Just a gorgeous experience. The ambience and atmosphere is exquisite. You get a sense of San Francisco history when you’re there. The service was near impeccable and the food divine. When a gentleman began playing the piano it was the perfect topper to a beautiful experience. Can’t wait to go again. Sheer elegance. We even got a perfect wine recommendation from our waitress.
Fun atmosphere and good food - not outstanding for the price point, but very good.
Bix has really stood the test of time. Beautiful restaurant, amazing food and great service
Bix is a fabulous date night venue or for a group of no more than 10. We sat by the piano and acoustic bass player and so enjoyed it. Many of us had the lobster spaghetti (and they raved about it) and some of us had the black cod... SOoooo GOOD!
Wine list is very good and not too extensive where you would get lost in it. Noise level is high.
As an old dinner club venue, the upstairs could be cosy for a date night, but there were many table on the main level having their intimate dinner together.
Mediocre food. Excellent decor. Pro service. Hope they can dial in the menu and execution.
Great atmosphere. Our server was excellent. Food is expensive, but not really excellent for the prices being charged. Bartender was grouchy and on the edge of being rude.
Meal was super average. My lamb was dry...very dry. But the service was something to note. Honest feedback. We did arrive late, And we had to wait an extra 5 minutes for just one person. We did not get seated and the venue was not at capacity. Regardless, the manager came to us at the end of the meal and basically proposes that we leave the venue ASAP and we are holding up the tables. We just finished our deserts and still had drinks at the table. We were shocked at his attitude reminding us that we were lucky that our reservations were not cancelled and the thank our lucky stars. I kid you not. Our meal was 450 bucks and we felt like CRAP and his treatment. I’ve dined at world class venues and have never been treated like this...and 10% of the time we have arrived late and have apologized for the lateness, but never been shamed by the maitre d and berated like children before.
Will not be recommending this venue and will be talking about our experience to anyone who will listen.
First course too salty. Main course not hot and not much food either. Was black cod dish. Server was perfunctory. Room darker than usual. Have been to this restaurant many times, but don’t plan to return any time soon.
Celebrated a birthday and had a great time. Food was wonderful—pork chop extraordinary. Live music and great lighting make the experience special every time.
Bix never disappoints. Exceptional cocktails, food and service. A SF institution We had another great experience.
Lobster spaghetti was more like tomato spaghetti, when I sent it back because it was so poorly made. I was told that it was a 2oz lobster spaghetti. I found that interesting because it sounded like an excuse for why it wasn't good. Also made me wonder how many others complain about the dish as they seemed overly prepared with their 2oz lobster response.
Had a reservation at 9 to see the jazz. Couldnt seat us until after 9:30...
Food was really good. Would recommend the lobster spaghetti and banana fosters
We were greeted immediately and had just ordered drinks when our table was ready. The waiter gave my wife a birthday greeting and made her feel special.
Amazing place - 14 years later was just as good as first time. Atmosphere amazing although noise level high - food was really good
Great dining experience. This place feels like a special dinner without any hint of condescension. Delicious food and actually good wines by the glass (or bottle!). Great cocktails. Loved the live jazz. We will mark this as one of our favorite places!
I have been to Bix over a number of years and will always come back. The ambiance is what brings me back. Dark, sophisticated, clubby, quiet music. So maybe more for date nights, special occasions. The food, however, is just ok. I used to come for the lobster spaghetti but the quality has gone downhill. Currently, the dish is soupy, lacking in pasta and lobster, and an over abundance of halved cherry tomatoes which makes the sauce acidic. We also had the “fried chicken general tso” appetizer. Described by waiter as chunks of chicken thigh breaded tempura style. Nope. Breading was more like fish and chips. However, the chicken had been soy marinated so salty and delicious after I took off the thick breading. If you need low sodium, do not get this. I enjoyed it. I ordered the pork chop because so many Yelp reviewers raved about. It was ok. Thick chop with bone, Swiss chard, and a clump of something that I wasn’t sure what it was. The chop was well cooked but it still wasn’t as good as a Boulevard pork chop. I think, though, that most people would say it was good. I had the duck on a previous visit and it was chewy. So I asked them to cook it a bit longer and it was much better. Not wanting to send food back, I have since not ordered anymore duck. Dessert was “bananas foster.” Warm bananas, rum, vanilla ice cream. Without any hint of rum, it just tasted like warm bananas and ice cream with a watery caramel sauce. Not so good. So I will come back again, but honestly, I’m running out of food to try. I’m hoping that someone will get that lobster spaghetti back on track
Hand Crafted cocktails.. amazing food.. service spot on.. light piano in the background... GO!!! Don’t second guess yourself ... GO!
The service was impeccable, from our greeting to walking out the door. There were some misses with the food which surprised me, the beef tartare was bland, the brocollini lacked flavor. I would stick to the entrees, and the cocktail list was creative and shaken and stirred table side. The ambiance never fails to impress. Thanks for a wonderful evening!
Great service! I took my wife there for her 30th bday, the service, music, food and ambiance was first class. Very reasonable price for great SF hidden gem!
Visiting San Francisco and wanted to listen to some jazz
A couple of dishes fell short, especially the new chicken hash. The waitress was nice enough to removed it from the bill. Service was excellent!
We had a terrific time and excellent server Jennifer on the second level. She was very attentive and served the most delicious food as was the
We started with the deviled eggs and crab rolls, a hit by all. And the seafood entrees of Cod, Halibut accompanied by sides were absolutely spot on!
BIX never disappoints, and I always have a fantastic experience here!' My date and I arrived early to enjoy a classic cocktail 🍸 at the elegant bar, served by a white-jacketed bartender. We had requested a table in the upper mezzanine level where we could sit side-by-side, and the wonderful hostess (Tati) pleasantly surprised us by seating us at the “primo” center table upstairs which faced out onto the first floor and bar. It was cozy and romantic! And the food was delicious and creative as always, served quietly and surreptitiously by our fine waiter (Alonzo) and other service staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will gladly go back again soon!
Bix has done a remarkable job of remaining an excellent restaurant over many, many years. The menu remains just right; with longtime favorites that are well executed. More classic, and classy than so many other newer restaurants. Service is quite good, and ambiance is as good as ever. My only complaint is the noise level; really loud.
So disappointed in the duck dish! It was a gorgeous, tasty piece of meat. But the skin was barely browned. It was inedibly rubbery and difficult to separate from the meat. And since the rest of the dish consists of an ounce of mushrooms and two terribly bitter pieces of radicchio, the failure to prepare the duck properly was unforgivable.
One of the best restaurant experiences in town. Their booths are more comfortable than my sofa at home! live piano, delicious food and cocktails, fancy decor: what's not to love?
I do wish they enforced their dress code, but I suppose that is impossible in the way-too-casual SF.
Beautiful ambiance. Great looking place. Excellent service.
My entree Lobster Spaghetti was lacking in lobster. It was very good but I had to search for the lobster.
However, I would still go back. And back. And back.
Dinner at Bix is always a pleasure. The service is crisp without being over the top. Food is divine. It’s a tradition that never disappoints.
One of my top 10 favorite restaurants in SF of all time. You are greeted from the moment you arrive and feel like you are a regular. The Maitre' D is fabulous and so is the rest of the staff. The food, the entertainment, the bar is fantastic; it's a total package. Go for the food and stay for ambiance.
The overall look of the restaurant is cool. The food and service was okay. It’s just expensive and small portions. Nothing special.
When we arrived, slightly late but within the window before cancelling, before even a hello, we were told we'd have to leave at 7:45pm (we had a 6pm res). It was so rude and jarring, that it kind of took us aback but we went with it as we were hungry. As we proceeded to get to the table and sit, and set our things down/look at the menu, we were told two more times by the same person and some sort of other staff member about our dinner time cut off. The waitress we had (Leigh or something) was fantastic and bubbly and even told us she didn't think it was enough time, but she was obviously not the boss. So instead of enjoying our apps and wine, we were asked about one bite in if we planned to order dinner, as we needed to be out by 7:45. Fourth time now it's been told to us! Incredibly rude. So instead of ordering dinner, as we planned to, and perhaps would have even ordered MUCH more wine, we left it at that. As we were finishing our second glass of wine (we had already eaten and paid, but apparently we had until 7:45pm, so we planned to use those minutes!), and at the strike of 7:45pm, the same bratty, rude host came up to us and I kid you not said, "Ok it's 7:45." I've never in my life met such rude staff at a restaurant.. they are expensive and their food isn't anything special/unique (or even that amazing). They even put red wine in small glass, so you couldn't even smell the wine! Ugh. What an awful experience, I would NEVER go back.
Food selections were exquisite. We had multiple orders of duck breast and halibut and everything was mouth-watering. Attentive but not obtrusive service. We'll be back to sample more of the amazing menu!
Bix is a great place. Live entertainment, nice wine list, great food, and excellent service. Love the small alley entrance - quaint and super cool. This is a must visit for us when we visit the city.
I was celebrating a milestone birthday and the restaurant made it special beginning with a birthday greeting (card) and a candle in the dessert we ordered. The food was delicious from the deviled eggs to the halibut, the pork chop and the lamb. This continues to be one of my favorite places to celebrate special occasions.
Go for cocktails at the bar. Excellent . Live piano.
Service : Excellent.
Those were the high points.
Food and wine by glass mediocre at best. I have too many great choices in the city by the bay to return here.
No redo .
For us, this is a lot of money, but my girl friend's birthday is right up there with with anything , and it was totally worth the bucks across the board. Go! You won''t regret it.
The coolest restaurant in the world. This place exudes coolness. I’ve been coming here for 30+ years. While i show road wear, Bix remains a hip 20-something. It could be from any decade of the 20th century. Try the tar tar or the martini special. I always love the Chicken Hash ala Bix. Even if the food were not great ((which it is), it would still be worth o special trip!
Fabulous food, service & ambiance
Can’t wait to return
Manager was very rude, sent over waitress 3 times to put pressure on us to leave after our meal, then he got frustrated and came over and asked us to leave! Very Rude, obnoxious! I have been going to BIX for years, but how were treated is just wrong.
