BIX never disappoints, and I always have a fantastic experience here!' My date and I arrived early to enjoy a classic cocktail 🍸 at the elegant bar, served by a white-jacketed bartender. We had requested a table in the upper mezzanine level where we could sit side-by-side, and the wonderful hostess (Tati) pleasantly surprised us by seating us at the “primo” center table upstairs which faced out onto the first floor and bar. It was cozy and romantic! And the food was delicious and creative as always, served quietly and surreptitiously by our fine waiter (Alonzo) and other service staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will gladly go back again soon!
Bix has done a remarkable job of remaining an excellent restaurant over many, many years. The menu remains just right; with longtime favorites that are well executed. More classic, and classy than so many other newer restaurants. Service is quite good, and ambiance is as good as ever. My only complaint is the noise level; really loud.
So disappointed in the duck dish! It was a gorgeous, tasty piece of meat. But the skin was barely browned. It was inedibly rubbery and difficult to separate from the meat. And since the rest of the dish consists of an ounce of mushrooms and two terribly bitter pieces of radicchio, the failure to prepare the duck properly was unforgivable.
One of the best restaurant experiences in town. Their booths are more comfortable than my sofa at home! live piano, delicious food and cocktails, fancy decor: what's not to love?
I do wish they enforced their dress code, but I suppose that is impossible in the way-too-casual SF.
Beautiful ambiance. Great looking place. Excellent service.
My entree Lobster Spaghetti was lacking in lobster. It was very good but I had to search for the lobster.
However, I would still go back. And back. And back.
Dinner at Bix is always a pleasure. The service is crisp without being over the top. Food is divine. It’s a tradition that never disappoints.
One of my top 10 favorite restaurants in SF of all time. You are greeted from the moment you arrive and feel like you are a regular. The Maitre' D is fabulous and so is the rest of the staff. The food, the entertainment, the bar is fantastic; it's a total package. Go for the food and stay for ambiance.
The overall look of the restaurant is cool. The food and service was okay. It’s just expensive and small portions. Nothing special.
When we arrived, slightly late but within the window before cancelling, before even a hello, we were told we'd have to leave at 7:45pm (we had a 6pm res). It was so rude and jarring, that it kind of took us aback but we went with it as we were hungry. As we proceeded to get to the table and sit, and set our things down/look at the menu, we were told two more times by the same person and some sort of other staff member about our dinner time cut off. The waitress we had (Leigh or something) was fantastic and bubbly and even told us she didn't think it was enough time, but she was obviously not the boss. So instead of enjoying our apps and wine, we were asked about one bite in if we planned to order dinner, as we needed to be out by 7:45. Fourth time now it's been told to us! Incredibly rude. So instead of ordering dinner, as we planned to, and perhaps would have even ordered MUCH more wine, we left it at that. As we were finishing our second glass of wine (we had already eaten and paid, but apparently we had until 7:45pm, so we planned to use those minutes!), and at the strike of 7:45pm, the same bratty, rude host came up to us and I kid you not said, "Ok it's 7:45." I've never in my life met such rude staff at a restaurant.. they are expensive and their food isn't anything special/unique (or even that amazing). They even put red wine in small glass, so you couldn't even smell the wine! Ugh. What an awful experience, I would NEVER go back.
Food selections were exquisite. We had multiple orders of duck breast and halibut and everything was mouth-watering. Attentive but not obtrusive service. We'll be back to sample more of the amazing menu!
Bix is a great place. Live entertainment, nice wine list, great food, and excellent service. Love the small alley entrance - quaint and super cool. This is a must visit for us when we visit the city.
I was celebrating a milestone birthday and the restaurant made it special beginning with a birthday greeting (card) and a candle in the dessert we ordered. The food was delicious from the deviled eggs to the halibut, the pork chop and the lamb. This continues to be one of my favorite places to celebrate special occasions.
Go for cocktails at the bar. Excellent . Live piano.
Service : Excellent.
Those were the high points.
Food and wine by glass mediocre at best. I have too many great choices in the city by the bay to return here.
No redo .
For us, this is a lot of money, but my girl friend's birthday is right up there with with anything , and it was totally worth the bucks across the board. Go! You won''t regret it.
The coolest restaurant in the world. This place exudes coolness. I’ve been coming here for 30+ years. While i show road wear, Bix remains a hip 20-something. It could be from any decade of the 20th century. Try the tar tar or the martini special. I always love the Chicken Hash ala Bix. Even if the food were not great ((which it is), it would still be worth o special trip!
Fabulous food, service & ambiance
Can’t wait to return
Manager was very rude, sent over waitress 3 times to put pressure on us to leave after our meal, then he got frustrated and came over and asked us to leave! Very Rude, obnoxious! I have been going to BIX for years, but how were treated is just wrong.
Such a gem. Can't wait to try it on an evening when the jazz is playing. it was the perfect ending to a perfect trip. C.
Love it I’ll go there again !!!
Excellent service from arrival to departure. Food was amazing with great flavors and options that were very pleasing to us. They were great with acknowledging allergies and making food custom to fit our needs. This place was great and we feel the service was superb. Would definitely go here again and highly recommend.
The whole experience was great: ambient, service, music (jazz trio)! But, I ordered a lobster spaghetti that I barely found little pieces of lobster
Lovely, old fashioned style restaurant. We sat in balcony booth. Very comfortable. Great ambience. Liked the lamb, steak; black cod was disappointing.
Very loud. Difficult to have conversation. Music was great
Was a nice experience with piano and cello playing. Very dark inside (waiters/waitresses carried flashlights to see menu). Wait staff were very friendly and prompt. Food was over priced for what was served. It was ok, but not worth some of prices they were charging. Probably won’t be going back any time soon.
Was not the same experience as 15 years ago (regarding the food).
Very cool location. Once inside, great set up, lighting and staff.
Everything was just perfect: music, service, food. Definitely will recommend it to my friends.
I ate at BIX not long after it opened some 20 years ago and on returning recently was very pleasantly surprised at how well the Restaraunt had aged. Had a short wait for the table but the restaurant was at full capacity.
The food was excellent! The Hors D’oevres sampler was perfect. The oysters Rockefeller was delicious. The lobster spaghetti was excellent and available as gluten free! The sole was perfectly cooked and the desserts were MMMmmmm; Warm Chocolate Brioche Bread Pudding and Banana Foster.
The music was lively and created a comfortable ambiance. All in all it was a memorable evening. I look forward to returning. Good value for $$. Great service and delicious food. Hard to beat!
Perfect all around
I think Bix is good if you’re looking for an old-fashioned, romantic experience. We were looking for romantic, but also healthy food options and a wider variety of cocktails. Bix is fabulously old school and catering to an older crowd, both with the food options and the cocktail menu.
Not even San Francisco traffic could deter our much anticipated night @ the Bix!
Food, mood and dude (waiter) nailed it.
Thank you Bux
It was a perfect venue for an elegant, yet casual holiday lunch. The staff was attentive, the food and drink outstanding, and the ambiance sparkled. We were amazed at how 4 hours just flew by! You can't go wrong when dining here.
Great service, fun atmosphere
Bix is a SF eatery institution. Great bar, great setting, great food, great staff. One classy bar/dinner joint. The best steak tartare in the world. Live jazz ensemble late night weekends. One of my top go-to dinner experiences for SF newbies or out of town guests as always impressive and fun.
I used to love Bix. However, this visit was just not good. I made reservations and they placed us at the worst possible table next to the kitchen door in spite the fact there many open booths that never got filled during the entire time we were there. Upstairs seating area was pretty much empty. What gives? The wait staff seem less attentive to us in comparison to previous visits. The waitress could use a breath mint. The sole came to the table and it was odorous in a bad old fish way. The bread pudding was drenched in chocolate sauce... not good.
Needless to say, I was very disappointed and probably won't be back.
We felt a bit rushed theohhh
I would drink here but probably never order food again. A $48 New York steak should not be full of fat and grizzle.
Ambiance is fantastic! We had the best seats. Service was great. The entrée portion was on the small side so you need to order a couple of starters if you are coming in hungry.
We were really looking forward to holding our team holiday dinner at Bix, but had a really disappointing evening. When we arrived 30 min ahead of our reservation and let the host know that one of our team members was caught in terrible traffic they were EXTREMELY rude to us. The host informed me that we would not be seated at all until all members of our party arrived. Realizing that it could be a long time before my colleague could arrive, I asked if they could downsize our party and seat us and they told us NO. I was then reprimanded for not knowing the "house rules" (even though no one ever mentioned this to us), and was condescendingly asked if I "UNDERSTOOD" what he was saying. When we were taken to our table (at the time of our reservation) we were told that they wanted the table back by 8:30 (2.5 hours from when we were being seated) and again asked us if we "UNDERSTOOD". They spoke to us like children. Our service was nice, but the service was terribly slow and a few of the staff were again quite condescending when we would ask questions. It's been a long time since I've been to a place with such rude staff, and none of us left feeling good about the interactions we had that night. We will not be going back - and will warn others about the less than charming host.
Food was mediocre and our server was super nice until she decided she wanted us to go so she could get another turn - so obvious it made us very uncomfortable
It was spectacular and we loved it! Would want to go again! A great place for a Celebration
Everything was outstanding!
