About this restaurant

Bistrot Cinq opened its doors on November 16, 2007. It’s the vision of renowned American Chef, Robbin Haas. Inspired by the bistros he visited during his trips to France, Robbin created the atmosphere of a typical “French Bistrot” in the heart of Antigua, Guatemala. The Bistrot is a cozy restaurant, where you can kick back and relax, knowing we’ll do everything we can to take good care of you and help you feel at home. We’re a place full of stories, joy and a lot of life, where the beauty of Antigua, Guatemala is mixed with the inspiring charm of Paris.

Misleading and Overpriced – Tourist Trap Disguised as a French Bistro We dined at this so-called French bistro, only to discover upon arrival that there’s nothing truly French about it. The menu was clearly thrown together by someone who doesn’t speak French — full of mistakes and awkward translations. What really shocked us was the blatant double pricing. Prices listed on OpenTable were significantly lower than what we were charged on the physical menu. Burger listed at 85? Charged 110. Mac & cheese listed at 65? Charged 160. Steak frites: 155 online, 205 in person. Same dish, different menu, different price. We wouldn’t even have noticed if the table next to us — also tourists, also given the inflated English menu — hadn’t told us. We didn’t ask; they brought it up, just as shocked and frustrated. They even sent their food back, which turned out to be just as bad as ours. We avoided the seafood to play it safe and ordered a steak with béarnaise sauce. The sauce was ice-cold, straight from the fridge. The fries were greasy and heavy. The cheese plate was a sad selection of supermarket-quality cubes with no flavor or origin. Yes, we were staying at the 5-star Hotel Santo Domingo next door and yes, we both work and can afford it — but we still lost two hours in a completely empty restaurant that serves overpriced food with fake charm and zero authenticity. Avoid this place. It’s nothing but a tourist trap.. You Will also notice that most reviews are from Guatemala and from peoples that never travelled and post anything outside of Guatemala..quite strange .. ..

Bistro Cinq delivers a remarkable dining experience that would feel right at home in a high-end bistro in Chicago or New York. Every dish we tried was exceptional, showcasing both culinary expertise and thoughtful presentation. I ordered the duck l’orange, and it was superb—tender, flavorful, and perfectly complemented by a rich orange sauce. Well-prepared duck can be hard to find, but this dish exceeded expectations. My wife had the vegetarian lasagna, which was not only delicious but beautifully presented—served on its side, likely rolled before plating. She particularly appreciated this unique touch. Though it was never mentioned, I am certain the pasta was made fresh—the texture and flavor were simply too good for it to be anything else. We also shared the onion soup, which was deeply flavorful and perfectly executed. The cocktails were excellent, with the Aperol Spritz being particularly refreshing—a perfect complement to the meal. For English speakers, the language barrier can be a small challenge, but that’s part of the adventure. If you came to Guatemala expecting everything to be easy, you may be in the wrong place—but if you embrace the experience, Bistro Cinq offers a warm and welcoming respite with outstanding food. Highly recommended—this is a spot worth seeking out.

When a restaurant has high prices and totes itself as French, you expect a nice meal. While the food was ok, the meal lacked vegetables and the service was sub par. It felt like the staff lost their desire to serve. This is definitely a restaurant bound to close. It’s seen better days.

Our waiter Oscar made sure that all of us had a great time. He was gracious enough to cut out my son’s drawing on the table paper. We had a great time.
