Really memorable. Loved the feel. Service was top notch. It was rainy and blustery out so felt a little chilly inside the restaurant.
the live piano music makes this feel like a lively, old school fine dining experience. Sit upstairs if you can for less noise. The food is amazing!
Loved the music, food, ambience and excellent hostess. Great service, a really memorable dinner on our first time in San Francisco. Highly recommended!
We were in town from Atlanta and looking online for super clubs. This looked and sounded amazing... and it was! The food, atmosphere, music and service were all great. It’s a former historic speak easy down an ally. You can just imagine all the people of that era being there. So much fun. We will be back next time we’re in San Francisco.
Bix has never disappointed us. All four of us had a great evening and good food. The service was excellent with one caveat. The bus persons who cleared the plates need better training especially about removing plates when one is not finished. We love the fact that there is a real cross section of ages, types, and manner of dress. This is a really special place.
Always fantastic food, both the longtime classics and some innovative choices. Great piano bar and the maitre'd, Will( we also miss Blake), always the best in SF. Why we've been frequent diners here for over a decade.
We absolutely loved the bar, the music, the amazing service and the dessert. The appetizers and fish were just average.
Wonderful experience for the whole group.
It was perfect and at lunch (Fridays only) quiet enough to talk
Great food great energy and throwback jazz bar scene. It is class joint!!!
My husband and I went to Bix for our anniversary. The restaurant has great ambiance, and a romantic vibe. We really enjoyed the live music and drinks! The food however, wasn’t as good. Each course was a bit ‘meh’ for the prices, we expected something a little more special. I ordered steak medium rare, and sent it back as it was well done (reaaally well-done). Second one came back right, but the rest of our food was cold by then so a bit of a downer.
As a bar, I’d give Bix too marks, but we won’t go back based on the food.
We ordered bone marrow appetizer and it’s pretty good. Other appetizers look delicious too. However the entrees are disappointing and overpriced. The seabass has a sauce which is a mixture of lemon and mayor and fish was under seasoned. The lobster spaghetti was ok. What I really like is the Prusseco wine we had at the bar and the live Jazz music! The restaurent environment is really nice too.
We wanted our visiting friends to experience a unique dinner in SF.
Once again, an exceptional dining experience!
The friends I took this time were equally impressed.
Very personal service from the Duty Manager, Barman and Server - they make each guest feel valued.
The cuisine was outstanding in its creativity, innovation, flavours and presentation.
A place not to be missed in San Francisco.
Bix is ALWAYS 5-Stars across the board in all categories.
Since their cocktails are supposed to be their strong suit, I was shocked when the bartender seemed clueless. I looked at their specialty cocktail menu and everything was sweet. I asked the bartender what I could have that was not sweet and described what I wanted and he just kept suggesting things on their specialty cocktail menu. He didn't seem like a real bartender at all. I would never go back for cocktails.
The food was OK. I ordered fish and it was predictably bland. I am not sure what can be done to fish to make it interesting so maybe it was my fault for ordering that. I heard the pork chop was good, though.
I go for atmosphere and that was certainly wonderful. We could actually talk to our friends without involving the table two inches from us. That was probably worth it.
Hi; overall it was nice. good to hear live jazz while eating. our reservation was at 9Pm but when we arrived we didn't get seated until 9:38. But that's ok, listening to the music made up for it.
food was delicious and the drinks!!
Loved! The service was better then the chicken. I would recommend to anyone, as long as they have a little cash.
As we were ordering a new round of drinks and a plate of cheese a very rude manager told us that they would not accommodate us and told us we had to leave to give room to other customers.
They should clarify when jazz sessions start - 8:30pm - and how long you can be seats. We were seated at 6:30pm so by the time music started, the reason why we chose the restaurant in the first place, we were told to leave. Food is ok, music is good but place way too noisy to actually enjoy it. Rude manager. We won’t be back.
Upon our arrival after it taking us 90 minutes to travel 12 miles from the East Bay I was a wreck and found the maitre d to be outstanding! I had called about our difficult trip and was told our reservation was only going to be held for 15 minutes so assumed we were out of luck. He took care of us and checked on us later at our table where we were enjoying our wonderful duck dinners. Our server was also very good. Thanks.
We thought the drinks, the appetizers (potato pillows and sweetbread), the cauliflower soup, the salad one of us ordered (can't think of it at the moment) were all very good to excellent, but we were all underwhelmed by our entrees. We split a lobster spaghetti, and had the lamb tenderloin (much smaller than the usual tenderloin steak size, and the pork chop.
The ambiance is great! Live pianist and vocal soloist made for a lovely evening!
Great atmosphere. Great service. Food is terrible!! When a high end restaurant cannot execute well on a simple strip steak.....disastrous!! Almost like homogenized meat, either instantly defrosted in a microwave or even worse, boiled before being grilles. Bread pudding was a microwaved brownie mess. Shame. Great potential. Terrible execution.
I had high expectations as I've heard great things about Bix. However, my dish was very disappointing. I ordered the lobster spaghetti only to find 3 small pieces of lobster and tons of tomatoes that looked like lobster as the lighting was tricky to see that it wasn't. The server said it is always measured at 2 ozs of lobster meat which is not even a serving of 4ozs for a descent protein serving. It was very pricey at $38. It was very tasty and covered with tomatoes and a small serving of pasta but is not worth $38... Maybe at most I would pay $24 for that portion. It didn't come with anything else. My husband's burger was descent but then again it was also $38 and over priced.
Best place in San Francisco.
I had my tab transferred to my bill and halfway through the meal, the manager brought me my card. When it was time to py the bill, I was confused if I had to give my card back or it had automatically been charged to my card, so I went to the host with my reciept to ask if it had been paid for and he had said we are all set and good to go. After leaving, I received a call from the host and manager with then yelling at me on the phone saying I need to turn around to pay the bill despite checking with the host beforehand to make sure the bill was settled. The manager was extremely rude and I was left so upset because he made it seem as if I was in the wrong. I highly do not recommend this place due to its poor leadership and terrible service.
Enjoyed a classic meal - outstanding sole dish & my friend had an excellent lamb "Porterhouse" cut. Service was top-notch as always. All this plus a great martini! :-)
One of our favorite places to go in San Francisco.......it never disappoints! If you are looking for modern, hip, nouvelle, avant guard, eclectic then forget Bix.......it is something altogether different from those descriptions. I would call it “classic Bogart”. If you don’t have a feeling for what that means, you are probably too young to appreciate Bix. Piano to set a mood yet not so loud that you can’t carry on a conversation, great martinis, good food, and an atmosphere to remember......that is Bix.
Absolute perfection in every way: the cocktail, the food, the presentation, the staff's attentiveness. It was a wonderful and very special evening.
This restaurant is consistently great! Would highly recommend...
We had such a great experience yesterday. We were seated pretty fast. The hostess and all of the servers were wonderful. We ordered 2 appetizers-potatoes pillows with caviar and devil eggs-were delicious. For entrees we ordered a steak and a lobster spaghetti. The steak was amazing, very tender, and a superb flavor. The lobster pasta was OK. I wish it had more lobster. The desert dishes were yummy! We had a banana foster and some unique cheesecake with buckwheat honey ice cream. All of the drinks were awesome! The decor was gorgeous. The pianist was incredible. We stayed long enough to listen to the jazz band and they were really good. We can't wait to come back next time...
I won't forget this year's birthday! Bix was perfect in every way....delicious food, tasty drinks (we enjoyed after dinner cocktails at the bar), attentive servers and live jazz music. I love the cozy, classy atmosphere of Bix and would like to return with friends.
Great intimate dining with excellent service! Good place to celebrate our 13th anniversary.
Always a pleasure to return to Bix. The food is excellent and the service top notch.
Wonderful environment, waiters and food. Nice , Romantic lighting!
Went here for a law school reunion dinner. We had a reservation for 8:30 and didn't get seated until about 9 pm. Our server was great, especially for having to deal with so many lawyers. We were worried the jazz music would be too loud, but it ended up being a nice touch. The food was good, but not everything was amazing. I got the burger, not realizing it's an open face burger. I only ate about half of it. Overall, the experience was a good one and I would go back, but it's not of the best restaurants I have been to in SF and it's fairly expensive.
The food was expensive and mediocre. Service, cocktails and environment were on point.
Food was very good, drinks were good, but had to be the smallest martinis I have ever seen. Service was borderline terrible as it took 45 minutes in between the appetizers and the main course. Our server was taking care of too many tables and could have used some help. I still liked the experience, the atmosphere, live music and the food is very good.
Didn't care for the lamb. Music was good. Keith
