Bistro Vendome Ratings and Reviews
Our first visit. Ambience was charming, and our server was outstanding - very personable, friendly, and attentive, without hovering. I had the mussels in white wine broth, which were quite tasty. My wife had the Croque Monsieur - delicious, but very rich.
We were in for brunch, but are now looking forward to having dinner there.
My 10 y.o. daughter and I decided to have a French dining adventure before going to the theater. We were not disappointed. The food was fabulous! I mentioned that I had an allergy to dairy and the chef sent out a special vegan beet amuse-bouche that was delightful. The crepe Vendome, French onion soup, butter lettuce salad, scallops and monkfish special were wonderful. Service was attentive and friendly.
Fabulous and very authentic French restaurant. The menu is reminiscent of eating in France, simple and delicious. We enjoyed a lovely brunch with friends from out of town and they really enjoyed the experience -- it's a great location and super option for a scrumptious Sunday brunch or lovely dinner!
This used to be our favorite place for brunch but the last few times we went in they were out of everything. What we did order was horrible. Not one person at our table enjoyed the food. Our waiter did not really know what he was doing. We had to listen to the waitress at the next table explain the specials. I don't think we will be going back.
We have to this Bistro a number of times! This time we met friends prior to the theater.
After confirming my reservation via text, I received a telephone call and six other texts asking for confirmation. (not a big deal but bothersome).
We were the fourth group of four seated. Our table was located in a high traffic area but we dealt with it! Our server (Shenna) was very friendly. Three of us ordered the escargo. They were delicious yet on the cold side. After hearing about how tasty the Braised Beef, I ordered. My wife also had a recommended dish. When my dish arrived it looked and smelled tasteful. However, it was extremely salty. I called Sheena and in a very low tone, I mentioned that my dish was very-very salty. Her first response was "It's braised, so it's going to be salty (why didn't she tell me that when I was ordering). She must have seen my expression of displeasure and quickly stated "I'll tell the Chef" Never heard about the Chef's feedback! A few minutes later, my wife ws whispering to Shenna. She had the same comment. My wife had ordered a totally different dish!
We also felt rushed. I noticed from another reviewer that they also felt rushed. It gave us the impression they were looking for turnover and not about the customers dining experience.
Bistro Vendome is our first choice before we see a play at the DCPA. Parking in the structure at 5:45 assures us a good parking spot. I had the trout which was amazing, accompanied by a medley of sunchokes and chorizo. My husband loved the boullabaisse. We also shared a special salad which was complex and delicious with fried goat cheese and fig compote. /we devoured the mini french bread load too! Overall, we were so pleased with our experience. Service is fast, friendly and efficient with plenty of time to spare to get to the theater on time with our 6 PM Bistro reservation.
We have eaten at Bistro Vendome many times, including New Year's Eve, and have previously been very pleased. Not so on New Year's 2017. Even understanding that it was New Year's Eve and the restaurant wants to turn tops, it was a major disappointment. Our table [for 4] was not large enough for the food & drinks. That did not stop the servers from bringing the next course, in spite of our requests to slow down the service and allow us to enjoy our drinks and appetizers before the main course was dumped on us. My date had to grab her unfinished plate back from the server - twice. The food had obviously had to endure a heat lamp because of our lack of speed eating. The escargot was rubbery, as were the flavor-free mussels. The 'eggnog' ice cream, served before we finished the entree, was also without flavor.
I have no doubt that Bistro Vendome can do better so we shall return in the future. Just not on New Year's Eve.
Oh my goodness, I almost don’t want to leave this review lest everyone find out about this special place. We went for the first time on New Year’s Eve. The food was outstanding, absolutely creative and special and delicious. The room was quaint and charming. We will definitely be back.
Our 10th New Year's Eve dinner at Bistro Vendome, and great as always! Our server was wonderful and helped us decide what to order. We shared the mussels and frites (still the best anywhere!), perfectly cooked trout, and fabulous brussel sprouts. The manager came to our table, and when we told her that dinner there is our New Year's Eve tradition, she comp'd our cocktails. So nice! If you want a delicious meal in a charming atmosphere, this is the place!
The menu was somewhat limited but reasonably priced for LoDo. Three of the four of us were very pleased with the food. Their escargot were delicious and a special treat since you don't often see them on the menu. The portion of trout served was quite large, and the steak frittes with Roquefort got rave reviews. The Bouillabaisse and the Malfatti Citrouille (pumpkin dumplings) were so-so. The gin selections were very limited, but the well brand (Barrett's) was adequate. Wine by the glass was on the pricey side. The tables are very close together, so it was difficult to feel out of everyone's way. Overall, it was a lovely evening with dear friends.
The most popular dish is a beef bourginon and it was very good. After that, for someone that does not like cream dishes, there were not many choices. Even a nice roasted chicken would be great but dishes were very heavy and wines were expensive. I love French food so it was really a nice setting and menu, but again, only if you love creamy heavy dishes.
Beautifully decorated French restaurant. The charm hits you the moment you see the courtyard or enter through the red draped doors. I'm disappointed to say that's where it stops.
The wait staff is very friendly & attentive but to the point of annoyance. All six of us felt rushed throughout the night.
The quail was a bit dry and lacked flavor. No taste of maple on that dish anywhere and the parsnips were hard. Nobody wished for seconds on the escargot. The beef, although good, was lost by itself with only a small portion of puree and mushrooms.
The hit of the night was the pommes frites with champagne gastrique and herbs. An order or two of these and a bottle of red wine is really all one needs. The gastrique was very sticky and simply wiping your hands on the napkin did not resolve the issue. Most of us dunked our hands or napkins in water leaving us with sticky wet napkins that had to be placed on our dress pants.
The baguette was delicious as was the butter although salty. The meals in general were salty. The Marche salad was overly salted. My palate couldn't handle another salty beet.
The wait staff was always in between two of us pouring water, wine, or taking plates that were not finished. This became an annoyance to the point that I could not relax and felt I had to eat quickly so they wouldn't take anything that had been sitting on the table more than 5 minutes.
No spoons provided for the Amuse Bouche (drinkable but thick) and it's difficult to cut through firm pears (with the macarons dessert) WITH a spoon (forks & knives taken). A bit awkward sharing 2 ramekins (with the pommes frites) between 6 people. Spoon?
The creme brulee was spot on. The chocolate bouchons were a hit. The macarons were plentiful and the pears complimented them nicely. The profiteroles were ok. The French press coffee was fantastic! I won't be dropping serious coin at this place again. You don't get what you pay for, charm or no charm.
Although there is nothing particularly seasonal about the menu or decor, a December visit to Bistro Vendome has become a tradition for us. I suppose the only 'seasonal' aspect was the result of having a table by the window which allowed us to see the lights in the courtyard against the freshly fallen snow. The food, as always, was excellent. The mussels were tender and flavorful. The use of pistachio butter as a base for the Salade du Marché was particularly tasty. Our main courses of monkfish and Duck à l'orange were perfectly prepared, and the Chocolate Bouchons we shared for dessert were a special treat. As in years past, they have given us ample reason to continue our little tradition.
The service was outstanding. Though the young man that waited on us had 2 other tables, I got the sense that we were his only customers. Proactive, knowledgeable about the food choices, and well-mannered.
The food was great, especially the deserts. The dining room is a bit small; would like to try it in the summertime when I can sample the outdoor seating.
Very pricey but I thought it was worth it considering the type of food and what we purchased.
