Best French onion soup I’ve had in a long time!
Their Outdoor space was fully enclosed, making me very nervous. They need to open up one side to increase the airflow and make it safer.
Bistro Shirlee has adapted extremely well to the challenges of COVID, from making a pared-down menu even better than the original - we had the French Onion soup (1 each) and shared the mushroom crepe and radicchio salad. We finished it all off with the creme brulee - all was excellent. As usual the cocktail and wine selections are refined and very good. The Calvados Old Fashioned was delicious. The outdoor seating was comfortable on a chilly night due to heaters and breeze-mitigating panels so that we were quite comfortable from a temp and safety perspective. The wait staff was attentive and thoughtful. The information given to guide and inform us on mask protocal was the best we've heard - thoughtful and considerate. We'll be back soon!
The food was excellent, the drinks were excellent as well.
We sat outside and it was lovely, the heater works really well!
Thank you for a fab evening, it's been a while.
Covid safe, great outdoor ambiance. Service was attentive and quick. Chicken liver pate and pickles were a standout, but rest of the food wasn't quite worth the price. Wine and cocktails were great, so I'd recommend as a safe place to meet up for drinks and appetizers.
The plates were small but delicious. Charming bistro and a great date night.
They have a nice back deck and the cocktails are delicious. The menu was very limited. It felt like everything was an appetizer and no main dishes. Perhaps due to COVID but I will likely wait to return until they have entree items back on the menu.
Only had a couple of entrees available.
The food had a strong French influence but the chef felt free to indulge in other styles of seasonings and types of palate nuances. All the food, salad, bread, entry, dessert was of very high quality, not just one outstanding dish.
Brunch & dinner at Bistro Shirlee is one of our faves! Great food (one the Fried Oyster Tartine, Bread Pudding French Toast and Eggs Benedict were all to die for!) and great service! Loved everything & cant wait to go back.
Loved our dinner at Shirlee. The ambience is cozy, yet bright and cheerful. Food excellent, service good as well. Definitely recommend.
I saw Bistro Shirlee after seeing it featured in a Seattle Magazine for “Best Brunch Spots”. The food here tasted good but the portion sizes for the price did not add up. Also it took them over an hour to get us our food and there was barely anyone in the restaurant. Would I return? Maybe, maybe not. The food was good, the atmosphere pretty but the prices, service & portion sizes left me slightly unsatisfied with the experience.
read my last one; this place is always outstanding. the service/cook staff deserves a 200% raise.
After Deep Dive, Barnacle, Whale Wins, Walrus & Carpenter, Bateau and Melusine, Bistro Shirlee did not hit the mark. I am optimistic it was an off night, and we will give her another go. Charming environment. Would recommend with caveats at this point.
It was great ambience and service. Parking is a bit weird and hard to find. But overall, would recommend d for a special night out.
Shirlee was a great spot. We've come here twice now, once for drinks and decided we had to do dinner sometime b/c the ambience and the vibe were great. Excellent service!
The quiche was so light and fluffy - amazing. Great service. Highly recommend.
Bistro Shirlee is such a gem! It is quiet and cozy. The perfect date night spot. The food and wine were as wonderful as expected! I'm sure it won't be as easy to get into once it's discover.
We had a fantastic time here and great food and service! We will be back!
Quality of food and service was not worth the amount of money spent there. Our server was kind but we were barely attended to and there were only two other parties dining there at the time. We never even got refills on our water and had to grab a leftover bottle of water from another table. Server didn't ask us how our food was even when two plates were pretty untouched.
Valentine's Day lunch was great. I had the cheese plate with home made crackers and the fabulous frites and my husband had the croque madam. He did say the salad wasn't great but the sandwich was fantastic. This is one of our go to places in the area and we love it.
Overall, the food was spectacular they just miss the mark on service and need to focus on that a bit. There was a wine tasting going on in the bar with the chef/owner so a lot of attention was being given to that which meant those of us eating dinner at the tables were a little ignored. It took a good ten minutes before anyone even asked us if we wanted something to drink and then it was awkward as two of the four meals came out and we had to wait a few minutes for the other two. Lastly, we ordered a dessert and waited a good twenty minutes before our server finally stopped by and told us the ticket never went in, we told him to forget it. Overall, the food was wonderful. Perhaps if the owner/chef is at her restaurant, it might have been nice if she went around and introduced herself to the tables given so much focus was on her and the bar. I assume that is why our service was less than stellar
Look forward to returning! Great food. Got so loud that I had to yell at my table mates tho!
Great brunch spot - though $9 for a point of local IPA is what I pay for the 6 pack in the supermarket- seems steep
Great food, small portions, high price tag.
Service was horrible and to pay the service charge they know they get, totally didn’t deserve it
They changed my reservation to Sunday without consent and I called to say it was Saturday
Had to sit at bar, when table was ready, server didn’t offer to carry coffee cream and sugar to table, I asked for a tray and she got irritated and said I will carry it!! What the heck is service, never refilled water bottle, asked for refill on coffee and server forgot... had to be reminded. Definitely before service charge was implemented the service was a little better. Totally have ate here several times and after this will go somewhere else
We go here once a week so I am not going to keep writing the same praise every week.
I have eaten here many times for lunch and always find the food and service to be top notch.
Delicious place for brunch. Located just down from U of WA stadium this place was charming with terrific service. We both had the eggs Benedict. Perfectly prepared and hollandaise was nice and lemony, just how I like it.
The food was delicious. We had items from the new January menu; each of us tried a separate dish. Salmon en papillote, duck, and the clam curry. Each one was cooked to perfection, not over-done or under-cooked, and the seasoning was sensitive to the item headlining the dish. We also had a delicious pork paté, and one of our group loved the French onion soup.
Our server was friendly and helpful, and the service was also very prompt, even though it was a busy Saturday night. We had two desserts, liked both of them a lot.
Lovely spot for a celebration.
Charming environment with lots of light. Excellent bistro fare. Another Renee Erickson success!
we went for a lovely Sunday brunch, food great, setting lovely and thoroughly enjoyale
Dinner with favorite friends.
Interesting menu and well prepared food. Of four brunch meals, we had one burnt quiche and a flat second glass of cremant. Overall a very pleasant experience. We’ll be back!
Rene Erickson has done it again! And the bread pudding with creme anglaise returns.😄😄😄😄
Great food. The fried oysters and steak tartar fantastic. The prawns were tasty although I wouldn’t order again. The clams and duck excellent. Service perfect and wine pairing also perfect.
Oysters were to die for and radicchio salad was delicious albeit very small. Happy hour oysters were a dollar each versus $3.50 on the regular menu. Overpriced but very good. Server was knowledgeable and friendly yet the added 20 percent gratuity was also stretching it.
French onion soup was so salty. I didn't enjoy it. The sautéed veggies with an egg, not inspired
Portion sizes are too small for the price. Especially notable with melted blue cheese & hazelnuts. Delicious but barely covered toast for $16? I wonder if the high prices are keeping folks away. It was empty for a Sat brunch.
Shirlee has some wonderful, unique food and great service. I especially liked the salmon. The portions are small and fairly expensive, however. Also the music was annoyingly loud and strange.
