Bistrot Lepic & Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
I'd called the restaurant from the car and warned them that we were short on time for dinner, so they were ready for us--advised me that downstairs might be quicker (there was a jazz ensemble upstairs), had my table ready immediately, and steered us toward the dishes with less prep time. Still managed to be quite charming, delicious, and authentically French!
This restaurant is always a hit when we bring friends who are first timers. The chef never disappoints us as his diners . From the charming decor , good wines, attentive wait staff and most importantly their wonderful menu choices , we have yet to be disappointed for a delicious meal.
Lepic needs to get some fresh management and also renew the menu. It is too much boring "old style" French cuisine - no real special food. Only "being French" is not enough. Last time we had reserved a table for 5 at 8pm at did not get our table until 8:45pm because "the party before us was late arriving". Not the way to run a restaurant. Au revoir Lepic.
Classic French cuisine, impeccably prepared and served with great warmth. The restaurant is small enough that, even when busy, conversation is easy. Not oppressively formal, although the menu has such classics as veal cheeks. The wine carte is well selected. Upstairs is a warm, cozy bar with comfortable seating and artful decor.
This was a great find in Georgetown. We had a wonderful table in the wine bar upstairs. The waiter Martin was very attention and helpful, but not overbearing, he had a wonderful disposition. Highly recommend the happy hour, we started our dinner early before seven, and were able to try a number of different wines by the glass due to happy hour price. Food was very good. Very enjoyable.
The food, service, and ambiance were great! Ordered the terrine to start and the flavor and preparation was out of this world. They have some oldies but goldies on the menu but I recommend trying some of their specialities. The kidneys were extremely flavorful and tender. The server was attentive and the owner stopped by the table to check on the food. Will definitely come back!
A quiet location located outside the hubbub of Georgetown that met my desire for not being noisy (business discussion). But I'd have to say the food was at best 'ok' and when the bill came (with one glass of wine) I was shocked at the price. Not one I'd recommend or try again. But maybe we tried the wrong things. I had the fish special and associate had the duck confit. I don't think either of us were impressed.
We had a wonderful dinner with an excellent bottle of wine for my birthday. I have wanting to visit this restaurant for awhile now and DC Restaurant Week was the perfect occasion. My wife enjoyed the Beef Medallion and I had the Kidney dish (Rognons de veau). Both were very filling and were on the Restaurant Week menu. Oh yea, the wine - we enjoyed a bottle of red Cahors from the south of France - delicious, melt in your mouth flavor.
As if anticipating the excellent food were not enough, the very friendly and caring service is beyond what is expected or received in most restaurants.
My husband and I always leave the bistro anticipating our next return.
I introduced a few friends to Le Pepic after a concert recently and they are now ardent followers also.
The appetizers are so good, particularly the onion tart. I most often order fish, and every time it is perfectly cooked.
Also a hit with everyone, is the free parking directly across from the restaurant.
Wonderful restaurant! Menu includes dishes you won't find everywhere (e.g., veal kidneys my husband thought were out of this world). There's a reasonably priced, well thought out wine list. All the food was excellent, from appetizer and bread through dessert. Service was appropriately attentive and friendly. We were visiting from out of town; if we lived in Georgetown we'd be there every week.
This is one of the most reliable and most pleasant DC restaurants I know. It's an intimate place that's comfortable and unassuming with an wonderful French menu. The staff is about as professional as it gets and helps to make it a very satisfying place to eat. You know they are going to be respectful, but engaging, and that things will go smoothly with logistics almost unnoticed. The menu has a number of "standards" that I crave and sometimes struggle to choose among - the onion tart or their soups as starters, the salmon in potato crust, liver (if you gotta eat it, do it there) or any of the fish specials. The desserts are wonderful - yes, the floating island nearly DOES float. Parking is effortless on S Street. Dinner there always is something I look forward to.
Lovely and quiet, Bistrot Lepic is a nice reprieve from the Georgetown burger and bar scene. We enjoyed a civilized meal, well prepared with fresh ingredients. Surprisingly, our servers seemed indifferent to the great food they were serving...bored, almost. I don't know why. Bistrot Lepic was a nice oasis within strike of the bustling hubbub of Georgetown.
My family went to Bistrot Lepic for my birthday, and it was a great choice. The food was wonderful, the service was excellent, and they did something very sweet - my mother mentioned to the server that it was my birthday, and during the dessert course, though I didn't get a dessert, they brought out a complimentary glass of champagne with a birthday candle taped to it. Made my night :).
