Bistro Toulouse Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is a hidden charm, located in an assuming shopping plaza in Mount Pleasant. I had the brisket with homemade pasta and root vegetables and my husband had the roasted chicken with pureed potatoes and vegetable. You might think these are "simple" meals to be on a menu in a restaurant; rest assured they were perfectly prepared and seasoned. This is true authentic French cooking that you would find in a small bistro in France. Make sure you order the soufflé for dessert! We enjoyed impeccable service from beginning to end, including having the owner checking in with us to see if our food was to our liking. We will definitely return! (And the parking is free and plentiful right at the front door...)
This was our second time at this restaurant, the first being for an anniversary and the this one for a business trip. We would be regular customers here but we live 70 miles from Charleston.
This is just a great place for real French food and a good French Bistro environment. We highly recommend it.
Great neighborhood gem! We had the steak tartare and salad for appitizers. So wonderful! Mussels and casolet were faboulous!! Needs a little more atmoshpere though! We were in a booth but the back where most of the tables were was depressing. i would not want to be seated there. Overall execellent experience. Will be back.
There are many great restaurants in Charleston and this is a really good choice. The food is excellent, the prices are reasonable compared with some Charleston restaurants, and the service is tops.
Had the onion soup and duck. Loved both!
Don’t be turned off by the strip mall location.
This is our 4th or 5th visit and each time we are reminded about the high quality of food and service that we receive. We also brought some friends who have not been and they echoed the same comments. However, I must mention the food delivery was a little slow this time, not a big deal but was the second time it has happened. Of course, good wine and conversation filled the void nicely.
We had the Sunday brunch and I ordered the pork hash with eggs and potatoes which was very good but didn't particularly care for the gummy taste of the potatoes. Always love the napkins that are folded in the image of a gentlemen's jacket...Cool!!
Thanks..see you next time!
We had a lovely evening. The food was very good. I had the mussels. They were superb and a great value. The server was friendly and efficient. We liked the feeling of the restaurant. The bar area was loud but we had no problems with noise where we were sitting. Nice seeing people having a good time eating good food.
Every single bite of my croque madame made me pause with pleasure. The entire experience was absolutely perfect. I'm not sure if it was the grapefruit Mimosa or what , but I actually used the words "religious experience" to describe my reaction to my table mate ! The lemony vinaigrette on the salad that came with the sandwich complemented it perfectly. True culinary heaven - really!!!
This was only my second time at Bistro Toulouse, but it was as good as the first time! I've recommended it to others and given gift cards as well. Both times I've gotten the fresh catch of the day. It was delicious! OUr table had the steak-frites, tile fish, wreck fish, and pork chop - everyone loved their meal! We also tried the chocolate soufflé for dessert (greta!), chocolate mousse (yummy), and lavender crème brulee (unanimous - would rather have regular w/o lavender). Our server was professional and knowledgeable and also had a great sense of humor! Don't let the strip mall setting keep you from trying this "neighborhood gem."
Our family of 7 had a nice Sunday Brunch after Church at Bistro Toulouse. Anne came promptly to take our orders and gave excellent, professional, friendly service. Our grandkids never had Eggs Benedict but loved them and said this is their favorite new dish! Eggs are consistently cooked to perfection and Hollandaise Sauce is rich and delicious. Our son enjoyed the Steak dish with a side of nice, meaty bacon (not much fat). The Croque Monsieur is very good as well. We have Sunday Brunch often at Bistro Toulouse and will be back very soon.
The food is beautifully prepared and served. The menu features fresh, flavorful, richly textured dishes. The wine list is also excellent. The staff is very knowledgeable and service is perfectly paced. Our entrees were served wonderfully hot from the oven! We had a lovely evening at Bistro Toulouse and will highly recommend it to friends and family.
Great neighborhood location in a strip mall, but much better than what you would expect in a strip mall. Expertly prepared food in the French cuisine genre, good variety of choices, and friendly neighborhood atmosphere. A bit on the pricey side, but well worth the overall value. Service was efficient, relaxed and not hurried. It was our second time there, and we plan a return trip next year.
Excellent food as always. We ordered off the Restaurant Week menu and our dinner did not disappoint. We opted for the wine pairing and enjoyed interesting choices that went very well with our food. Our server was attentive and helpful. The only negative thing I have to say is that the tables are very close together and we were seated uncomfortably close to a table of 4 middle-aged women who were obnoxiously loud. They were so disruptive we should have asked to be re-seated and I now regret not doing so.
Bistro Toulouse providws the "real deal" in country french dining. Casual, unpretentious and delicious food. If you are not familiar with french cooking, try this. If you are, you will not be disappointed. Handcrafted cocktails and a well thought out wine list to compliment the menu make this a great dinner experience.
Bistro Toulouse is always consistent as a great Brunch Spot with perfectly prepared Eggs Benedict (love the Hollandaise!) and excellent service. Jason and the Bartender gave us very attentive and friendly service. We enjoy Brunch after church many Sundays at Bistro Toulouse.
The server seemed harried and was very slow in getting drinks to the table. At re end of the meal, we waited at least thirty minutes for the bill.
All of the food was very good with the exception of the escargots, which suffered from a strange preparation. We've had the escargots here before and they were fine.
We've eaten here before and will return, but this was not up to our usual experience.
Our first visit. We had heard/read a lot of good reviews so we decided to try it. Our experience was somewhat influenced by restaurant week....not necessarily the best time to try a restaurant the first time. Nevertheless, our dinner was quite good, and certainly tasty enough to draw us back for another visit. My wife had the mushroom soup, superb. The onion soup I ordered was very good, as expected in a French bistro. For entrees, my hanger steak was done exactly to order and was very good, well seasoned but perhaps a little overpriced at $26. The accompanying frites were fresh and perfectly fried. My wife's coq au vin was a bit bland. I don't think it is a regular menu item. Our server was excellent, informed and attentive without being intrusive. We will head back to try the mussels, a house specialty, and other dishes. We would recommend this restaurant as a pretty good value on the greater Charleston dining scenes.
