It was a very quiet evening and a few things on the menu were unavailable but they offered us a few things complimentary to make up for that. The service was excellent and a fantastic wine was recommended. The food was really great and we enjoyed everything we had. As s bonus it was quiet and we were able to talk and linger. Highly recommend Bistrot Leo.

Hotel restaurants need to be great in NYC, but the competition on Thompson Street is pretty severe. A block around Bistrot Leo are several fun and outstanding restaurants. Sure no-one like to pay for bread and butter but the 4 dollar baguette and butter are delicious. The menu is standard brasserie stuff pretty well executed, but the prices are a little higher than the food might merit. A roasted cauliflower sitting in melted brie is tasty, but as a $21 appetizer it should be eye-rollingly scrumptious. Paying 18 bucks for a cocktail is the new NYC norm but really...

However, sitting out front on the outdoor patio on a gentle August evening it is hard to complain. The service was uniformly conscientious and the ingredients were of good quality and well handled. Little more imagination and a little rethinking of the pricing would make this a perfect place for a casual dinner.

This place was sadly just meh. My deviled eggs were too salty and the risotto was undercooked and not exactly all that tasty. Restaurant week is a chance to try places at a discount in hopes you’ll return for a full price meal...and we often have. This isn’t one of the places I’ll be going back to.

We went for restaurant week and it was great. Everything we tried was delicious and the portions were large. The restaurant week menu had a nice array of options, we were just a little disappointed that the menu was different than what was offered on the restaurant week website. Overall, great place

I don't understand any of the negative reviews about this place. Food is great, service was great except for one hiccup which was attended to immediately amid multiple apologies. The front room that one reviewer likened to Siberia is a very nice room and about equal in size to the other one. I'd recommend it to anyone.

For a supposed nice place to dine, I expected a lot better. For instance , I expected the server to check on us ONE time. This did not happen. The food was mediocre at best and there was nothing special whatsoever about our time there. I will never be going back there. The service was awful and I will writing this on yelp as well to warn other potential diners. Save your money.

Very nice French Restaurant Week menu. Had figs & feta cheese wrapped in prosciutto as an appetizer, steak au poivre as a main ($8-supplement, but worth it) & chocolate cremeaux for dessert

Everything was good and we had no complaints except there was something missing: nothing was really special! We went there during the French Bastille restaurant week and took advantage of the prix fixe menu and ordered some a la carte items as well. Shrimps were tasty and we ate all 4 of them... The steak was tasty but presentation was dull: no French bistro drama... The salad was not very special but the duck liver pate was very good. They told us that the creme brûlée was sold out, however, we still got one order which was a bit strange but good. Drinks are on the expensive side but not unusual for NYC standards and service was friendly. If this restaurant was in Paris it will probably not survive, but it is not and we had a pleasant dinner celebrating my wife’s birthday. Next time we’ll visit a real bistro(t).

Well I went there with high expectations which were quickly dashed when I was in the restaurant. My appetizer was absolutely divine. I had the Medjool dates with goat cheese, duck proscuitto, chive, lemon. While eating my appetizer they were taking inventory of what was in the refrigerator and filling up the ice buckets, items that should have been addressed before the restaurant opened. The seats are absolutely filthy. I didn't see the grilled eggplant puree, sun dried tomato, roasted summer squash, or lemon beurre noisette, I got branzino and an arugula salad. In addition, one of the waiters had his pants down below his behind and their napkins left lint all over my black pants. What a disappointment!

elegant dining room and food. the branzino was first rate, the salmon a bit overdone,
the shrimps a la plancha not enough garlic for my taste but generally well done
and the lavender creme brulee was melt in your mouth excellent.
When we arrived and I wanted to confirm the rules of French Restaurant Week that one of our options was two plates and a glass of wine, the manager came over and said they did not adhere to that part of the rules, but he graciously offered to let us have the two plates + glass of wine option anyway.
in general, not dramatic food, but elegant dishes well prepared. portions were sizeable too.

Made reservation through Open Table, but BL never confirmed. Had to call them to find out if we're on. Looks like a beautiful restaurant but seated outside the dining room. Food was so-so, Restaurant Week desserts - creme brulee and chocolate cremoux were fantastic. Charged $20 for a glass of wine, third one was refrigerated. The following day the restaurant emailed to say that we cancelled a 10:30 a.m. reservation. I called to complain to a barely listening hostess. BL corrected mistake and got our points but will never come back.

Loved the vibe, good service, but the food left a lot to be desired. Was with a party of 5 so I got to try a handful of dishes. The tartare and mille feuille were delicious, as was the cauliflower and the chicken, but the steak frites was average and the fagotini was sadly underwhelming (especially given the presentation). Great place to grab a drink and an appetizer, but plenty of superior French food at the same/a better price in the city.

The food was very good. The service was atrocious. They have a area near the entrance where they seat all parties of 2, and then a main dining area down a hall from there. Most of the servers focused on the main dining room and ignored the front area. For example: our waitress gave us a wine menu and never returned to get our order, so we just asked someone else for our wine. We had to resort to flagging anyone walking by to get any service at all; the front area is not anyone’s priority. There are no tables for 2 in the back area, so a party of 2 will always be sat in the no service couples ghettto. We loved the food, but would never eat there again.

Wanted to find a nice Sunday brunch place to head to with friends, Bistrot Leo fit the bill, especially with their Restaurant Week deal going on. The mushroom soup of the day most of us choose was delicious, as was the steak frites, croque madames, and the mealball sandwich one of my friends chose. For the croque madame I had, it was the right amount of cheese to bread, and even salad to meal ratio portion to fill me for the rest of the day (if one wanted to eat sensibly). The steak frites said friends had were the right temperature too, and of course, delicious. The red wine that was suggested also paired well. Not too bitter, but also not overtly sweet either. It was just right!

Separately we even picked up a small charcuterie order to share as we waited, and that too was pretty good. Would definitely bring in friends again for breakfast/brunch time (ideal to make reservations but not necessary as there was plenty of tables available).

Overall, the food was mediocre. The mussel appetizer was more flavorful than our steak frites entree. It was dry for a medium and medium rare. Service was in attentive . No attention was given to us when we told them we we were done with our appetizer plates. They paid more attention to the tables next us with occasional follow ups. Took them at least 20 min to serve us our entree even though we were had occasionally tried getting attention. One good to at about to say about this place is the beautiful and cutesy decore styled here. Other than that I will not recommend this restaurant.

First put-off was that the restaurant has a “Grade Pending “ evaluation from the Health Department, apparently, according to the server, because they just changed from an Italian restaurant to French and the Health Department needs to visit. The second put-off was the portion size. I don’t like to leave a restaurant hungry after a Main course and a few spears of lettuce, two tiny potatoes, a few pieces of asparagus and a matchbook sized portion of lobster in their Salad Nicoise for $28 leave me feeling ripped off and definitely still hungry. Oh, of course the place was pretty but the main event is the food and they didn’t make the cut on that score

The food here it was absolutely fantastic. I had the whole branzino which tasted like it was poached in butter. It was extraordinary! My only criticism is that they charge you four dollars for a few slices of baguette and butter. I can understand not wanting to waste bread in a day and age where people vilify and demonize every carbohydrate known to man. So just offer it upon asking. To charge four dollars for it is highway robbery.
