Lovely classic French cuisine and the decor was reminiscent of the 30s or 40s. The service was wonderful!
fun atmosphere (especially when music is playing). quality service by an enthusiastic waiter. noise level- before the music- made conversation a challenge. my disappointment was with a menu that lacked creativity, and food that was good but not up to Bix' usual standard.
Food was entirely mediocre - not one thing stood out - and service was poor (unhelpful, unfriendly, snarky). Overpriced for what it was, and huge disappointment for a special occasion. Older crowd - definitely not hip or trendy.
Consistently great service. It's like 1930 when you walk in the door. The appetizers are great- General Tsao's chicken, potato pillows...amazing.
Love Bix. Always a great experience.
Try not to eat too many apps. It can be a challenge.
Great old world ambiance. Fabulous music and we ate very well, albeit not the most modern food. Will return.
Always a treat @Bix; the ambiance is classy, the food delicious, and attenitive staff does not dissapoint.
We love the ambiance of this San Francisco classic, from the huge mural above the bar area to the live piano music that accompanied our meal. Offerings for dinner are somewhat limited but the two dishes we had were delicious ( lobster spaghetti & fresh swordfish )!
Lovely evening for a birthday celebration!
I loved the ambience of BIX and have enjoyed dining here for over 20 years. I was so disappointed to see all 5 of our entrees came out luke warm!!! Is this a different management team then the one from previous years?!! Please get it right!!!
Love bix, always a classic
Great menu and service. Old favorite dishes are still amazing. Enjoyed live background music. Friendly and efficient service.
Bix came as a recommendation from a friend. It is a fun scene, and a cool place for us since we are from out-of-town.
If I return, I will ask for an upstairs table. We were downstairs far from the bar and my friend had to look at the wall all night.
The food was okay. It may have been an off-night, or maybe we ordered badly. Her sole was a bit rubbery, and my pork chop was slightly overdone and dry.
Hope this helps!
Bix never disappoints and I try to visit every time I visit San Francisco
Limited wine menu
Wonderful! Everyone loved their dishes, and their drinks!
Will not return
This restaurant is very popular. The service is great. I ordered wine, tasted the first one and did not like it. They made sure I had the right wine which I really liked. My only complaint is that the noise level was high. It's a place with jazz performance so I would like it to be a bit quieter for us to enjoy the music. People talk really loudly to a point where I felt bad for the musicians.
Excellent food and service!!! Jorge was an excellent server and did not rush us in any way.
If you want to carry on a conversation, reserve prior to the star of the live music.
The live music was excellent jazz, best I have heard in a long time.
Excellent bar and host service ....
Definite return restaurant for us and highly recommend...
Went for a birthday. Service was a bit slow, forgot an order we put in. Had to keep asking for water throughout the night. Not the biggest deals but for the price you’d expect better service. Food was very very good and the restaurant had great decor. Would maybe try it again down the road.
From the martinis to the food to the live music (perfect volume, not too loud), AWESOME. Pork chop was delish!
From the reviews we went expecting an excellent experience with a nice and romantic ambiance. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant lives up to expectations. We were downstairs but I think upstairs is probably nicer for a date night.
Food menu is quite limited. It is reasonably priced for high end dining in SF. We started with a shared ceviche dish which was excellent. My wife ordered a lobster pasta dish which was so salted that she ate less than half of it. I ordered their burger, which was highly recommended and it was OK, but for a $30 burger it needs to be a wow! We tried a taster of two house wines, a Zin and a Cab planning to order a bottle of one of them. Both priced around $80 per bottle. We didn't order either of them because I buy better wine for less than $10. It is ridiculous when you can't get a good bottle of wine for a price like that. We had a glass of each for $20 a glass and felt ripped-off!
Overall I am sad that I cannot recommend Bix and I will not go back.
Wonderful- 67th birthday celebration- felt so appreciated!
Bix is good for a quick bite pre/post a show or night out.
Appetizers are good, tasty. We got 4 diff appetizers.
Dessert is tasty but average.
The ambience is great. Moderately loud, and good live music.
Entrees/ Main Dish is a NO.
Food is disgusting. Bland. No taste whatsoever.
My boyfriend and I like to eat well, share plates.
We ordered 3 entrees all 3 were disgusting. We picked at them and left the plates full.
DONT recommned for any else than quick bite.
Great ambiance, excellent service and great food!! Add perfect cocktails and smooth music, it was another Bix perfect evening.
While the music was amazing, we were seated by a very drunk man who was fighting with the wait staff for more booze which thankfully they didn’t give him. Knowing I brought my daughter here for her 34th BD after an evening at the ballet, I was very disappointed that they didn’t seat us somewhere else knowing how drunk this man was. There were other tables available at 10:30. Also the hostess was not welcoming at all. In fact she was borderline rude. Very disappointed.
The food- outstanding. The service- impeccable. Excellent whisky list and the GM Will very knowledgeable as well. Fantastic live music as well. Really wonderful all around!
Sea bass was AMAZING!! Restaurant ambiance great, excellent service!
My server was great, I wish she made herself available when I tried to give her a cash tip. The tip was easily 35% of the bill. I wanted to thank her and she made our night great. The food was very good and the prices were fair, the piano music was great and helped reduce the annoying roar of conversations that can be distracting on a date night.
A disappointing evening overall. The only high point was that the manager himself took the time to explain why the sound level of the music (live music - jazzy) could not be adjusted. He also offered to move us to a table on the mezzanine level where the music would not be so intrusive. Food was also disappointing - lack of seasoning on everything I ordered. The amorosa potatoes looked and tasted like they had been cooked the day before. Scratching Bix off my list of "Go To " restaurants in the neighborhood.
This was my second time at BIX.
The first was a mid-week business dinner and I loved it!
So decided to bring my better half for a date on Sunday night - and what a disappointment... I asked for a medium steak and got a very over cooked and tough piece, fries were extremely dry and barely warm. My date’s sole was completely tasteless.
The dessert was very good though, hence two stars.
Service was attentive and nice and we liked the atmosphere.
However, all in all , For $150 per person this was a poor value.
Really memorable. Loved the feel. Service was top notch. It was rainy and blustery out so felt a little chilly inside the restaurant.
the live piano music makes this feel like a lively, old school fine dining experience. Sit upstairs if you can for less noise. The food is amazing!
Loved the music, food, ambience and excellent hostess. Great service, a really memorable dinner on our first time in San Francisco. Highly recommended!
We were in town from Atlanta and looking online for super clubs. This looked and sounded amazing... and it was! The food, atmosphere, music and service were all great. It’s a former historic speak easy down an ally. You can just imagine all the people of that era being there. So much fun. We will be back next time we’re in San Francisco.
Bix has never disappointed us. All four of us had a great evening and good food. The service was excellent with one caveat. The bus persons who cleared the plates need better training especially about removing plates when one is not finished. We love the fact that there is a real cross section of ages, types, and manner of dress. This is a really special place.
Always fantastic food, both the longtime classics and some innovative choices. Great piano bar and the maitre'd, Will( we also miss Blake), always the best in SF. Why we've been frequent diners here for over a decade.
We absolutely loved the bar, the music, the amazing service and the dessert. The appetizers and fish were just average.
Wonderful experience for the whole group.
