As usual, the food (soft shell crab main course, gazpacho to start and 2 lovely desserts) was excellent, as was the service. The bistro s a neighborhood gem.
Salads, appetizers and entrees reflect attention to detail and traditional French dishes and preparation. Even an omelette is special, and the baguettes crusty outside and soft inside as they should be. Some desserts are terrific -- chocolate mousse! -- but a couple or merely "eh" (profiteroles, which could use thicker, darker chocolate sauce, better ice cream quality and a little less overbaking of the pastry). Overall, though, an unhurried, delicious and charming dining experience.
Have dined many times here and it's almost always a pleasure. It was quiet because it was early and not crowded, so keep your choice of time and season in mind. (Georgetown graduation would make it noisier.) This time the food was particularly good. Delicious zucchini blossoms stuffed with Provencal sweetbreads and lightly fried. The salads are always good and often are part of an entree. Wines are interesting and reasonably priced, including nice ones by the glass. Service is warm. I actually am hesitant to write this because I like it the way it is and don't want to see big crowds. It's tiny! And it is definitely not for a younger, hipster crowd, except maybe upstairs in the wine bar, where there is a Tuesday special. More a solid place for locals and neighbors.
We enjoyed a lovely seafood salad and dessert. The service was perfect.
Food was superb and they had an excellent wine selection. Arrived prior to our reservation and they accommodated us quickly and without issue. Downstairs and upstairs have two completely different atmospheres, which is great. Will definitely be going back!
So much to recommend, with only a few issues to share. The service and food were exceptional! There's a clear team effort here; one only lift up their head from their delicious meal and someone came dashing over. If we had an assigned staff member, I don't know who it would have been; everyone was taking care of us. The food was delicious--every last drop of it--and the kitchen was most accommodating to a gluten-free diner at our table. The proteins were complemented by wonderful sauces and side dishes, and the bread was fresh and warm. There wasn't a thing we wouldn't order again! They had a respectable wine list with a range of varietals and prices. The only hiccup is that the fries were not ready when the entrees came out; mistiming on someone's part in the kitchen. They showed up mid-meal. The only complaint and detractor from the whole evening was the commercial butter packets, wrapped in foil and solidly cold in a small dish. It was akin to something you'd see at IHOP or another chain of mediocre food. Any proper French restaurant should have proper butter and at the proper temperature. But the butter won't keep us from returning!
Bistrot Lepic serves delicious French food in a charming ambiance with warm service. A great place if you want to have a relaxed conversation with friends.
The service and the food was excellent. I have been several times, and have never been disappointed.
A great find. Would love to try wine bar w music. Food traditional French and delicipus
Three of us had dinner. Good French food, but soft-shell crabs are not French it would seem
Nice wine by the glass at decent prices
Looking for a nice spot for a final dinner before returning home from my 50th college reunion weekend. Saw the description and the reviews, and made an early reservation. Sorry folks, it didn’t meet our hopes; the Bistro Lepic team made our hopes pale compared to the reality.
Ted at the upstairs wine bar was a true pleasure to talk with, as were other patrons-almost forgot about dinner reservation downstairs. Glad we didn’t. Started with a beautiful salad and the gazpacho special, then proceeded to the filet mignon and the tournedos entrees (wonderful accompanying vegetables). We finished with beignets and a rhubarb tart. Each dish was superb in itself, prepared to perfection and presented beautifully.
Adding immensely to our evening were the dining room staff: each was knowledgeable of the menu and the ingredients in each dish, unhurried in discussing the menu, and properly solicitous to ensure our experience was wonderful. Kudos to the chef as well for his care and skills.
Almost as much as the museums and the history inherent in Washington (with a short detour around 1600 Pa. Avenue; everything can’t be wonderful), our discovery of Bistro Lepic and its staff will draw us back to another visit much sooner than we anticipated when we arrived.
Thanks for a wonderful evening.
Our waiter was most personable and helpful. Due to. Party in the main dining room, we were seated upstairs in the back dining room. Very Bohemian and enjoyable.
Dinner was delicious and being that our guests are folks in the culinary arts domain, we were delighted that they truly enjoyed dinner!
In addition to being one of the best French restaurants in DC, this time my guest and I were seated in the rear, away from the central large table with several folks...it was a much quieter and therefore more enjoyable time to talk and socialize. In addition the food and service were impeccable. Thank you.
Wonderful classic French cuisine in an intimate setting.
We have been to Bistrot Lepic enough times in the past to know how good it can be. Our most recent experience, however, was a departure in terms of service and ambiance. We were seated at a back table near the bar where it was very noisy, and it was at least 10 minutes before a server took our drink order. Another ten minutes before we got our drinks. We were entertaining out of town guests and had to make excuses for our choice of dinner venue. Not what we had wished for.
Excellent as always!! We love the food and the ambience.
We all absolutely loved everything about our visit. The food was amazing from the app, to the entree, and the desert. The staff was superb. We all highly recommend this restaurant.
Amazing dining experience. Every item that we ordered (5 entrees/2 appetizers) was delicious! Highly recommend the beef medallions. Presentation was excellent. Service was outstanding and friendly. Can't wait to go back!
The food was MARVELOUS. It was the best meal we've had in years BUT a table of 5 came in next to us toward the end of the evening. One of the women was unbearable loud which prompted us to leave without coffee and dessert.
We have been going for decades! ALWAYS an excellent dining experience!
Very nice place, quiet with good food and unobtrusive but attentive service. Reasonably priced - dinner for three with wine was about $200.
Delicious, well-prepared food. Lovely service, thank you.
Our favorite French restaurant in DC; always with great food and service. We selected it because we had an out of town guest and wanted a place where we could hear each other speak. It's a lost quality amongst restaurants these days.
Been there many times. The food is always terrific and service attentive. Just a wonderful place for any occasion. Highly recommend
Our favorite French restaurant in DC and on the east coast.
Always consistently superb! I have gone here for years and I have never been disappointed.
Birthday for a friend.
Always enjoy an evening at Bistrot Lepic! Dinner excellent!
Outstanding salmon with potato crust. Nice, quiet little table upstairs. Good for conversation. Nice service.
Delicious food, great service and the 6 of us could hear each other..outstanding!
Warm atmosphere and lighting like in France, good wines, especially at happy hours 😀
A small band was playing softly, you could either listen to music or talk with no need to speak loud.
Cosy, consistently excellent kitchen, neighborhood gem.
This place is always great. It has both a neighborhood and world-class feel. The service is excellent and the food consistently very good. We love it!
One of my favorite restaurants. It's small, relatively quiet, genuine French cafe feel. Food is terrific as well.
Went twice in three days. Sat upstairs where a jazz combo played each night. Noisy, cheerful, happy. Great vibe. Wonderful bistro food, friendly service. Fun place.
We both had a lovely dinner. I was especially fond of the salad that had the freshest greens in town.
The bread they serve by the slice is excellent.
Always a special treat to enjoy this hideaway that takes you back to France!
We have dined at Bistrot Lepic for many years and always been delighted with the food, staff and drinks.
I am a regular to Bistrot Lepic. They usually have outstanding food, but I will not recommend the sea bass. I literally had to wipe the oil from the fish.
As much as I like the restaurant, they have to change the way they process reservations. It is borderline annoying. You need to give them in advance your credit card number, being warned that they will charge you if you don't show up. If it was not enough, they call you again to make sure that you will come. What's next, a drop of blood?
Prices have been up quite alarmingly, but I guess it is the same everywhere else. Around $180 for two people is a bit overpriced. When the food is good, it's not a problem. This time, it was.
This has been my favorite restaurant for over a year now. I never get tired of being there or anything on the menu. Menu changes a lot but there is a grand line up of specialties you can pretty much count on. Great brunch too!
