A very nice restaurant with an interesting menu including Indian food that was priced very reasonably. We experienced very good service with no problems.
Usual restaurant closed. Bedlam. Queue outside temporary restaurant snaked back to reception (>20 people 🙁). No one serving, general disgruntlement, never got near a table - went to a much nicer, quieter place down the road ... and won’t return.
Our waiter was adorable! Seeing that we had two young teens, he brought them "kid champagne" when we had wine. He was helpful with the menu as one had tree nut allergies. It was a super experience.
Tried the clever bento box which offers excellent value and variety for lunch. Being owned by Taj Hotels the Indian food was authentic and delicious. Service was rushed and stressed but came together.
Thank you for your valuable feedback and observations. We will take all of them on board. Looking forward to welcoming you back soon.
The food was wonderful and service was exceptional! Our server was the best and she made everything delightful!
Thank you for visiting us and your words of kindness! Looking forward to welcoming you back soon!
Service was friendly, but very slow
Food was okay, nothing to write home about
Ambiance was pleasant
Price for Christmas Day dinner was okay
Would not come back, but it was an ok dining experience
Quiet and calm
Somewhat tucked away, within either the Tag Hotel or St James's, lies this smart upmarket dining venue. The service was slick and professional. The food was excellent (we opted for the set lunch menu of 2 or 3 courses), with a sensible limited choice. The presentation was excellent. I have been to Bistro 51 now +/- 8 times ; this visit saw the standards rising ever higher.
Well done.
I hosted a business meal at Bistro 51 with a number of clients from Sweden. The menu had a mixture of traditional British foods, curry's and great grill selection, so all tastes were met. Fantastic service too.
My duck was very tasty and the waiter was very tentative to me and my woman and did a love gesture doing a written decoration wishing her happy birthday on the desert
Functional. Good food. Good service. Great for a quick catchup in the middle of a busy day.
Somewhat quirky ; white table cloths : smart waiters ; fine menu : and yet the attitude of those serving us was slightly that we got in the way. Rarely a smile : we had to ask for drinks twice, whist being pressed to order the food.
Beware the cost of the drinks, by the way - that is where they make the mark up.
On reading this back it is perhaps a little harsh.
Bzz.
Exceptional food from start to finish, indian gentleman on next table lives locally says food always excellent as it is influenced by Quinlon and every bit as good.Negative was felt like hotel dining room no atmosphere however refurbishment since our last visit a lot better.
Food was very good. We were there for lunch (12.30 on a Friday) and I think we were the only ones there, even when we left at 2pm...
My mother and I ate here after a trip to the theatre and we turned up earlier than expected, however they made us very welcome and fitted us in without a fuss. Excellent meal, would certainly go there again!
I booked a tablel at Bistro 51 for my wife's birthday treat. We travelled from Bristol and were joined by our children, two of whom work in London, and our eldest, who had a day trip from Newcastle to join us for the meal! The travelling was well worth it, as we all had a wonderful time, the food was superb, beautifully presented and the service was excellent. A very memorable meal.
the host and the waitress were kind at all times. the quality of the dishes was outstanding. my daughter had spaguetti carbonara and she said was maybe the best ever. I had the british stew which was exceptional. the desert, the de-constructed lemon pie was amazing. Value/Price is balanced.
I had to finally go to the Bank Restaurant. Do not recommend this restaurant. Suggest it be taken off the OT list
The ribeye steak I ordered was about 3/8 inch thick. It has grill marks but was not seared in the least. It was soft and tasteless. 12% gratuity and 20% vat created a 110 pound meal. So incredibly not worth it. Avoid.
Attentive service, great food and brilliant vodka - what more could you want!
My mother and I both went for the tuna Niçoise salad to start and this was good, well cooked tuna and tasty all round. For mains we had gnocchi which was average and a linguine bolognese which was dreadful. The bolognese arrived as a portion of dry pasta with a portion of greasy tasteless mince on top of it. The staff were helpful and kindly withdrew the main from the bill and offered complimentary coffee. Needless to say a salad and a bowl of pasta/gnocchi is not worth the £24 price tag. The restaurant was cold and lacked atmosphere and although the staff were polite, all bar the manager seemed very inexperienced. Unfortunately not worth a recommendation.
Don't be discouraged by the fact that Bistro 51 is in a hotel! There's so much choice on the menu, that there's something for everyone. We dined there with a group of four, and each of us had something different and all of us enjoyed our meals. The atmosphere is quiet without being stiff. We will definitely try this again!
Took my team there for a post-year end meal and everyone had a great time - the range of food is excellent and its all good; everyone was very pleased with their meal. The chocolate fondue 'reinvented' was very interesting and tasty end to the meal.
We wanted a special experience on Easter after attending Westminster Abbey. This exactly fit the bill. Service and food were wonderful. Price OK for special occasion.
Great service and staff. The food was well presented, tasty and value for money. Unfortunately the location of the restaurant is not great, there isn't anything else to do close by I think if this was in a better location nearer to other bars and attractions you would struggle to get a table
Lovely restaurant with really friendly service. Unusual set menu which was well cooked. Our deal made it really very good value. Only surprise was the long distance to the toilets.
I've eaten here a few times now and always been impressed with the quality of the food. There are a decent selection of dishes (including veggie options) which have an Indian/Thai/Malaysian twist. You can also get the usual British stye food (meat and veg). The 2 for 1 offer with a tastecard means dining here ends up being excellent value for money. Must also add the service here is always excellent- staff are very friendly.
The term Bistro doesn't really do this restaurant justice, its very smart, offering discrete dining in a very welcoming atmosphere. My accomplice and I really enjoyed the food (weekday lunch), which was well presented and executed, good value for money. The portions are easily large enough for a hungry adult. Service was discrete with good timing and anticipation of our needs. They seemed to pull off being professional with a friendly human touch.
Glad I found this restaurant. Good for business lunch, or just catching up with acquaintances etc. No background music....happy days.
at a property show in westminster with a friend on saturday. decided we would have some lunch. had a look on open table and bistro 51 was very close by. it's part of a hotel but if that is not your thing, don't let it put you off. it was quite although there was a large party in another part of the restaurant. very nice restaurant, white table cloths and nice table dressings. went for the open table menu, only 3 choices for each course, we both ordered the same thing, salmon tartare type dish and slightly spiced tandori chicken. both dishes were beautiful especially the salmon, we could have eaten 10 lbs of it! service was polite, friendly and excellent. really enjoyed our lunch and will definitely revisit.
I thought Chef's Special Menu was best Value for Money - £30 for 3 courses so expect to pay around £40 per person including a glass of wine and tip.
Very enjoyable with some interesting menu choices. Recommend the venison dish, and the ravioli special was excellent. Decently priced wines too. Got quite busy soon after we arrived, so happy we turned up when we did.
I was told to try this Bistro on a Valentine weekend away. It was wonderful. The food was delicious and arrived hot. The waiting staff could not do enough. Will be definitely going back on my next London visit.
Was a bit quiet to at the start of the meal, which was surprising for 7pm on Valentines day. Soup was excellent, as was our mains, and the ambience improved as the night went on. Waiters were attentive. Great night.
My family and I went for lunch after a special event at the Palace and it really lived up to expectations. The service was very good - all staff were attentive and the restaurant responded well to our dietary needs, giving advice where necessary. It was a lovely experience and the food was great too - especially the duck.
Bistro 51 offers good food at reasonable prices within the heart of London. It is an ideal restaurant for business lunches. Service is a little on the slow side but overall a good place to eat and offers a good choice of food.
We were a group of 12 having a family lunch to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We had a wonderful time. I had chosen Bistro 51 because of the wonderful reviews on opentable and because the menu seemed to have something for everyone; from previous experience, I knew we would be a difficult party to please as our tastes and preferences are very varied. Bistro 51 certainly lived up to all the wonderful reviews and we all agreed that this was one of the best lunch parties that we had ever had in a restaurant.
The food was wonderful, and beautifully served, the staff were incredibly attentive and met all our needs with grace and charm. We has brought a birthday cake ourselves, which was served beautifully, and even the remnants were divided into three and presented in three boxes for different members to take away.
We were also very pleased to be seated in a separate area of the restaurant, which made for the kind of intimate atmosphere that parties like this need, but is so seldom possible in a restaurant without hiring a private room.
Bravo Bistro 51! We hope to come back again.
We had no idea what to expect when we booked Bistro 51. What a fabulous surprise! Super customer service, lovely dining area and the food was exemplary! Will definitely be recommending and returning.
Food was amazing again and staff very informative and friendly.
Really nice dinner we had on Friday sometimes hotels let you down but not this one for their restaurant.
I have never eaten here before and on a recommendation met an old colleague to catch up. Nice and convenient venue, good service and a lovely feel in the restaurant. The food was very good and the set lunch good value. Excellent roasted garlic soup to start and a delightfully spiced chicken on a bed of spinach and new potatoes. It is on my list of restaurants to visut again.
very strong choice near St James Park. nice decor, comfortable bar, varied menu and very strong food preparation (especially the fish) made for a very enjoyable meal.
