Since founding in 1992, Bittersweet Pastry Shop & Café has become a destination for French pastries, specialty desserts and custom cakes. A true European-style bakery nestled in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, Bittersweet prepares its breads, breakfast pastries, pies, tarts, brownies, French macarons, cakes, hand-decorated cookies and other treats from scratch and with all-natural ingredients. The shop’s bright, lively café is open for breakfast and lunch and features house-made quiche, soups, salads and sandwiches. Bittersweet is known for its inventive wedding and celebration cakes, having created custom cakes for individuals like Eddie Vedder, Oprah and Michael Jordon as well as for organizations like the Chicago Cubs, 7/11 and Dylan’s Candy Bar. Bittersweet also provides wholesale desserts to an exclusive list of restaurants and offers catering delivery service throughout the Chicago area.

We love Bittersweet! Their food is great and their bakery items are the best. They had a wonderful chilled Zucchini soup which was really good when we visited. We also had the daily sandwiches and I had a slice of the cake of the month which was Key Lime. It was delicious and not tart at all and my husband had the individual Peanut Butter tart; it was delicious also. Brandon was our server and he is always very nice. Everyone who works there is very friendly. Since the Covid-19, they can only have a few tables, but you can make a reservation. Cannot wait until they can open at 100%.

Bittersweet has always had high standards and their food is always incredibly fresh and amazing! They have rearranged their seating and premises to current standards and I couldn’t be more impressed! Excellent!!
