I rarely write negative reviews, but I felt that I had to after my recent dinner at BKB. I just dined there for the fourth time. Each time the service has been worse and they really seem not to care.
This past Saturday night the restaurant was almost full and the kitchen appeared to be unable to handle it. After we were seated, no one approached our table for about ten minutes. The server finally appeared, seemed exasperated, apologized and said that they "being slammed."
We ordered a bottle of wine which took at least twenty minutes to arrive. We ordered and our appetizers took thirty minutes, although they were pretty simple. We had to ask for bread because it still hadn't arrived. The main courses took another thirty minutes and we finally had to ask he gentlemen at the check-in desk if he could inquire. Our server had been MIA for awhile. That gentleman then brought the mains to us. Neither our server nor the manager (Eric?) ever inquired as to whether the food or anything else was satisfactory. The manager, however, had plenty of time to dote on two attractive women at a nearby table, frequently kneeling on the floor by their table to talk to them and personally prepare and bring them several rounds of drinks. He also appeared to rudely respond to another diner who confronted him about the poor service he was receiving. All in all, the food is pretty good once they get it to you and the ambiance is quite nice, although both of the desserts we ordered were not good and we had to request a knife to cut the extremely hard crust on both the key lime and the strudel . But of course no one ever asked how the desserts were. Don't think we will return, Just not a good overall experience.

Plus: plenty of room between tables and the restaurant isn't noisy. Minus: food is fine, a little overpriced, but the service is slow, sporadic and generally indifferent. Don't go for a special occasion or if you are in a hurry.

Incredible experience! Was catching up with an old friend it this was the perfect spot. The owner was working that evening and made our visit absolutely spectacular! The lobster roll was to die for and I cannot wait to visit their main location in East Hampton.

I received two reservation confirmations plus a notice how many minutes to allow to get there on time....arrived 15 minutes early...in record breaking sub zero temps...and the restaurant WAS NOT OPEN !!! Dark inside...chairs stacked on the tables...no signs of life.
I never received an email, phone call or text that they could not honor my reservation.
I hope everyone was OK....BUT...off my future list. No follow to date either. . 😁
Forced to give a rating above in order to submit...but they get a big fat ZERO !!!

We ordered the sliders (lobster, crab and fluke) and crab cakes for apps. The sliders are the best thing on the menu but at $30 bucks they are really overpriced.

We both the Montauk yellowfin. Very average - only side was a couple pretty bland mushrooms. I was still very hungry.

The service was about as bad as could be. We were ignored for 20 minutes after being seated. The waiter just was not the least bit attentive. Finally, the menus arrived, but then no waiter again for quite a long period of time. The food, when we got it, was OK, only, and the prices were no less than what one pays at Atlantic Grill, a short walk from BKB. BKB in the Hamptons is very good. This was a complete surprise. I won't return.

Every summer, my family and I go to Bay Kitchen Bar in East Hampton. So you can imagine we were excited to see they had opened a place in the city. BKB however, may still be working out some of the kinks of opening a new place.

It took us nearly a half hour to get our cocktails (and mind you, the place was not yet full). It also took a while for us to get our main courses. To end the night, nearly two hours after we first sat down, my family ordered a dessert for my birthday. Only, the restaurant had no candles.

On a positive note, the staff was very friendly and working as hard as they could. We love Bay Kitchen Bar and hope they're successful in the city.

The restaurant has a Cape Cod menu (e.g., seafood, lobster rolls, etc...) and a modern NYC industrial fusion décor. Hard to pin down the vibe of the place because it was all over the place. Food was good, service was nice, but we left not necessarily jumping for joy that we found a new favorite place to eat and that we will go back. It was clear that the décor and menu was done by "committee" (essentially satisfying everyone's requests) and not committed to any type of style or direction. So, there it is....

BKB.. Food was okay, decent size portion but instead of getting a crispy Czech style 1/2 duck as was explained to me by the server (and since the restaurant is in the Czech National Hall building) I thought I was safe ordering it! The duck was fair and it came just like that! Just the half duck on the plate. No side dish, no dumplings ,no potato, just the duck. a $34.00 rip off.
My partner had the fluke. Again for a $32.00 price tag do you think you could add a half an ounce of rice or something?
The bar and the wonderful glass floor in front of it are still the same however, the Kegs and working taps and hoses of the wonderful draft beer you used to see while looking down into the refrigerated tap room on the lower level has been replace with a storage room. ?? Go figure?
The Decor of the place has changed and all the beautiful hand carved wood of the former Hospoda restaurant is unfortunately gone, replaced by what looks like cheap, white shower curtains through out the room.
Very expensive and not waling away feeling good about it!

The ambiance and service were both quite good, however the entree quality and preparation was below average. We began our evening with a nice selection of oysters by the half and a tuna tartar derivation. Both of these we were quite pleased with. For dinner we had salmon and swordfish prepared with risotto and Israelis couscous, respectively. The portion sizes were small. The flavor was poor. Both pieces of fish were overcooked. We skipped desert and went home. We will contine to go to the Atlantic Grill when we have a craving for seafood on the UES.

Minor problems, but enough of them to add up to not wanting to return. 1) The two of us were first shown to a table at the back of the room, right next to a large party with an infant. There were at least two open tables up front near the windows. We requested relocation, and got it, no problem, but still: why not seat us there to begin with? 2) We were not told about specials, learning of their existence only as we were leaving and overheard our waiter reciting them at the table next to us. 3) Out of our requested Tanqueray gin. Usually not a problem for us; many restaurants just don't stock it. However, their cocktail list features a cocktail that uses it, so really ought to be able to keep it in stock. Plus, there's a liquor store just around the corner at 74th & 1st, so why not just send someone out for a bottle? 3) One main course came out at room temperature. (We requested it be warmed, and it was, so that's OK.) May have something to do with the kitchen being downstairs and servers having to climb up & down constantly. 4) Scallops in main course tasted past their prime. The dish compared poorly to one that was almost exactly the same that we enjoyed a few days before at Brasserie 8 1/2, where it was also a better value. 5) Chocolate bombe dessert was handled oddly: when hot chocolate sauce was poured over the nice little chocolate ball by the server, it basically shriveled away to nothing. At least the chocolate ice cream remained intact.

From the moment we walked in, we were treated like celebrities. The oysters were the best I have had in as long as I can remember. We also ordered a slider plate to share, and I promise that I will be back just for those on nights I am just looking for a snack with the girls to pair with their great mixed cocktails. We went on to share the chicken (which felt like a haute thanksgiving) and of course we shared a lobster roll. It felt like vacation!
We rounded out the night with desserts from the acclaimed pastry chef, and could not stop until every dish was devoured.
Eric and Cathy Miller have done it again, and I am thankful this time it's in my neighborhood.
I will be back and back and back.

This is one of the best seafood restaurants in which we've ever dined. The crab cakes were well seasoned, the lobster roll was very generous and crunchy, the scallops were perfectly crisped and so was the salmon skin. We were with friends and she said that this is the first time in may years that she has eaten everything on her plate! Don't miss the chocolate bomb dessert and some of the specialty cocktails. Our only complaint is that our server neglected to tell us that there was a seafood mixto. It looked yummy so when we return we'll try it. Will definitely bring along more friends.

Food was very good. Our appetizer of steamers was tasty but a bit sandy. The special soup was nice but I thought it was too expensive at $16. Entrees were delicious, we had the salmon and the fluke, which a re fresh and locally sourced. All the servers are young and attentive but seemed like they were still learning their craft. I will definitely go back because I think they will work out these problems.

Great addition to the area. Delicious food, excellent service and warm and welcoming ambiance. I've been here many times for happy hour ( great oysters!) and dinner. The wine list is interesting and the mixed drinks delicious and changes frequently. The bartender is creative. Truthfully always enjoyed my meals. Been told BKB will be open for brunch soon. Hurrah!!

Oysters were amazing. We would definitely go back for the Oyster happy hour! Only downside was that our server was new ( there for a few weeks) and it was very apparent. Although he was nice, he couldn't answer any of our questions about the menu. We also had to ask for our water glasses refilled and for bread -came out with our appetizers. Drinks were very expensive.

This is a place that you would expect downtown, not in the heart of stuffy and uncool UES. Spacious, modern ambience, hip waiters and a programmatic seafood menu - the only thing reminding you that you're not somewhere below 34th street is the averge age of the guests. As for the food: delicious, simple as well as inventive items and incredible desserts. We will be back!

Dining at BKB was like going on a very bad first date while keeping your hopes very high. I did read good reviews and decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately the restaurant offers happy hour only at the bar, which makes me wonder if the business strategy actually works. The service is very pretentious despite the fact that the original BKB restaurant is a neighborhood gem in the Hamptons. My guess is the manager could not bring friendliness over the LIE. There was only one server on duty covering eight tables or so. Our water glasses were not refilled promptly, our drinks were " prepared" for hours. I literally got my first drink after the appetizers were served. We were not informed of any specials, bread was delivered to our table after several reminders to the bus boy only because the waiter was nowhere to be seen. I did see a party of six complaining to the manger about the poor service.
If BKB is known for its close ties to Hamptons and promotion of a nautical theme, one would assume the seafood selection should be perfect. Guess NOT!!! Oysters were soggy and swimming in iced water by the time the tray was placed on our cramped table. Not sure why should wait this long! My husband's trio of various mini seafood sandwiches was mediocre; despite our request for medium rare burgers, they came out overly done. It goes back to poor communication between the diners and the wait staff.
Overall would I go back , absolutely NOT!

Have been there many times. I often walk in for happy hour and eat near the bar. This was my first regular meal at BKB. Outstanding Raw Bar. The oysters are as good as you will find anywhere in NYC, and they are served chilled to perfection. Outstanding fish. Inventive and tasty appetizers. I look forward to returning so I can try the short rib that I sampled as a small appetizer. Service was very attentive and the manager worked the room professionally, making sure that every table had a positive experience. Oh yeah, they also have great specialty cocktails.

Having arrived early my friend asked for a certain moderately-priced scotch which the bar did not carry. He asked the female bartender for a recommendation she suggested Johnnie Walker- Red, Black or Blue. My friend ordered a glass of the Blue. When I arrived, we got ready to be seated and he asked for the tab on his drink and his wife's glass of wine. Imagine the shock of learning that the bill was $68- with $50 for a small glass of Johnnie Walker Blue.

Knowing it was not his preferred scotch and that h asked for a moderately priced scotch initially, we all felt that the bartender should have alerted him to the cost of the Blue variety, and provided an option more inline with his preference. $50 for a glass of scotch seems abusive

It was wonderful. The restaurant was beautiful, the ambiance was wonderful, the service was excellent and the food was simply outstanding!! My husband who is a tough critic loved BKB. I was in town making our annual trek up to NYC with my group of girlfriends. A former colleague of mine recommended BKB and I'm oh so glad he did! The manager and staff made an extra effort that made our night unforgettable. Highlights included the extensive cocktail program they have goin' on and the desserts!! The salmon special with risotto was one of our favorite dishes as well. Highly recommend, just wish they had a BKB back in Miami!

Although the food, service & ambiance was terrific, THE BAR TAB WAS NOT. The menu states that a top shelf Martini is $12. Our bill reflected $17 each & when I questioned as to why, our waitress responded--- " that we asked for it to be "straight up". Therefore they add an extra ounce & that's the price". She then added "all the better restaurants are doing it" Well, that's just not so! I've been to much better restaurants with much higher Martini prices such as the Mark Restaurant on 77th St. at $23. That's the price on the menu know matter how you order it. No scamming. It's not the money, it's the principal. Pay attention to your bar bill.
