grapes at their establishment in Williamsburg. The wines are good, reasonably priced but not spectacular. It is a bit of a hike from Manhattan but it is a good addition to the neighborhood.
delicious food and wasn't crazy expensive. Will be going back for sure!
Best restaurant week option ever! Prix fixe includes a glass of wine! There aren't too many NYC Restaurant week options in Brooklyn but this one is a must and the top of our list when it's time to make reservations. This was the second time we have enjoyed this restaurant for restaurant week and it impressed another set of friends. Service is excellent. They were able to modify our reservation in a pinch when I realized the night before that I had booked a table for 2 instead of 4 and they cheerfully subbed a gluten free dessert option for my husband.
Great service lovely ambiance and the food was also very good definitely recommend this spot to everyone
Wonderful atmosphere, fantastic food, great presentation. Practically the best brussels sprouts appetizer I have ever had (if you like them crispy). Cod entree is perfection. Rice pudding desert wasn't my favorite, but everything else was top notch.
Celebrated birthday during restaurant week.
Not a very pleasant hostess, example: 2 diners, restaurant almost empty, being seated at a small table, asking the hostess for a bigger one, the answer - "unfortunately we are seating guests according to the party size". Well, fortunately there are plenty of other decent restaurants where you get a different answer, even if they can't accommodate your request.
The food could be quite OK, short for strange combination of spices.
Bread is not being served, when asked for it, got 2 slices and ended up with a $2.00 charge on the bill, no prior warning of the charge.
Service is basic.
Overall, for us it is a trip, absolutely not worse it. I see stopping by once in a while, if dwelling in the neighborhood.
Very tasty, 1st time eating in dining area, usually my daughter and i sit at the bar late nite
The BK wine selection is just great, one of the best brunch and Bloody Mary in the neighborhood!
She kissed me at the end :)
Server was great in helping as we had some dairy concerns and was proactive about it, even came back to let us know after we ordered that something had cheese it in. Great service and the food in general was great. Sprouts were amazing.
Great service as everyone was welcoming from the minute the door opened. The food was very good as well. I went there for brunch and had the potatoes, french toast and scones. Everything tasted fresh and as if it was made with care and love. Will be back there for another meal.
The food was good, but I wouldn't say it was exceptional. The winning element here is the wine, made by the Brooklyn Winery. The bartender let us try quite a few, and they were great. We ended up buying quite a few as holiday gifts and for ourselves. The service was good overall, and the ambiance was nice.
Great brunch. Loved the food. Great neighborhood gem.
We were there on a Saturday afternoon. The place was very nice. Service and food was very good. The menu items were creative.
We have been to BKW many times and are never disappointed. The menu changes frequently, highlighting seasonal ingredients, and is always delicious; the wine is great, and the servers knowledgable, to boot; the desserts are fabulous and also vary with the season. Also, their frequent diners reward system is excellent — get a free card and earn points every time you go toward free bottles of wine, a visit to their production facility, etc. Can't recommend highly enough for brunch or a special dinner!
Growing disappointed with our go-to dinner date option, we went looking for something new. We found what we were looking for at bkw -- the setting was comfortable and date-worthy, ab the food was satisfying. One of us got the tasting menu with the wine pairings, so we tried 4 bkw wines between us and left with a bottle of red we both liked. Dishes were well composed, interesting and enjoyable. We will be coming back.
