About Bistrot La Minette
Bistrot La Minette is the realization of Chef Peter Woolsey's dream that began a decade ago during his earliest days studying in France: to create a restaurant that would share his love of the authentic bistrot experience with his fellow Philadelphians.Chef Peter pays great respect to the traditional dishes that he creates and honors the classical French methods required to achieve unparalleled bistrot cuisine. Both savory and pastry menus are ever evolving to reflect the seasons, the availability of the best ingredients and the inspiration of the chef. They are drawn from the various regions of France and the multitude of delicacies that each has to offer. The service is both efficient and warm, rooted in a foundation of hospitality and caring for our guests.
Our goal is for Bistrot La Minette to be accessible to all guests that enjoy superb food and wine, and the company of their companions: hoping to evoke their best memories-or dreams-of traditional French bistrot dining.

I realized I actually was at Bistrot La Minette when it first opened in 2008. I cannot believe I did not return since. Overall it was an outstanding dining experience. Very friendly staff, not overly polite or awkward, food was really excellent and the atmosphere and decor is quite beautiful - the pictures display it - the long bankquette seating is dramatic & warm and social but at the same time intimate. Even the bathrooms are attractive. Beautiful place, it reminds me of a little bit of Le Polidor in Paris.

The pastries and desserts were OUT OF THIS WORLD and the service was extraordinary. The staff always made sure our water glasses were full and they were so welcoming! Best service I ever got in a $$$$ restaurant.
They gave us complimentary cheese puffs to start which I can only describe as Cheese-its on steroids. The appetizers were amazing, both escargot and foie gras pate were phenomenal. The escargot was heavy on the garlic, so be forewarned if you don't enjoy garlic. They did not skimp on the foie gras pate at all despite being restaurant week and the bread that accompanied the pate was heavenly.
The roasted chicken was a bit dry but if you dip it in the truffle sauce, it absolutely tasted wonderful! The duck confit stew was wonderful and so juicy. While the entrees themselves were good, the desserts stole the show.
We couldn't help ourselves and got 3 desserts to share. The Millefeuille is an organsm in your mouth. It is what all Napoleans desire to be when they grow up in the kitchen. The gateau mousse au chocolat (chocolate cake) was amazing - in fact, pictures of this cake online is what got us interested in this restaurant in the first place. The creme caramel (caramel custard - although there was more caramel than custard, which I didn't mind as I have the largest sweet tooth, hence the 3 desserts) was good but it was the crust of the tart that blew our minds.
Now if only I was rich enough to hire the pastry chef as a personal chef...
Nice ambiance, decor, music, full house. Menu was very diverse, drinks/wine menu even better. Was looking forward to a nice meal, but while I enjoyed my trout, wife's meal disappointed. Gnocchi dish was bland and seemed overcooked, and dessert (maybe their signature one) was not crisp...was hard.
A very reliable, very good French restaurant with excellent service. It was restaurant week and every table was filled (even on a Monday night) but there was no sacrifice in the usual high quality. Everyone was having a good time. We compared dishes enthusiastically with the strangers at adjacent tables. The sound level was a bit higher than usual but you could still conduct a conversation without shouting. Bistros La Minette is always a satisfying dining experience.
As I have said before, this is a very good restaurant--it is probably the best French bistro in town. But on this visit, they proved themselves much more--they proved themselves to be a really class act. It was restaurant week. We showed up at 6:25 for a 6:30 reservation, but we were not seated until almost 7:20. Many places would have said tough. Not these guys. The bartender--Josh, a great guy--started pouring wine, and it was quite clear that the wine was on the house--we may have had the equivalent of two bottles. We were seated--we knew the server from previous visits--and we were excellently served, but then free side dishes and free desserts came our way. In other words, here is a restaurant that knows stuff happens, but that it is not the customer who should suffer. They are quite simply THE BEST!
Excellent food preparation. Good portions. The trout is superb and has three filets. The cassoulet rich and substantial. Wonderful desserts.
The waiter we had we a little oddly pretentious made all the more comical by his lack of French and unfamiliarity with correct pronunciation. But a nice guy overall.
This restaurant has a wonderful casual elegance about it. The food was excellent - had the foie gras appetizer which was amazing and others had mushroom soup, fish, steak. All were very happy. The staff was terrific - at every level - hostess, bar tender, waiter. I don't usually write reviews, but I wanted to give a special thanks to the manager who noted that we had waited for a table (even though we happily agreed to wait to get a "nicer" table than the one that was already ready for us) and offered us complimentary deserts. We would have been happy without this, but very impressed with how high the level of quality was overall.
Love this restaurant, inventive french cuisine, excellent service, nice wine list. Visit this place a few times during the year but love the fact that they do a very good new years eve special a la carte menu. No over price pre-fixe, all you can drink offering. The chef always has nice specials in addition to the regular menu, baked in house french baguettes, fresh salads, delicious snails, pork cheeks were tender and delicious and the lobster/scallop special was outstanding.
I have been to Bistrot La Minette few times before, I always thought that the food was over priced but decent. I was there for New Years eve dinner and I must say the only good things were the champagne and the baguette. The rest of the food was overly fat - the amount of butter and whatever other fat they used were EXCESSIVELY!!! I understand that the French are famous for their extra rich dishes but not to the point of making people sick. I felt horribly because my guests suggested another restaurant and I push to go to Bistrot La Minette, and we all felt sick afterwards. Bistrot La Minette - vous ne me verrez pas bientôt (you will not see me anytime soon).
Christmas eve dinner did not disappoint. Love the food, staff and ambience. Wine pairings fantastic. Would have given them a 5 star rating for Service if not for the fact that with a tasting menu and wine pairings, the key is the timely delivery of each course and pairing. Everything went well up until the main course. We waited quite a long time for it to be served. Someone on the staff did advise us and apologize as we waited and waited. Since we were not in any particular rush, we told him we didn't mind the very obvious pregnant pause. Having said that, they didn't do anything to make amends for it nor did our server apologize as she finally served the meal.
